Little Angels

An association that started anonymously has today become a very special one in my life. A neighbor, who works closely with orphanages, as a medical advisor asked me to visit one of the nearby ones and help the children with their studies. I agreed. On the way, as I had run out of change, I went and bought a cake from a nearby shop to be able to pay the cab driver. I went inside and gave the cake to their supervisor and asked her to distribute it among the people there.

Then I got busy interacting with the children. Their talents are awesome especially in painting and singing. I as taken aback by some of the "drawings" that I saw!  They had laid their souls bare on the paper, and colored them with the hues of their heart. I wondered if these immensely talented children will ever get any recognition for their talents.

Sometime after lunch, the supervisor brought in the cake. There was tremendous excitement amongst the children there. "So big" "chocolate hai" "red flower mujhe chahiye"etc. were words that were flying in the air. But two little children one about 6 years old and another about 4 years old, both wanted to cut the cake! Their argument refused to die down. So, the supervisor decided to cut the cake herself. While the cake was being cut and distributed, the 4 years old child came up to me and asked me whether I could bring two cakes the next time, so that they could both cut a cake. He added that he had never cut a cake before. I told him; of course I will, and tell his aunty to let him cut it, too. Looking into those guileless, innocent eyes almost pleading, I am sure no one could have said anything else!

When Ihad carelessly bought the cake , not for a moment did I think the kind of joy it would bring to these children’s lives. And, consequently to mine as well…

I have always wanted to visit such places, coz India has talent, has sharp minds, sumwhere here. I remember teaching some children outside the IIT Guwahati campus…was startled to know that they didnt know what is the significance of 15 August. They were really sharp minded and I am sure will make it big in life given a chance…no wonder they are being misguided there…hats off to you for such an effort…cheers..

They both could have cut the cakes one from each side - facing each other… Such a nice incident! and your effort. Great! And don”t worry, I am sure at least 30-40% of these children will be able to do exceptionally well… I haven”t met any colleague who had lived in an orphanage, but many of my class mates in my engg college were from really poor family… I can tell here… one of my friend’’s father used to sell moongphalis on a small railway station… He had struggled a lot to come up and now he is comfortably earning and is well settled. There are many like him. Just we have to keep faith in ourselves and in the good things in life… Nice to see you here, I will also try to do something, but I don”t get motivation to do regularly…. I help needy in my own ways… Let us see. (Rahul)

Madhuban khushboo deta hai, sagar sawan deta ..
jeena usko kehte hai jo auron ko jeewan deta hai…….. this song was playing while i was driving today and it sensed THE REAL meaning of life, your post is just synonymous to what the song means… a very touching gesture. We keep thinking of doing bigger things in life, revolutionizing the society but donot take little steps and are oblivious of happiness of others ………….we owe a lot to society people and children… so I wish Icould do something…
