Harry Potter

I am reading J K Rowlings’ fourth Harry Potter series - Harry Potter & the Goblet of Fire.

I find reading Rowling’s series has increased my argumentative powers.

I will tell you more when I will finish this book.

If you have read the book write to me.

The Malayalam Write, Mr Pillai

On my way back from Kerala this time, I bought two books - PRAWNS (translated from Malayalam ‘Chemmeen’) by Thakazhi Sivasankaran Pillai, and MY STORY by Kamala Das.

I started reading MY STORY first. It could not attract my attention much. Its all about what went wrong in ‘my’ life. So silly & so contemptous writing. Its as if the writer is the only one who had faced all the problems in human relations. Most of us have gone through the problems of similar degree, but its not worth-while talking about it public. It was very silly.

So I took a break & started reading ‘PRAWNS’. Wow !!! I could not put down the book. I had been to Lakshwadeep once & seen fishermen & their folks. I could relate myself more that way. This story written so long ago, is a tribute to all honourable fisherfolk in India. I am glad Malayalam is one language that can express all the feelings in the world.  Now this book was made into a movie - it was the first color movie in Malayalam. They say it was a big hit then & received several awards. The book itself received President’s Award then. It was then translated into so many national & international languages. The writer is just so brilliant.

I believe good things will last for ever.

A mirage called Women’s faith

A woman’s mind belongs to none.

It can never be understood.

Even after marriage, it does not belong to the husband.

But all husbands can try.

Women, they’re an intresting subject.

A clever Tiger called Raj Thackery

People say where is he when Mumabi need him the most ??? (in the context of recent terrorism)

I say he’s waiting for his chance. He’s a politician & not a soldier.

He will come back. This time with his tirade against the not-so-respected minority (you know whom !!!). And when he does that, all are going to support him. People’s memory being short, they will join him & he’ll garner more votes than than ever.

The BJP who are trying to evade him (because of the north Indian issue), may prefer to join him now.

May God bring peace to India.

Our Chief Minister, Monsieur Achudanandan

A lot of ruckus has been created out of what was supposed to be an official condolence visit by the Kerala Chief Minister, Monsieur Achudanandan.

A busy person he might be, a denial of entry to a house to offer condolences is a rude behaviour especially when its a Chief Minister. At least one should respect the position if not the person.

The eventual impulsive outburst was unwarranted. But having said that, Mr Achudanandan may, if he want, apologise to the family, at least as a sympathetic gesture.

One do not expect a Chief Minister to visit anyone’s home to offer condolences. There’s a time for it. It can be according to the minister’s schedule & not necessarily to the match with the timing that any affected family is mourning.

The Chief Minister can at in an opportune time offer a badge of honour to the victim, posthumously.

If any officials of other state had time to visit the family, we respect that.

As it is, Kerala is also among the state where terrorism is spreading its wings. A Chief Minister can get busy solving it than getting embroiled with the silly media who can be scavengers at times.

My sincere condolences to the the near & dear ones of the great Major who lost his life fighting bravely.

Kiran Bedi, We love you !!!

Just finished reading her biography ‘I DARE’.

What a woman she is !!! I once saw her taking morning walk in the Talkatora Gardens in Delhi & I said ‘Good

Morning Ma’m to her. She was walking alone, fearless, with a pocket radio in her hand.

She’s a woman of guts who’s an inspiring person for all those aspiring woman leaders.

She reformed the Tihar prison from a ‘hellish gaol’ to a ‘reformative ashram’.

She got the Magsasay Award for this work of her. This Award is considered the Noble Prize of Asia.

She has done more good to India than any other living woman. She’s the modern Mother Teresa - Firm on the ground, has her own personal life & also is devoted for others.

YOGA

So I discovered practising YOGA is a good way of leading a sane life.

I do it everyday now for one hour. It is recommended by yoga gurus that practising YOGA for 2 hrs daily off the 24 hrs a day will give you all that you need to succeed in anything that you embark upon - be it work or personal life.

I am trying to reach that stability in my life. I am doing fasting for one day each week. Its my way of telling my body to get a treat of fruits/milk for the entire day than the masala/fried stuff. In the night I have potato fried in ghee & then cooked in milk. Its good to finish the day like that.

Trust me yoga is the cure for all diseases. And I am a great fan of my mom who does yoga daily & is in good health in her old days.
