Once own way of thinking!!!

February 12, 2008 By: Sahiti Bharadwaj Category: Philosophy

One needs years of very attentive, very careful, very reasonable, very coherent work, organisation, selection, construction, in order to succeed simply in forming, oh, simply this little thing, “one’s own way of thinking!”

One believes he has his own way of thinking. Not at all.

It depends totally upon the people one speaks with or the books he has read or on the mood he is in. It depends also on whether you have a good or bad digestion, it depends on whether you are shut up in a room without proper ventilation or whether you are in the open air; it depends whether there is sunshine or rain! You are not aware of it, but you think all kinds of things, completely
different according to a heap of things which have nothing to do with you!

And for this to become coordinated, coherent, logical thought, a long thorough work is necessary.

Proof of Concept ?!

March 02, 2007 By: Sahiti Bharadwaj Category: Philosophy

Got this in a fwd which gives number of ways in which a human brain can be tricked/fooled! I was awe struck and thought "Is this same brain we humans are so proud of? Is this the same "rational" brain and the same "eyes" through which we see the world, judge it and demand "proof" to be "seen" in order to accept any fact?

It occurred to me that this can be taken as the proof of limits of human brain and also a proof of concept for the following fact propounded by Hindu way of life!

First Try this!

Concentrate on the cross in the middle, after a while you will notice that this moving purple dot will turn green!

Look at the cross a bit longer and you'll notice that all dots except the green one will disappear. This is a bit scary….”seeing” the dots vanish “before your eyes” ?!?

So much for the atheists and agnostics asking for reason and proof for anything and everything.. ! ;-)) :-p

The Concept

Focus at the "pure self" at the core of our heart! The illusionary world (maaya) disappears and you see the world for what it really is! Focus harder and everything except "pure self" disappears (Is this enlightenment?!?!:-) )!

(Pure self is the cross in the middle, purple dots and the green dots different levels of the maaya)

As always Wondering If I made any sense! :-)

Oh my God !

Well, thats not a distress call to God. ;-) Thats what i do when i just feel like knowing what my Buddy is upto !(Well, no probs, he is used to it! :-) God means different things to different people. Father, Mother, The God, or whatever. For me, he is just my “Buddy”, whom i treat just the same, listening, confiding, squabbling, arguing, and at times even threatening !! :-)) That helps me approach him with all love and no fear! For me, he is incapable of anger or punishement ! It is our actions that hurt us and cause misery to us and everyone around, but not God !

Let me tell u how. Suppose a mother warns a toddler not to touch the electric plug points. The ever inquisitive child still goes and pokes around the plug point and gets a mild shock. Now, is the child right in thinking that his mother caused the shock as she was angry he didnt listen to her?!? “Its the electricity, idiot! Not your mom”, one would say. Poor mother is in greater anguish seeing her child suffer. Even though she knows she cant guard him from ALL danger, she is still trying to guard him in which ever way she can to the point of obsession! But still the little prankster gets enough opportunities to hurt himself!

The child is right if he realizes that he got hurt because he didnt listen to his mother. But what if he thinks, his mother “punished” him with “current shock” because he didnt listen to her !! Thats funny and not true, right ???

If there is so much love, patience and forgiveness in our worldly Mother of one birth, can u imagine their magnitude from someone who has been with us for hundreds of thousands of births!?!?

Again, If he does love us so much, why is he not with us right here ! right now!

Same analogy of Mother and child explains this too !

As long as a child is playing with his toys happily, mother goes about her work. She is still watching his every move, guarding him from danger. When a child cries, she sees whether he "really" needs her. She tries to figure out if he is crying for “her” or out of thirst, hunger, sleep or for a new toy. If it is any of the latter, she gives him what he wants and gets back to work. But when a child persists and cries for his mother, she leaves everything and rushes to him. She tries to divert him with this or that, but the child persists. Only then, she is just there for her child unconditionally, personally holding him and pampering him!! (That
doesnt mean she loved him any lesser when she was away!Isnt it?!)

It is just the same with God. We approach God wanting this or that and blame him that we can see or feel him. The catch is, nobody goes to him and says "I don't want all this crap. I want YOU and YOU alone, nothing else is going to calm me down!!!" Rare bunch of people like Meera Bai, Guru Nanak, Buddha, Mahaveer, Kabir, Rama
Krishna paramahamsa .(fortunately, the list is long!) were able to do that and God did rush to them, didn't he!??! :-)

PS: The analogy of electricity to “karma” also strikes me. If u know how to use it correctly(good karma), electricity is what runs the world around us. Mess with it (bad karma) and you got to be ready for the consequenses!! There is absolutely no one else involved, it’s just YOU and “it” (your karma) to settle scores as per rules defined by Nature :-)
