EMOTIONS

Emotions cause you pain and they actually dictate behaviour to you.In other words when you are emotional you are no longer in control. For example, when you are excited you might think excitement is good. You cant actually think clearly. The emotion of excitement takes over and leads you to act.Its not always the best action that is born from excitement and you dont have any control. The same goes for anger. The emotion clouds your judgement and through this you act.You act without using your consciousness. The result is an outcome that is not always favourable and one that you have no control over.

Reshma: What you wrote about “Emotions” is very thought provoking. One of the methods I use is to PARTICIPATE in emotion such as instead of becoming angry, I DELIBERATELY BECOME ANGRY… Instead of becoming passionate, I DELIBERATELY BECOME PASSIONATE. In that way, I find I can control my emotions much better.

Another thing I do and teach others is HAMSA. Hamsa method is the method of watching (inhalation and exhalation) without interfering with the rhythm of the breathing. The method is very simple. You may sit or stand or lie down in whatever position you like. You can do it at any time of the day or night. You can do it at any place. You can do it for as long as you like. Prior to following this method, if it helps, then you may do deep breathing exercises to induce ”rhythmic breathing” in your system for five to ten minutes.
