Hanuman Jayanti

Introduction
HanumanJayanti is a hindu festival celebrated all over India to commemorate the birth of Lord Hanuman. He was born to (Wind-God) Kesari and Anjani. According to legends he was born as a monkey god to serve Parmatama Lord Ram.

A Brief Background

Hanumanji was given birth after a number of divine events. Anjani performed penance and Lord Shiva was pleased, so blessed her.He was granted a son after Vayu, the Wing God also blessed him.

Lord Hanuman was born on the chaitra Shukla Purnima(Full moon day on the Hindu Calendar Month of Chaitra). Also called by the names, Maruti, Pavanputra, Bajrangbali and Mahavira.

Specialities of Hanuman

In most Hanuman mandirs, Lord Hanuman is worshiped either along with Lord Ram or seperately in temples. Also known as an avatara of Lord Rama, he is considered the God of power (Maruti). He was a brahmachari or celebate. Hanuman became a legend mainly for his unflinching devotion and loyalty for Paramatma Lord Ram.

He was an ideal karma yogi for his fearless, selfless service, humility and devotion for Lord Ram.Lord Hanuman is the only deity that cannot be troubled by negative energies.

Celebration

Priests bathe the idol of Hanuman and smear it with oil and sindoor. Special prayers are held and Hanuman Chalisa is also recited by his devotees. This festival is more important among brahmacharis, body builders and wrestlers. Spiritual discourses are held on this day from dawn and prasads are distributed only after sunset. Saturday and Tuesday are considered as auspicious days to worship Lord Hanuman.Hanumanji is considered as a symbol of strength and energy. Lord Ram is rememberedand prayed on this day.
What is hanuman”s original name?
Scholars argue that immediately after the birth of Hanuman his mother Anjana named him Sunder(handsome boy) as he was extremely charming owing to the Divine Power imbibed in him. In support of this supposition a number or scholars say that the fifth chapter of the Ramcharitmanas which abounds in great and glorious deeds of Hanuman has been entitled as Sunder Kand (so also in Valmiki  Ramayana).

On Mahavir Jayanthi, Jain temples are decorated with flags. In the morning the idol of Mahavira is given a ceremonial bath called the “abhishek”.
It is then placed in  cradle and carried in a procession around theneighbourhood. The devotees will make offerings of milk, rice, fruit, incense, lamps and water to the tirthankar.  Some sections of thecommunity even participate in a grand procession. Lectures are held to preach the path of virtue. People meditate and offer prayers.

राम नवमी (श्री साईं नाथ महाराज जी का जन्मोत्सव)=Sai Baba”s Teachings

April 1st, 2012 No comments »

ॐ सांई राम

श्री राम नवमी(श्री साईं नाथ महाराज जी का जन्मोत्सव)

Sai Baba”s Teachings

Sai Baba of Shirdi is the epitome of reverence a guiding force who generates supreme faith and confidence among his devotees looking for salvation and in quest of coming out of the drudgery of living. As a divine mother he is saturated with love for those who seek him. With his mission of making people about the divine consciousness and transcending the limits of mortal body, his teachings are guiding his devotees to the path of salvation. People are blessed who follow his teachings.

Sai BabaAmong the teachings of Sai Baba of Shirdi there are the cardinal principles of Sai Path called “Shraddha” and “Saburi”. Sai Baba looks for these two qualities in his devotees. Here are the teachings and philosophies of Sai Baba of Shirdi.
Shraddha

“Shraddha” is a Sanskrit word, which roughly means faith with love and reverence. Such faith or trust is generated out of conviction, which may not be the result of any rational belief or intellectual wisdom, but a spiritual inspiration. According to Sai Baba of Shirdi, steadfast love in God is the gateway to eternity. Baba”s teaching, both direct and indirect explicate the significance of “Shraddha”. Baba reiterates the spiritual guidance of Shri Krishna to Arjun - “Whosoever offer to Me with love or devotion, a leaf, a flower, a fruit or water, that offering of pure love is readily accepted by Me”.
Saburi

“Saburi”; means patience and perseverance. Saburi is a quality needed throughout the path to reach the goal. This quality must be ingrained in a seeker from day one, least he looses his stride and leaves the path half way
Purity
For Sai Baba it was not the purity of the body but inner purity that mattered. No amount of physical and external cleansing would serve any purpose if the man remained impure in mind and heart. Therefore, Baba cautioned His devotees not to make austerity as an end itself, lest they should indulge in physical mortification.

Compassion

Himself an epitome of compassion and love, Sai Baba taught compassion among his disciples. Baba often told His devotees, “Never turn away anybody from your door, be it a human being or animal”.
Complete Surrender to the Guru
Sai Baba put Guru on a high pedestal of reverence. For Him Guru was the profound base of the path of devotion. Pointing to his physical frame, “This body is my house. I am not here. My Guru (Master) has taken me away”. He asked for complete surrender to the “Guru”.
Sai Baba”s Teachings through “Udi” and “Dakshina”
Udi
Udi or the sacred ash was produced from the perpetual fire called “dhuni” lit by Sai Baba in Dwarkamai at Shirdi. Explaining the meaning of life He would refer to Udi and taught that like Udi all the visible phenomena in the world are transient. Through this example Sai Baba wished to make his devotees understand the sense of discrimination between the unreal and the real. Udi taught the devotees discrimination or vivek.

Sai Baba of Shirdi

Sai Baba of Shirdi was a crown jewel among Saints. He lived his entire life out in a small and obscure village in India. The villagers of Shirdi each claimed him as a member of their own religion, Muslim or Hindu, but really he came to make peace between them and he always encouraged each to stick to his own religious path.

Shri Sai Baba

He drew devotees from all over the country though he never traveled and never cared for fame. Over and over his devotees found he knew their innermost thoughts and details of their lives. He effected cures, conferred health, happiness, and prosperity, and made childless couples conceive.

His real purpose though was to awaken in them a longing for the spiritual life. Thousands thought of him as a wonderful saint with miraculous powers but his innermost circle knew him to be in incarnation of God himself. Some said of Datta, others of Shiva, still others saw ecstatic visions of their own beloved Guru or chosen Ishta (personalized icon of God)

while gazing at Him. He himself said only that he was the humble servant of God and pleased and furthered all who came in contact with him. Many books have been written about Shirdi Sai Baba but the Shri Sai Satcharita, the story of Sai Baba”s life and actions (quoted from below) was written in his own lifetime and is best known among Sai devotees. Just before leaving his body he told a disciple he would be reborn in a certain village 8 years hence and so it came to pass.)

Sai Baba was first seen as a youth of sixteen sitting under a neem tree in Shirdi. None knew his origin or past. Even then he seemed to be full of the knowledge of Brahman. He had no desire for worldly objects, even in dream. He kicked out Maya (illusion) and Mukti (illumination) was serving at his feet.

This young lad, fair, smart, and very handsome, was first seen under a Neem tree seated in an Asan (meditative posture). The people of the village were wonderstruck to see such a young lad practicing hard penance, not minding heat and cold. By day he associated with none. by night he was afraid of nobody. People were wondering whence that young chap turned up. His form and features were so handsome that a mere look endeared him to all.

He went to nobody”s door, always sat near the Neem tree.Outwardly he looked very young; but by his action He was really a great soul. He was the embodiment of dispassion and an enigma to all. A saint name Gangagir who frequented Shirdi said of him on first settingeyes on him “Blessed is Shirdi, that it got this precious jewel“. Another saint by name Anandanath said “This is a precious diamond in reality, though he looks like an ordinary man. You will realize this in the near future.”

Peace or calm was his ornament and he was the repository of wisdom. He had no love for perishable things and was always engrossed in self-realization. He did not know or care for honor or dishonor. The name of Allah was always on his lips. His inside was as calm as the deep sea. Though he sat in one place, he knew all the transactions of the world. Though a Siddha (realized being), he acted like a sadhaka (disciple on the spiritual path). He was meek, humble, and pleased all.

(Sharing with Shirdi Baba”s Love)
OM SAIRAM ॐ सांई राम

Sri Ram Navami= 2012: 1 April.

Ram Navami FestivalRam NavamiHappy Ram NavamiRam Navami Festival

Best wishes for SriRAM Navami

SriRama, Sita, Hanuman

http://sreechandrab.sulekha.com/mstore/sreechandrab/albums/default/Ram%20Navami.bmp

At that time Ravan, king of Lanka, was terrorizing the people, and all were longing for liberation from his menace. Ravan had acquired great power because he had obtained from god Brahma the boon that he would never die at the hands of gods, or gandharvas, or yakshas (demigods) or demons. As he was not afraid of men he did not care to include men in the list of his potential slayers. So Brahmadev declared that Ravan would die at the hands of a man. Then the gods went to Vishnu with the request, “Dasarath is a glorious king. Please, take birth in the wombs of his three queens in four different degrees of your divinity.”

When Dasarath’s sacrifice came to an end a shining figure appeared over the sacrificial kund, and offered the king a divine beverage called “payasam” to be given to his queens Kausalya, Kaikayi, and Sumitra. In due time Kausalya gave birth to Rama, Kaikayi to Bharat and Sumitra to Laxman and Shatrugna. Rama was born at noon of the bright ninth day of Chaitra. He was believed to be the embodiment of half degree of Vishnu’s divinity, (ardha ounsh).

Legend:

Four storeys - even the original Ravana may not have been so tall. But this is the Kali Yuga, when evil is supposed to assume an even more terrifying form. Ravana has his moments of glory, and that too, on Rama Navami, the birthday of Rama.

The effigy of the ten-headed Ravana swaggers through the town, wearing a gaudy crown and exaggerated moustache, with shouting hordes following. But once Ravana reaches the open ground that is his final destination, he is suddenly deserted by most of his “followers” - because the noble Rama has made his appearance.

In the end, righteousness does triumph, even in Kali Yuga. Rama engages him in battle, and finally pierces him with a potent arrow. And the huge effigy of Ravana, filled to bursting with firecrackers, is set alight, and explodes into a thousand bits amid loud cheers from the crowd and shouts of Jai Shri Ram. This ritual is an important part of the Rama Navami celebrations in most parts of North India.

Rama Navami falls on the ninth day of the shukla paksha, or bright phase of the moon, in the lunar month of Chaitra (April-May). The first day of Chaitra , or Ugadi, also marks the beginning of the Indian year.

Rama is one of the ten avatars of Lord Vishnu, and one of the two most popular, along with Krishna. Consequently, Rama Navami is widely celebrated, though not on the scale of festivals like Diwali or Dussehra.

According to legend, Rama was born at noon. Rama is the epitome of perfection, the uttama purusha, fulfilling all his duties towards both family and subjects.

Rama was the first of the four sons of King Dasharatha of Ayodhya. When it was time for Rama to be made crown-prince, his stepmother, Kaikeyi, got Dasharatha to send him to the forest for 14 years. His wife Sita and his brother Lakshmana also accompanied him. In the forest, Sita was kidnapped by Ravana, the demon king of Lanka. Rama, together with Hanuman and the monkey army, built a bridge to Lanka, killed Ravana, and brought Sita back.

It is believed that listening to the story of Rama cleanses the soul. Meditating on the noble Rama and chanting his name is believed to ease the pains of life and lead one to moksha, or liberation. It is also common practice to chant the name of Rama while rocking babies to sleep.

Significance:

Though Rama Navami is a major festival for Vaishnavites, it is widely celebrated by worshippers of Shiva, too. It is considered auspicious to undertake a fast on the day in the name of Rama. The more devout fast for nine days, from Ugadi to Rama Navami. The objective of the fast is not to ask for special favours of the deity but to seek perfection as a human being. Devotees perform elaborate pujas and chant the name of Rama. Temples of Rama have special services and bhajan sessions through the day.

One significant and popular element of the celebration is the Ramayana parayana, a discourse on the Ramayana, by a pundit or a professional story-teller. It usually lasts nine days, beginning on Ugadi and ending on Rama Navami. A skilled story-teller who can liven up the event by weaving in contemporary events attracts massive crowds.

Since Rama is also one of the most sung-about deities in Indian classical music and literature, week-long (and sometimes, month-long) musical programmes are organised.

Sacred places associated with Rama, like Ayodhya, Ujjain and Rameshwaram, draw tens of thousands of devotees. In Rameshwaram, thousands take a ritual bath in the sea before worshipping at the Ramanathaswamy temple.

Many places in North India host fairs in connection with the festival, culminating in spectacular fireworks on Rama Navami.

The Ram Navami celebrates the joyous birth of Lord Rama. Ayodhya was the cynosure of all eyes, as King Dasharath finally had an heir to the throne. Lord Rama an avatar of lord Vishnu, agreed to come down to earth to fight the mighty Ravana.

Happy
 Gudi Padwa

&

Happy Ugaadhi

The True Birth Day of

Universe

Does the title seem “” Too far-fetched””? Fellow Indian [nay Bharatiya] friends, have we, the descendents of great sages [seientists],ever bothered to find the meaning of the following Sankalp Shloka which we recite before performing any pooja?
           .
This gives us the time as on today (according to earth time frame) from the birht of the present universe!
  Let”s count it how!

At the poles the earth has day and night of 6 months each. So the “north or south pole” day = 1 equator year.

And that 1pole-year (called as Divya Varsha) = 360 years (not 365, as lunar  month is of 30 days)

1200 Divya Varshas (1000+200sandhi)= 360 x 1200=4,32,000yrs.=Kali-yuga.

The start of a “Yuga” is marked by a conjuction of 7 heavenly bodies, viz.Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, & Saturn., (The ones which affect the Earth atmosphere.)And this is proved by today”s astronomists.

European astronomist Belly says “According to astronomical calculations of Hindus, the present period of the Earth, Kali-yuga,commenced 3102 yrs. B. C. on 20th Feb at 2hrs. 27 mins. & 30 secs. They say a conjuction of 7 heavenly bodies, then took place;their tables(Panchang) shows it.,& is exactly confirmed by our own current tables.” Now isn”t it astounding, the calculations are thousands of yrs. old !! (see Yajur-veda ..) And this happens at the begining of every “4,32,000yrs.” period(yuga.)
Resuming our calculations, Kali = 1; So this conjuction occurs once.
Dwapar-yuga (dwa =2) has this conjuction twice,Treta(=3)yuga has thrice  &Krita/Satya(=4)yuga has it 4 times. So also the no. of years in them are 2, 3,& 4, times that ofKali-yuga respectively. All “4 Yugas” added make a Maha-yuga..

Kali(1)+Dwapar(2)+Treta(3)+Krita(4)=10=1
 Maha-yuga.=10×4,32,000yrs

71Maha-yugas(+9600 yuga-sandhis)=1 Manvantar (the current 7th one isnamed Vaivasvat).  14 such Manvantars =1000 Maha-yugas=1 Kalpa
(Shweta-waraha Kalp in this case) =1000×4,32,000=432 crore yrs.

Now isn”t it mind boggling even to imagine these figures !
The time taken by our Sun & planets (Surya-mandalto revolve around our galaxy Milky Way is 1 Manvantar.

All galaxies (named as Vishwadev) together form a circle called Parameshti-mandal, which revolves around Swyam-bhuv (meaning self-originated) Mandal  in one Kalp time. We say that the galaxies move around “Black Hole”(?) in today”s parlance.Swyam-bhuv ! ;how a very apt name for a “Black Hole”! in today”s parlance.Swyam-bhuv ! ;how very apt a name for a “Black Hole”!
Universe personified as BRAHMA who has a lifespan of 100 yrs.;(1 Kalpa yrs.=12hours in BRAHMA”s time-frame.) Universe is born at  the begining of BRAHMA”s each day,( of Kalpa) & dissolves itself in to nothingness at night (of 1 Kalpa), only  to be Reborn again onBRAHMA”s next morning.
Now lets calculate the no.of yrs.passed, since our present Universe was born !
Till today 6 Manvantars are over (= 6 X ..           yrs.)( ?… see above )
Of the 7th Vaivasvat Manvantar, 27 Maha-yugas (add 27 X43,20,000yrs. ) are  also done.
Of the 28th Maha-yuga, Krita,(Satya)Treta, & Dwapar yugas are also over. The current 28th Kali-yugastarted 5108 years ago. on Feb 20th at 2 hrs 27 mins & 30 secs.,the Varsha Pratipada day, when the Sun and above mentioned planets were in conjunction. This has been verified by today”s astronomists.;It matches with today”s calculations about the years of existence of our galaxy & Universe  Hence for any astronomical calculations, reference point of starting of this 28th Kali-yuga is used, though not named so. (Due to our powerless & gut-less condition.)

Our vital link (unblical cord) of Sanskrit knowledge being broken the
mental salvery of biased Western thought seems to have fouled our
blood, making us ingorant and indifferent to our ancient wisdom.Fellow Bharatiyas come lets take a vow / sankalp to understand “the above Sankalp” on this “Earth time-frame” Brith day of our present Unverse,“The Gudi Padwa” where the Sun is -in —– Raashi and Moon in Chitra Raashi on full moon day.

The  Two thoughts of

Gudi  Padwa

Thought One

It is believed that on “Gudi Padva” :
  • The Universe was created by Brahma.
  • Satyuga (The Age of Truth and Justice) began.
  • Shri Rama returned to Ayodhya victorious, after having killed Ravana.
  • This is one of the 3 and a half days in the Hindu Lunar calendar, whose every moment is considered auspicious.
  • The festival is celebrated as Ugadi in  Karnataka. Seven, Nine or eleven haystacks are placed on a farmland and are  set alight.  The ashes are mixed while ploughing the farm.

Thought  Two

The “Gudi” consists of a wooden stick and a steel inverted copper or silver “loti” (jug) which symbolizes a flag post.
This
flag-post in turn symbolizes the Victory of Shree Ram over the Demon
King Ravana as a mark of triumph of good over evil. The Gudi also
symbolizes Shree Ram”s triumphant entry into Ayodhya.
The flag post also has a Spiritual significance.  The
inverted empty “loti” symbolizes the “empty” ego. The “inverted” loti,
could mean an indication to look within (ourselves).
The open sky stands for “Ones true free spirit” away from the confines of the world.
A bitter-sweet mixture of neem leaves, jaggery and jeera is
consumed early in the morning.
The ladies dress in their traditional finery, purchase golden items, adorn their homes with orange flowers and jubilantly usher in peace and harmony on this day, their New Year”s

Science in the worship of the Gudi

gudi-pujaThe divine consciousness emanating during sunrise, absorbed at that time lasts longer. Thus the Gudi should be worshipped within 5-10 minutes after sunrise!

On Gudi Padwa, the waves consisting of the fire element (Tej tatva) and the creative element (Prajapati element) are activated on a large scale. The divine consciousness emanating during sunrise, absorbed at that time lasts longer. This consciousness is stored in the body cells and used as required. Hence the Gudi should be worshipped within 5-10 minutes of the sunrise.

Method of raising the Gudi

gudi-raising01Position of the Gudi:
Care should be taken to raise the Gudi next to the main entrance of the house. The spot selected should be on the right side (when sighted fro  the house) of the entranceThe right side symbolizes active state of the soul.
1. The place for raising the Gudi should be cleaned and then a Swastik rangoli should be drawn on the ground. Turmeric and vermilion (Haldi-kumkum) should be offered at the center of the Swastik.
2. While raising the Gudi, the ‘Shiva-Shakti’ element in the Universe should be invoked. This enables all the constituents of the Gudi to accept divine elements.
3. The Gudi symbolizes the ‘Sushumna nadi’ of our body. Hence, the Gudi should be raised at the entrance. And it should be kept tilted at an angle. - A Scholar (through the medium of Ms. Anjali Gadgil)

Prayer

‘O Lord Brahma, Lord Vishnu! Please enable me to absorb the elements of creation, fire and Sun present in the atmosphere. Let the Divine consciousness present in these elements be preserved constantly. Let the energy thus received, be used for my spiritual practice.’
