The girl in Jamnagar II
Background: Some days ago I had written about a girl I had seen just once in Jamnagar (when I was there on some training. Her smile was reason enough to write about her. During the two years (1992- 94)that I spent there, there was another girl I first noticed at Sumer club. It was her beautiful eyes that I went gaga over. Anyhow as the real story goes .I kept looking at her every time she would pass me by on her moped. My friends and I would sit around late into the night, especially on weekends, and we would all ogle at the pretty ladies. Some where in time she too must have realized too that I was interested in her and she made it a point to look in my direction when she zipped up and down.
So this is a poem I wrote about Vaishali as I found out her name to be ..
It was at Sumer Club that I first saw you
Gracefully dancing to the Dandia beat
While others walked with friends and family
I watched you sitting glued to my seat
Your pleasing face and those pretty eyes
Does the trick like it has always done
Made me happy when you were around
And yearn to see you when you are gone
You have kept me waiting eagerly and there is no doubt
And I have sat there by the road on many evenings and into the night
Just to catch ONE glimpse of you homeward bound
In shades of pink, yellow, black or white
Two years have passed and now the days left are very few
It was high time I communicated my feeling
I decided to pen down these lines to tell you
Yours are the prettiest eyes I have ever seen.
So when there was a week left for me to leave Jamnagar, I said to myself enough is enough and I decided I am gonna tell her what I wanted to say. So one evening I followed her friend and her on my bike to a garment shop. While her friend got busy purchasing, I crept up behind her and asked her if I could speak with her. For sure she was shakey as I had sprung up completely un announced that my repeated requests only met with the unspoken NO and a nodding head for an answer. Finally I complemented her on her eyes and walked away giving her time to realise that I had just said something nice.

The girl in Jamnagar
Background:
This was originally written by me on the 25 Mar 93 in my little diary. Those days there were no Internet Blogs and there were definitely no cell phones either. Any way this was at a time when I was In Jamnagar (Gujarat) seated at a paid Telephone booth. We had to wait for our turn and there was the old man (the owner) who would allow us to make the calls on a First Come First Served basis. Close to the booth was also the MP Shah Medical College from where young doctors to be would come to make calls home. At that age naturally I was interested in some of the pretty girls from the college who would frequent the booth - some on the pretext of making calls and some just to tease us boys. Any way there was also rumour that a portion of MP Shah colleg was haunted. But try hard as I did neither the ghosts not those pretty ladies wanted to haunt me.
This is what happenned on one such night….
Saw you here the other day
Saw you here the other night
Came into make a call
Ended up doing nothing right
It wasn’t my turn , I was told
Despite mine topping the list of names
Four girls were given the preference
Was the old man to be blamed ?
I had to sit and wait
And so I watched you for a while
It was just another day
Until I saw you smile
You called and then you left
Leaving behind no mark or trace
Who is that? - I could only wonder
As the dismay mounted on my face
Should you come my way again
I promised I would let you know
That I like the way you smile
I liked it the other day, today and I would like it tomorrow
