Warm Wishes on Gandhi Jayanti…..www.mumbaihangout.info

Mail from Sam<BR>Samuel ” src=”http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u194/alwayswithudu/gandhiji/gandhijayanti-02.jpg” width=”300″ border=”0″ height=”400″></a></font></div>

Philosophy of Mahatma Gandhi in His Own Words:

I know the path. It is straight and narrow. It is like the edge of a
sword. I rejoice to walk on it. I weep when I slip. God”s word is: “He
who strives never perishes.” I have implicit faith in that promise.
Though, therefore, from my weakness I fail a thousand times, I will not
lose faith, but hope that I shall see the Light when the flesh has been
brought under perfect subjection, as some day it must.
Search for Truth :

I am but a seeker after Truth. I claim to have found a way to it. I claim to be
making a ceaseless effort to find it. But I admit that I have not yet
found it. To find Truth completely is to realize oneself and one”s
destiny, i.e., to become perfect. I am painfully conscious of my
imperfections, and therein lies all the strength I posses, because it
is a rare thing for a man to know his own limitations.

Trust in God :

I am in the world feeling my way to light “amid the encircling gloom”.
I often err and miscalculate My trust is solely in God. And I trust
men only because I trust God. If I had no God to rely upon, I should be
like Timon, a hater of my species.

No Secrecy :

I have no secret methods. I know no diplomacy save that of truth. I have
no weapon but non-violence. I may be unconsciously led astray for a
while, but not for all time. My life has been an open book. I have no secrets and I encourage no secrets.

Guidance :

I claim to have no infallible guidance or inspiration. So far as my
experience goes, the claim to infallibility on the part of a human
being would be untenable, seeing that inspiration too can come only to
one who is free from the action of opposites, and it will be difficult
to judge on a given occasion whether the claim to freedom from pairs of
opposites is justified. The claim to infallibility would thus always be
a most dangerous claim to make. This, however, does not leave us
without any guidance whatsoever. The sum-total of the experience of the
world is available to us and would be for all time to come.

My Work :

I am content with the doing of the task in front of me. I do not worry
about the why and wherefore of things Reason helps us to see that we
should not dabble in things we cannot fathom.

Develop A Clear Vision

September 29th, 2008

Develop A Clear Vision
By: Brian Tracy

The one quality that all leaders have in common is that they have a clear and exciting vision for the future. This is something that only the leader can do. Only the leader can think about the future and plan for the future each day.

Take the Time to Think

Excellent leaders take the time to think through and develop a clear picture of where they want the organization to be in one, three and five years. Leaders have the ability to communicate this vision in such a way that others “buy in” and eventually see the vision as belonging to them.

Motivate People to Give of Their Best

It is the vision of the future possibilities, of what can be, that arouses emotion and motivates people to give of their best. The most powerful vision is always qualitative, aimed at and described in terms of values and mission rather than quantitative, which is described in terms of money and numbers.

Money is Important

Of course, money is important, but the decision and commitment to “be the best in the business” is far more exciting.

 Keep Your Cool

Another key to leadership success is for you to “keep your cool.” A study at Stanford Business School examined the qualities that companies look for in promoting young managers toward senior executive positions, especially the position of  Chief Executive Officer. The study concluded that the two most important qualities required for great success were, first, the ability to put together and function as part of a team. Since all work is ultimately done byteams, and the managers’ output is the output of the team, the ability to select team members, set objectives, delegate responsibility and finally, get the job done, was central to success in management.

Practice is Everything

The second quality required for rapid promotion was found to be the ability to function well under pressure, and especially in a crisis. Keeping your cool in a crisis means to practice patience and self-control under difficult or disappointing circumstances.

People Are Watching

The character and quality of a leader is often demonstrated in these critical moments under fire, when everyone is watching, observing and privately taking notes. As Rudyard Kipling once said, “If you can keep your head when all around you are losing theirs and blaming it on you, then the world is yours and all that’s in it”.

Your job as a leader is to have a clear vision of where you want to go and then to keep your cool when things go wrong, as they surely will.

Action Exercises

Here are two things you can do immediately to put these ideas into
action:

First, project forward 3-5 years and imagine your ideal future vision. What does it look like? What steps can you take immediately tobegin  turning your future vision into your current reality?

Second, resolve in advance that, no matter what happens, you will remain calm and cool. You will not become upset or angry. You will take a deep breath and focus on the solution rather than on the problem.

Around the corner I have a friend,
In this great city that has no end,
Yet the days go by and weeks rush on,

And before I know it, a year is gone.
And I never see my old friends face,
For life is a swift and terrible race,

He knows I like him just as well,
As in the days when I rang his bell.
And he rang mine but we were younger then,
And now we are busy, tired men.
Tired of playing a foolish game,

Tired of trying to make a name.
‘Tomorrow’ I say! ‘I will call on Jim
Just to show that I’m thinking of him.’
But tomorrow comes and tomorrow goes,
And distance between us grows and grows.

Around the corner, yet miles away,
‘Here’s a telegram sir,’ ‘Jim died today.’
And that’s what we get and deserve in the end.
Around the corner, a vanished friend.

Remember to always say what you mean.
If you love someone, tell them.
Because when you decide that it is the
 right       time it might
be too late.
Seize the day. Never have regrets.
And most importantly, stay close to your friends  and family, for they have helped
make you the person that you are today.

SMILE, even through your tears!!!!!

Shaheed Bhagat Singh 27th Sep His 100th Birthday

September 27th, 2008

Shaheed Bhagat Singh
27th Sep His 100th Birthday

Biography

ShaheedBhagat Singh was born September 27, 1907
in the village Banga ofLayalpur, in district of Punjab(now in pakistan), to Mata Vidyavati
and Sardar Kishan Singh. His uncle, Sardar AjitSingh, was a greatfreedom fighter,of `pagari sambhal jatta’ fame. Ajit Singh established
the Indian Patriots’ Association, along with Syed Haidar Raza, toorganize the peasants against theChenab Canal Colony Bill. He also
established the secret organization, the Bharat Mata Society. AjitSingh had 22 cases against him and was forced to flee to Iran.
Atan early age, Bhagat Singh started dreaming of uprooting the British
empire. Never afraid of fighting, during his childhood he thought of”growing guns in the fields,” so that he could fight against theBritish. Kartar Sing Sarabha, a freedom fighter who hanged at the ageof 19, became his hero. The massacre at Jallianwala Bagh on April 13,1919 drove him to go to Amritsar, where he kissed the earth sanctifiedby the martyrs’ blood and brought back home a little of the soaked soil in his in his launch box and kept it as a memento for life. He studiedin the D.A.V. School in Lahore. At the age of 16, he used to wonder why so many Indians could not drive away these fistful of invaders.
To
avoid early marriage, he ran away from home and became a member of the youth organization Noujawan Bharat Sabha which had memberships of all sects and religions. He met Chandra Shekhar Sharma (Azad), B.K. Dutt Sukhdev and Rajguru and other revolutionaries. They used to print handouts and newspapers in secret and spread political awareness in India through Urdu, Punjabi and English. These were all banned activities in India at the time, punishable with imprisonment.
Bhagat
Singh, along with the help of Chandrashekhar Azad, formed the Hindustan Socialist Republican Army (HSRA). The aim of this Indian revolutionary movement was now defined as not only to make India independent, but also to create “a socialist India.”

Anti-British feelings were spreading; Indians wanted some proper representation in running the administration of their country to which British reciprocated only on paper. Noticing restlessness was spreading, the British Government appointed a commission under the leadership of Sir John Simon in 1928, to report on political happenings. There was no single Indian member in this commission, and all the political parties decided to boycott the commission when it planned to visit major cities
of India. In Lahore, Lala Lajpatrai and Pandit Madan Mohan Malavia decided to protest to the commission in open about their displeasure. It was a silent protest march, yet the police chief Scott had banned meetings or processions. Scott beat Lala Lajpatrai severely with a lathi (bamboo stick) on the head several times. Finally, the leader succumbed to the
injuries. Bhagat Singh who was an eye witness to the morbid scene vowed to take revenge and with the help of Azad, Rajguru and Sukhadev plotted to kill Scott. Unfortunately, he killed Mr. Sanders, a junior officer, in a case of mistaken identity. He had to flee from Lahore to escape death punishment.
No
doubt, the British were keen to arrest all leaders who opposed its arbitrary actions, and Bhagat Singh who was in hiding all this while, volunteered to throw a bomb in the central assembly where the meeting
to pass the ordinance was being held. It was a carefully laid out plot, not to cause death or injury but to draw the attention of the government, that the modes of its suppression could no more be
tolerated. It was agreed that Bhagat Singh and Batukeshwar Dutt would court arrest after throwing the bomb. It was a forgone conclusion in 1929 April 8th at Delhi Central Assembly. Singh and Dutt threw
handouts, and bombed in the corridor not to cause injury and courted arrest after shouting slogans Inquilab Zindabad (Long Live, Revolution!) Meanwhile, the killers of Sanders were identified by the treachery of Bhagat Singh’s friends who became “Approvers.” Bhagat Singh thought the court would be a proper venue to get publicity for the cause of freedom, and did not want to disown the crime. But he gave a fiery statement giving reasons for killing which was symbolic of freedom struggle. He and his friends wanted to be shot dead, since they were termed as prisoners of war. Their request was not fulfilled, and on March 23, 1931, Bhagat Singh, Shivram Rajguru, and Sukhdev were hanged to death.
This man’s only mission in life was to see his country free from British rule. He did his best and when he was being led to the gallows, he was satisfied that he had lived up to his principles, irrespective of the consequences. The only thing that made him sad was that he couldn’t do more for his country .
Bhagat Singh became a legendary hero for the masses. Innumerable songs were composed about him, and the youth throughout the country made him their ideal. He became a symbol of bravery and a goal to free India.

Navratri: The 9 Divine Nights

5 Things you need to know about

“Nava-ratri”literally means “nine nights.” This festival is observed twice a year, once in the beginning of summer and again at the onset of winter.

What”s the Significance of Navratri?

During Navaratri, we invoke the energy aspect of God in the form of the universal mother, commonly referred to as “Durga,” which literally means the remover of miseries of life. She is also referred to as”Devi” (goddess) or “Shakti” (energy or power). It is this energy, which helps God to proceed with the work of creation, preservation and destruction.
In other words, you can say that God is motionless, absolutely changeless, and the Divine Mother
Durga, does everything. Truly speaking, our worship of Shakti re-confirms the scientific theory that energy is imperishable. It cannot be created or destroyed. It is always there.

Why Worship the Mother Goddess?
Visit Us @ www.MumbaiHangOut.Org

We think this energy is only a form of the Divine Mother, who is the mother of all, and all of us are her children. “Why mother; why not father?”, you may ask. Let me just say that we believe that God”s glory, his cosmic energy, his greatness and supremacy can best be depicted as the motherhood aspect of God. Just as a child finds all these qualities in his or her mother, similarly, all of us look upon God as mother. In fact, Hinduism is the only religion in the world, which gives so much importance to the mother aspect of God because we believe that mother is the creative aspect of the absolute.

Why Twice a Year?

Every year the beginning of summer and the beginning of winter are two very important junctures of climatic change and solar influence. These two junctions have been chosen as the sacred opportunities for the worship of the divine power because:

(1) We believe that it is the divine power that provides energy for the earth to move around the sun, causing the changes in the outer nature and that this divine power must be thanked for maintaining the correct balance of the universe.

(2)Due to the changes in the nature, the bodies and minds of people undergo a considerable change, and hence, we worship the divine power to bestow upon all of us enough potent powers to maintain our physical and mental balance.

Why Nine Nights & Days?

Navaratri is divided into sets of three days to adore different aspects of the supreme goddess. On the first three days, the Mother is invoked as powerful force called Durga in order to destroy all our impurities, vices and defects. The next three days, the Mother is adored as a giver of spiritual wealth, Lakshmi, who is considered to have the power of bestowing on her devotees the inexhaustible wealth. The final set of three days is spent in worshipping the mother as the goddess of wisdom, Saraswati.
In order have all-round success in life, we need the blessings of all three aspects of the divine mother; hence, the worship for nine nights.

Why Do You Need the Power?

Thus,I suggest you join your parents in worshipping “Ma Durga” during the Navaratri. She will bestow on you wealth, auspiciousness, prosperity, knowledge, and other potent powers to cross every hurdle of life.Remember, everyone in this world worships power, i.e., Durga, because there is no one who does not love and long for power in some form or the other.

Kal-Sarpa Yoga / Dosha

September 27th, 2008

Kal-Sarpa Yoga / Dosha

Kal-sarpa Yoga or Kal-sarpa Dosha is formed when all the planets are between Rahu and Ketu axis in a chart. This is among the most fearsome dosha in astrology similar to Sade-sati and people are scared just by hearing the name of this yoga. ‘Kaal’ means death and Sarpa means snake and the name itself is good enough to scare people.

“Kala-sarpa Yoga has its bright shades. It [is said to] makes one industrious, hardworking, aware of one’s own ability- despite mental restlessness. It raises the natives to top positions in their respective fields provided of course other Raja Yogas are present. Rahu-Ketu axis favors rise in mundane life while Ketu-Rahu axis indicates elevation in spiritual matters. It is also found that Kala-sarpa Yoga natives get betrayed by trusted friends and even relatives. Suffering due to developments in life strengthens the mind and mellows one’s outlook. This is a blessing of Kala-sarpa Yoga.”

Remedies for Kal-sarpa Yoga:

The birth chart should be analyzed with all good and bad yoga, balas, aspects, placements etc. and then only any remedy should be prescibed. If an astrologer finds any planet malefic, appropriate remedy for that planet(s) should be performed. Astrologers use Traymbkeshwar, Nasik or Ujjain for shanti of Kal-sarpa Yoga.

If Rahu and Moon are in CONJUCTION in a horoscope, then firstly it depends on how near they are to each other Degree wise and Minutes wise. The severity of the combination depends on this

Secondly if RAHU and MOON are much in CONJUCTION then a person suffers from Mental Depression and Confusion, Frustration. Mother of such a person has some health problems.

The various effects of this combination also depends on the the HOUSE of the horoscope in which they are placed.

Few remedy’s of this are :-

One should enchant the Mantra of ” OM NAMAH SHIVAY ” and ” MAHA MRITUNJAY JAP “

One should pray to Lord Shiva , Lord Hanuman and if possible should do a FAST on Monday.

MOTHER

September 27th, 2008

This is a truly BEAUTIFUL piece please
read this at a slow pace, digesting every word and in
 leisure…do not hurry….this is a treasure…

For those lucky to still be blessed with your Mom,
this is beautiful. For those of us who aren’t, this is
even more beautiful. For those who are moms, you’ll love this

The young mother set her foot on the path of life. “Is
this the long way?” she asked.   And the guide said:  ”Yes, and the way is hard.

And you will be old before you reach the end of it. But
the end  will be better than the beginning.”

But the young mother was happy, and she would not
believe that  anything could be better than these years. So she
played with her children, and gathered flowers for
them along the way, and bathed them in the clear streams; and
the sun shone on them, and the young Mother cried,
“Nothing will ever be lovelier than this.”

Then the night came, and the storm, and the path was
dark, and the children shook with fear and cold, and the mother
drew them close and covered them with her mantle, and the children said,

“Mother, we are not afraid, for you are near, and no harm can come.”

And the morning came, and there was a hill ahead, and
the children climbed and grew weary, and the mother was weary.
But at all times she said to the children,” A little  patience and we are there.”
So the children climbed, and when they reached the top
they said, “Mother, we would not have done it without you.”

And the mother, when she lay down at night looked up
at the stars and said, “This is a better day than the last, for my
children have learned fortitude in the face of hardness. Yesterday I gave them courage.

Today, I ‘ve given them strength.”

And the next day came strange clouds which darkened
the earth, clouds of war and hate and evil, and the children groped
and stumbled, and the mother said: “Look up. Lift your eyes to the light.

” And the children looked and saw above the clouds
an everlasting glory, and it guided them beyond the
darkness. And that night the Mother said,

“This is the best day of all, for
I have shown my children God.”

And the days went on, and the weeks and the months and
the years, and the mother grew old and she was little and bent.
But her children were tall and strong, and walked with
courage.  And when the way was rough, they lifted her,
for she was as light as a feather; and at last they came to a hill,
and beyond they could see a shining road and golden gates flung wide. And
mother said, “I have reached the end of my journey. And now I know the end

is better than the beginning, for my children can
walk alone, and their children after them.”

And the children said, “You will always walk with us,
Mother, even when you have gone through the gates.”
And they stood  and  watched her as she went on alone, and the gates
closed after her.  And they said: “We cannot see her
but she is with us still. A Mother like ours is more than a memory.  She
  is a living presence…….”

Your Mother is always with you…. She’s the whisper
of the leaves as you walk down the street; she’s the smell of bleach
in your freshly laundered socks; she’s the cool hand
on your brow when you’re not well. Your Mother lives
inside your laughter. And she’s crystallized in every tear drop.
She’s the place you came from, your first home; and
she’s the map you follow with every step you take. She’s your first love
and your first heartbreak, and nothing on earth can
  separate you.

Not time, not space… not even death!

PASS THIS ON TO ALL THE MOTHERS & CHILDREN YOU KNOW.
MAY WE NEVER TAKE OUR MOTHERS FOR GRANTED…

Pass it on to the men too because they have mothers too….

PITRU PAKSHA ( Mahalay )

September 25th, 2008

PITRU PAKSHA ( Mahalay )

Observance
Hindu scriptures state that the mahalay shraddha may be performed everyday from the full moon day (pournima) till the new moon day (amavasya) of the month of Bhadrapad. However, if this is not possible then it is customary to perform the mahalay shraddha on the date (tithi) of this fortnight corresponding to that of one’s father’s death (if applicable).

The ritual of shraddha should be performed for one’s deceased father, grandfather, great-grandfather on the paternal side and the mother, grandfather, great-grandfather on the maternal side. One can also perform these rites for one’s deceased stepmother, grandfather, great-grandfather, great great-grandfather, grandmother, great-grandmother, great great-grandmother, wife, son, daughter, paternal uncle, maternal uncle, brother, paternal aunt, maternal aunt, sister, son of paternal uncle, son-in-law, nephew (sister’s son), father-in-law, mother-in-law, teachers, priests, friends, the Guru and disciples.

The names of all those alive should be excluded fromthese rituals.

The table below gives the shraddha to be performed for particular individuals on various dates.

Date
(tithi) of Hindu month

Name
of the shraddha

Meant

Specialty
of the ritual

1.
The
fourth (chaturthi)or the fifth (panchami)
[during the reign of the Bharani lunar
asterism]

Bharani
One
who has passed awayduring that year

2.
The
ninth day (navami)

Avidhva navami*
A

a married woman (savashna)

3.
The

(its name in Gujarat, India)

Child
ancestors who have passed away

4. The
fourteenth day

Ghatchaturdashi
Ancestors
who had an accidental death

*Avidhva navami: The ninth day (navami) of the dark fortnight of the Hindu month of Bhadrapad is referred to as avidhva navami. On this day, the rite for the departed (shraddha) is performed for one’s mother or any other woman in the family, who did not die a widow. It is customary to offer a meal to a Hindu priest (brahmin) as well as a married woman (suvasini) on such an occasion.

In these rituals, instead of deities, a class of demigods residing in heaven, described as dhurilochan (dhuri: smoke, lochan: eyes; their eyes remain half closed due to smoke) should be invoked. If possible, two brahmins in the name of deities, three for each of the three oblations offered (parvanas) during the sacred period (parva) and one each in the name of the deceased ancestor should be invited. If this is not feasible then in all five brahmins should be invited; one in the name of the deities, one each for the three oblations and one for all the ancestors.
If it is not possible to perform the mahalay shraddha on the appropriate date (tithi), it may be performed on a later appropriate date till the sun reaches the Scorpio (Vrushchik) solar sign.

Conclusion

The Pitrupaksha fortnight is a reminder of our subtle existence and the spiritual or subtle measures needed in the form of last rites (antya sanskar) and other rites like shraddha, to ensure a smooth passage from existence in the physical to the subtle planes.

By focusing solely on gross sciences, many of these subtle measures are not practiced, even forgotten, especially in Western countries. This has led to significant number of the population suffering from problems created by the subtle bodies of ancestors, who suffer in inferior planes, as their smooth passage was not ensured.

Inability to get married, marital disharmony, difficulty in conceiving a child, miscarriages, bearing mentally retarded or handicapped children, death during childhood, etc., are some of the indications of suffering due to ancestors’ subtle bodies. However, only Saints can tell with certainty if one is suffering or will suffer due to ancestors’ souls. One can assess if one is undergoing such problems, that are not resolved despite trying various conventional methods, and take the spiritual measures to overcome these problems.

The worship of Lord Datta is recommended, chanting (repeating) the Name Sri Gurudev Datta 3, 6, or 9 malas per day depending on the severity of the problem. Ultimately, though, sincere daily spiritual practice is the only way to ensure a Blissful life and passing on to heaven or higher heavens after physical death.
