Narayanapatna of Orissa

Dear ilanders,After a long gap I am posting an article that was sent to me from the sources. Kindly read the article and put your feed back. This is the story of NARAYANAPATNA of Orissa state.

Salwa
Judum in Narayanpatna When Rest of Orissa Sleeping

Planned Murder of Singana by Police, Land
grabbers celebrating

Bauxite Miners, Land lords, Mafia, Police Unleash
Reign of Terror,

         Who is with the people
when Nabin is with miners, ask people?

 Bhubaneswar:
Nov 25,2009
: A team consisting of the
representatives of peoples' organizations that visited Narayanpatna on 23rd
November 2009 after the killing of two members of the Chasi Mulia Adivasi Sangh
spearheading the movement for restoration of tribal lands from non tribal land
grabbers on 20th November 2009 by paramilitary police of the state in the
pretext of self defence has come across shocking evidences which are
unacceptable in a democracy guided by a constitution and established acts and
laws. The team at the outset would like to state here categorically that

i.
The killing of K.Singana a top ranking leader of Chasi Mulia Adivasi
Sangha
along with Andrew Nachika was a well thought out murder
executed by the state police with the help of the IRB and CRPF and it was not
an act of self defence.

ii.
The killing of Singana was preceded by a series of house to house raids in the
villages in Narayanpatna area in which the men had been tortured and the
women humiliated and sexually abused

iii.
The Chasi Mulia Adivasi Sangha had brought the matter to the notice of the OIC
of Narayanpatna P.S
who had given them the assurance that the combing operation
in search of Maoists was not targeted against them and he would personally
supervise and ensure that no member of the Sangh is harassed

iv.
Since the OIC did not keep his words and atrocities continued the Sangh leaders
had gone to the PS with the only intention of asking the OIC why he breached
the trust and to take the 'foreign' security forces back to the barrack
.

v.
The number of people assembled outside the PS was hardly one hundred and
some of them carried their conventional weapons which is an accepted tribal
habit in the region

vi.
The firing started when K.Singana was inside the PS and discussing with the
OIC
and as soon as he came out of the PS he was targeted and killed. His
dead body was then dragged in to the PS.

vii.
More than 60 rounds of ammunition fired killing K.Singana and
 Andrew
Nachika and injuring 25 others some of them being
critically wounded

viii.
Plain cloth policemen and local land lords roaming around jointly and
identifying tribal leaders who are tortured by them
before they land up in
police custody

ix.
Those sustained critical bullet injury don't receive any medical attention
as there is fear of arrest and torture by the police

x.
Salwa Judum type squads formed and any one visiting the area is tortured and
humiliated
with the active patronage and support from the local OIC

xi.
Budha Gamang veteran tribal leader of South Orissa and President of Lok
Sangram Manch taking part in the funeral of Singana beaten up by police and
openly threatened to be shot in a staged Maoist encounter
. Com Sivaram
of CPI-ML and other leaders face humiliation in the hands of police and Salwa
Judum team

xii.
Most of local media persons operating from Narayanpatna Police station, Fair
reporting a remote possibility
as most reporters are also part of
the land grabbing communities

xiii.
Repression against members of the democratic mass movement is already at
an intensified stage and is going to increase in coming days and
there is no sane voice available to protest. The victimized tribals have been
left out uncared and isolated. The attack on the peaceful demonstration in
which Singana was killed and ongoing raids have been deliberately timed to
sabotage the harvest of the tribal farmers
. Their agricultural tools
have been seized by the police in the name of taking away weapons from them.

As a result many people have been unable to harvest their  crops while
many are not being able to collect already harvested produce.

xiv.
The land grabbers getting reorganized in the form of peace committees with
active support of police and ruling party leaders

xv.
The police were restless as Narayanpatna had become a litigation free
Police station with no cases registered by tribals against any one which
happened mostly because tribals had given up liquor and were looking after
their own welfare collectively

xvi.
The land lords and traders were restless because the organized
tribals had taken back their land forcibly occupied by them

xvii.
The mining company and its potential beneficiaries were restless because
the Chhasi Mulia Adivasi Sanghhad organized conventions declaring that no Mali
( bauxite rich mountains)in the area shall be given for mining

xviii.
The nexus killed K.Singana by making the local police their instrument
that in turn made use of the Green Hunt operation declared by the UPA
government and now they want to kill the most successful and democratic land
restoration movement in the history of Orissa by use of brute force

xix.
Chasi Mulia Adivasi Sangh is a democratic mass organization and existed
much before, 'Maoists' became an issue in the area

xx.The CM
Nabin Patnaik shamelessly sleeping
while the dignified opposition is yet
to wake up
to the call of the tribal peasants crying for justice.

xxi.
There will be a statewide protest against the heinous murder of Singana
and ongoing police repression in Narayanpatna on 28th Nov 09.

Backdrop:

Narayanpatna
came to the news when on the 8th of May 2009, the land grabbers 400 to 500 in
number attacked tribals households in Narayanpatna with the support of the
local police which was challenged by the members of the Chasi Mulia Adivasi
Sangh who instantly got organised after an alarm was raised. The police under
pressure seized a house of the land grabbers in which they were making bombs.
After that Narayanpatna has been constantly in news because the tribals had
launched a very powerful and yet peaceful movement for restoration of their
land grabbed by outsiders. There have been very systematic attempts to divide
them and brand a larger section of them as Maoists or Maoist sympathizers. Out
of about 37000 people living in the area, 30000 are tribals who lived for the
last 40/50 years as bonded labourer at the disposal of outsiders who had gone
and settled there primarily to capture their resources.

In the
last two months the state has witnessed the formation of peace committees by
powerful vested interests with the support of the police and prospective mining
companies. They have organized peace convention demanding arrest of the leaders
of CMAS and the activists who have expressed their solidarity with the
victimized tribals. The media has highlighted these events in Laxmipur (
Birla's Hindalco is there) Semiliguda, Koraput and Dushamantpur rich with
bauxite deposits.

Demands

i.
Immediate withdrawal of all armed and paramilitary police such as Cobra,IRB
and CRPF
from Narayanpatna and immediate stop of the farce called
combing operation

ii.
Dismantling of the Salwa Judum operation happening in the name of so
called Peace Committees in entire Koraput region and registering murder
cases against the local OIC and all other culprits

iii.
A compensation Rs 10 lakhs to the next of the kin killed by the police
and immediate
medical treatment with proper financial compensation to the tribal peasants
sustaining bullet injuries

iv.
Immediate withdrawal of all cases against the innocent
peasants of CMAS and releasing them from jail

v.
State protection to tribals who have captured back their lost land which
normally the state was expected to do but it did not

vi.
           Investigation
by a serving judge of Orissa High Court in to the killing of Singana and the
land grabbing issue

GOD SAVE ME…..

GOD SAVE ME…..

This is the daily scenario of any city that claims to be more modern and upcoming, but the mentality remains same as the people don’t even mind sending this tiny girls to pluck flowers for their daily PUJA purpose, which may cause her life, but still to satisfy the so called ‘GOD’ she climbed the wall which is taller than herself, and is fixed with broken glass panes to keep the robbers away.

Shame on us…….

Youth in Politics….

Congress brighten its chance in Jeypore by picking up Youth and educated candidate Sri.K.Nagaraj.Dora

Subsequent
to the delimitation exercise, Jeypore is the only general category
assembly constituency in the Koraput parliamentary constituency. The
seat has been retained by Sri Rabi Narayan Nanda of BJD during last two
elections. However, the delimitation exercise and reservations have
thrown upen the constituency for an interesting fight. As both the
Koraput and Nawarangpur has been made reserve constituency, both the
sitting MLAs Sri Traprasad Bahinipati and Sri Habibulla Khan were
eyeing for the Jeypore seat. However, Sri K.Nagaraj Dora of Borigumma Block of the Jeypore Contituencey has proved to be a dark horse and piped both the sitting MLAs    to claim Congress ticket for the Jeypore constituency.
The new Rahul formula for preference to Youth and educated congress
leaders has clearly tilted the scale in favour of Sri Dora. Sr Dora in
his early forties had been a front ranking congress activist since 1983
and has been the Block President of Student Congress, Vice President of
District Youth Congress, Ge.Secy of State Youth Congress and President
of District Krushak Cell over the years and has worked in the
constituency at grass root level since 1983. The Jeypore assembly
constituency has three main segments - the Borigumma Block '" the
largest Block of the state, Jeypore Block and Jeypore constituency. The
fact that Sri.Dora belong to Borigumma Block, apart of Jeypore
constituency, has worked in his favour as against Sri Bahinipati and
Sri Khan both of whom are treated as outsiders and vehemently opposed
by the local congress leaders and workers. This issue has polarized the
congress workers of the Jeypore constituency so much that other
aspirants for the Congress ticket like Sri. Biren Patnaik, Sri Sudhir
Saranghi and Sri Ajit Sahu etc have decided to support Mr.Dora's
candidature to ensure that no outsiders get the congress seat from
Jeypore. Moreover, falling age of Mr. Khan and the antecedents of Mr.
Bahinipati like his involvement in cross voting for Rajya Sabha
candidate Dillip Ray did not help their cause with congress leadership.
Sri Bahinipati was earlier suspended from congress for cross voting and
his rowdy behavior in the assembly had already embarrassed the congress
leadership

The
split in the BJP-BJD alliance had a given a boost to the prospect of
congress candidate Sr. Dora from Jeypore. More over the years Sri Nanda
has lost much of his credibility due his involvement in one scandal or
another. The prospect of some body from Borigumma Block, for the first
time since independence, is going to represent the Jeypore constituency
had united the entire population of Borigumma Block irrespective of
their party affiliation. The demographic composition of Jeypore
municipality, which is Telugu speaking dominated is going to help Sri
Dora as against Sri Nanda of BJD. Apart from being a close associate of
Sri Giridhar Gamang, the undisputed leader of the undivided Koraput
District, Sri Dora enjoys immense goodwill of the people of the Jeypore
Municipality, Jeypore Block and Borigumma Block and all the frontal
organizations of Congress in these three segments have unequivocally
supported Sri Dora's candidature, which is going to see him through the
assembly election.

Wants to die slowly…Eat BT vegetables

Food for thought, Food for death.

Bhubaneswar: Mahesh
Bhatt adds a new dimension to the growing rage against GM food amongst
consumers all over the world. In the film, 'Poison on the Platter',
directed by Ajay Kanchan, Mahesh Bhatt puts across the message that
consumers in India deserve better than mere verbal assurances by a
handful of industry backed scientists and bureaucrats that GM food is
safe. He himself prefers to be on the side of science. One of the first
statements that the film states is that it is based on hard facts; upon
peer reviewed scientific studies.

What
could be worse than a nuclear attack, the huge tragedy of 9/11, floods,
cyclones and the world wars? Bhatt says the health hazards of
genetically modified would dwarf all such catastrophes. It is
bioterrorism, he emphasizes, and it has the potential to wipe out life
from the planet, in its entirety. After all, he argues, everyone needs
food and if that is poisoned, what could be more devastating?

Bhatt
is not alone in the film. Dr Pushpa Mittra Bhargava, Dr Shiv Chopra, Dr
Devinder Sharma, Jeffrey Smith, Kavitha Kuruganti, Aruna Rodrigues,
activists, farmers, students all join the chorus. Dr Pushpa Bhargava,
founder director Centre for Cellular & Molecular Biology and
Supreme Court nominee to the GEAC, minces no words as he demands a
moratorium on all GM foods till there are irrefutable science based
impartial evidence to prove it is safe.

'The
Genetic Engineering Approval Committee (GEAC) is a rubber stamp and is
sold to the industry,' states Dr Devinder Sharma, food security
analyst, 'If there is a single clause inserted that says that the
Chairman of the GEAC should be imprisoned if GM foods cause health
damage, there would be no GM food in India.'

No
less a person than Sri Sri Ravishankar exhorts the biotech lobby to
refrain from promoting GM food till it is found scientifically safe.
Swami Ramdev is no less severe in criticism. The emerging voice of a
new era of health and well being clearly does not want to have anything
to do with such highly unnatural food.

Harm
from GM food is not a myth, says Bhatt as he portrays the havoc wrought
by the genetically modified food supplement L-Tryptophan on American
Citizen. Jeffrey Smith, author of the highly acclaimed book Genetic
Roulette, recounts it led to scores of deaths and thousands were taken
ill by the time the source of the problem was discovered.

Mr
Smith raises another very pertinent point, 'Are Indians GM free?' The
audience is horrified as he heads to a supermarket in India and points
out food packets containing imported corn and soya, imported from the
USA. More than 70% of these crops are genetically modified in the USA,
he points out. He also talks about Canola and food imported from other
countries where GM food has been allowed.

Mahesh
Bhatt succeeds in retaining the interest of the audience in this short
and yet hard hitting film. The visuals are magnificent, the editing
terse and the comments come from some very serious people who are
extremely worried about the emerging scenario around the vital issue of
food safety and sovereignty. If Al Gore's An Inconvenient Truth opened
the eyes of the world to a catastrophe that has already been set in
motion, Mahesh Bhatt warns consumers about a disaster that can still be
averted.

The
film provides food for thought. It points to a grim future. It informs
that our daily need, food, can now lead to our death, a fact that the
common man interviewed in the film simply refuses to believe. It is
sad, laments Kavitha Kuruganti of Kheti Virasat Mission, that
regulatory authorities who are supposed to protect the citizen are
exposing them to the sordid motives of multinationals.

The
film evoked strong feelings amongst the audience. Sri Saroj Mohanty, a
farmer leader from Sambalpur, explained that the entire issue of
introducing genetically modified seeds is an effort by multinationals
to take the control of agriculture by ending the self reliance of
farmers. The process of deskilling and displacing farmers has been
started by the Green Revolution and the Gene Revolution seeks to
totally eliminate the role of the individual farmer and hand over
agriculture on a platter to corporates.

They started off with contract farming, the new agriculture policy,
and now in the name of increasing productivity, are introducing GM
seeds that will make the farmers totally dependant upon select
multinationals. Does this technology address the inherent problems of
agriculture? Does it seek to solve the problems created by the Green
Revolution that has destroyed the fertility of the soil and played
havoc with the ecology? Or is it simply about patenting seeds and
taking control over the entire food chain? asks Sri Mohanty.

Sri
D Narayan, organic farmer from Ganjam, detailed how moving forward to
sustainable and eco friendly methods was benefiting him. He narrated
that farmers are enchanted by the advances in organic farming and
are taking to it in large numbers. He expressed surprise that the
government is turning a blind eye to such positive developments and
instead promoting hazardous  genetically modified crops like Bt Cotton
which has resulted in loss of soil fertility, decreased yield and,
contrary to claims that such crops would control pests, has resulted in
increased pest attacks.

Activists
narrated the plight of farmers who had been goaded into taking up the
illegal cultivation of Bt Cotton in the cotton growing districts of
Orissa. They hoped that after seeing the film the policy makers of the
state would think twice about playing with the lives and health of the
consumers and the livelihoods of the small and marginal farmers who are
the majority in the state of Orissa. They decried attempts to introduce
the first GM food crop, Bt Brinjal into the state paying scant regard
to biosafety and health concerns.

The film launch has been jointly organised by UNCAGE, Orissa, Coalition for a GM Free India and Hamara Beej Abhiyan.

You
should watch this film if you value the safety of your food, your
health and your life. You cannot afford to ignore the clear and present
danger Mahesh Bhatt warns about in this film.

Do not miss it. Do not let the poison get into your platter.

For your own health..Do read this…and let others know the FACT..

Friends stay away from most dangerous Genetically Engineered foods that is being sold in many Shopping Malls and also in local market throughout INDIA.

Documented
Health Risks of Genetically Engineered Foods

Bhubaneswar: At a meeting Convened at the Conference Hall
of IMAGE, Jeffrey M Smith, renowned author of three bestselling books on the
health risks of genetically engineered food, cautioned the Orissa government
against allowing the commercial production of genetically engineered crops
particularly Bt Brinjal which is poised to be sanctioned very soon. Even field
trials of genetically engineered crops can result in cross pollination and
cause contamination by releasing the inserted gene into the environment and
into other associated crops, he informed, appealing to the government to go in
for confined tests instead.

Jeffrey Smith who is in Bhubaneswar to attend the launch
of the Indian edition of his widely acclaimed book, “Genetic Roulette, The
Documented Health Risks of Genetically Engineered food”, said he has
lectured to various audiences in 30 countries and had interacted with expert
scientists for thirteen years to fully comprehend and document 65 health risks
as brought out by studies conducted by scientists and evidences collected from
across the globe.

He pointed out how Bt Cotton has adversely affected the
health of farmers and resulted in deaths of cattle, sheep and goats in the
states where it has been permitted. He wondered how the illegal cultivation of
Bt Cotton in Orissa has been allowed to go on without any monitoring and
research to gauze the fallout. He said he was certain that the entire cotton
crop of the state has been contaminated. This crop would also result in health
risks to the general public as cotton seed oil forms a part of most cooking
oils that are regularly consumed.

Among the scientific studies cited were studies on rats
that brought out serious organ disorders, high infant mortality, changes in
intestinal gut flora and deaths. The only human study ever conducted revealed
that inserted genes are getting transferred to intestinal bacteria.

An independent study conducted by the Deccan Development
Society in India
has revealed symptoms of reduced food intake, swollen lips, frothy salivation,
nasal discharge, bulging of head and deaths within 25 to 30 days of continuous
Bt Cotton fodder consumption. Similarly in the state of Haryana a study has
revealed that buffaloes suffered prolapsed uterus, premature deliveries,
abortions, reduction in milk output and fat content, change in taste of milk,
and sudden deaths after being fed Bt Cotton fodder and oil seed cakes for a
regular period.

Post mortems on dead animals has revealed holes in lungs
and change in colour of internal organs. The Andhra Pradesh Animal Husbandry
Department has official acknowledged such effects. What is most dangerous,
Smith pointed out, is that there is undigested food in the rumen indicating
that perhaps rumen bacteria are being killed by the Bt toxin. The Bt toxin,
dangerous in itself, becomes 1000 times more toxic during the genetic
engineering process. This toxin has never been approved for mammalian
consumption!

Jeffrey Smith cautioned against the consumption of food
products imported from USA
and a few other countries that were growing genetically engineered crops. He
said that consuming genetically modified corn, Soya, canola, rape seed
containing products imported from the USA
and GM papaya from Hawaii
could be dangerous. The fact that the proposed “GMO Free” labeling
for food products is being resisted by governments makes it very difficult for
consumers to know whether the food they are consuming is safe to eat.

Scientists from the OUAT, Veterinary Surgeons of the Orissa Veterinary
College
, doctors and
senior policy makers have expressed great concern and displeasure with the
inadequate nature of the bio safety studies conducted by the seed companies
which are the only studies that are being considered by the Government of India
to approve such crops.

Jeffrey Smith pointed out that Dr Pushpa Bhargava, Supreme
Court appointed nominee to oversee the manner of approvals by the GEAC, has
expressed displeasure at the way the approvals have been granted. According to
Dr Pushpa Bhargava, renowned molecular biologist, less than 10% of the required
studies have been done and even these studies have not been done in a proper
manner. Not a single adverse event has been considered.

Smith informed that Dr Bhargava has devised a protocol
that includes a laboratory being set up in India for testing genetically
engineered food and crops. These crops, according to Dr Bhargava, are being
commercially released 20 years too soon without having adequate knowledge or
technology to ensure that the intended effects occur and the foods are safe for
human consumption.

The Government of Orissa has requested Jeffrey Smith to
interact with Dr Bhargava and explore the possibility of carrying out the tests
recommended by the molecular biologist in Orissa itself at a meeting where Mr.
Smith expressed his happiness that the Chief Minister of Orissa, a nature
lover, has pledged not to allow Bt Brinjal into the state. He informed senior
officials that the Government of Orissa should protest the decision of the
Centre to impose legislation that would take away the decision making power of
states with regard to agriculture and thus pave the way for introduction of
genetically engineered food and crops  into the state.

Senior Agriculture Officials of the State have assured
Jeffrey Smith that the Government is in no mood to allow the entry of GM food
crops into Orissa but there is always the possibility of illegal cultivation as
farmers, longing for a greater income, fall a prey to the promises made by seed
sellers. The same thing has happened with Bt Cotton in Orissa. In such a case,
said Dr Smith, the consumers in Orissa have to give up eating brinjal as it
would be very difficult for the consumer to distinguish between natural brinjal
and its genetically engineered version.

Jeffrey Smith has given us very good insight into the
probable risks associated with genetically engineered food and crops, opined a
senior scientist of the state under conditions of anonymity. We sincerely hope
that the Government of Orissa will do rigorous, unbiased independent scientific
research under the guidance of Dr Pushpa Bhargava so as to protect the health
of all living beings and the environment and also share the findings of such
studies with the public. Bt Cotton has already shown its dark side in Orissa by
rendering the soil infertile and causing allergies in human beings. Cattle in
the districts where Bt Cotton is being grown illegally are dying mysteriously
in large numbers. “Bt Brinjal should definitely be banned in India,”
said a very senior official of the agriculture department of Orissa during his
interaction with Jeffrey Smith.

Bio-Technically developed Brinjal are not SAFE for Human Consuption.

To

Sri Naveen Pattnaik,

Hon’ble Chief Minister,

Govt of Orissa

Bhubaneswar.

DT: 12.01.09

Sub: Introduction of Bt Brinjal into OrissaLatest French University Study says Bt Brinjal is Unsafe for Human Consumption.

Respected Sir,

Please accept our best wishes for the New Year.

This
has reference to media reports that convey Bt Brinjal, a Genetically
Modified (GM) crop, will undergo field trials in Orissa prior to its
approval for commercial cultivation. We have on earlier occasions
appraised your good self about the various independent as well as
government studies that have pointed out severe health hazards of GM
food.

The
tests have proved that mice fed on GM food have suffered sterility,
high infant mortality rates, stunted growth, stomach and intestinal
lesions, liver and kidney damage, organ damage at the cellular level,
internal bleeding amongst others. In India cattle fed on Bt Cotton
fodder and oil cakes have suffered from infertility, reduced milk
yield, bloody dysentery, excessive salivation, bloated stomachs, and
have also died very painful deaths. Other domestic animals like sheep
and goats have died in very large numbers after grazing on Bt Cotton
harvesting fields all over the country.

The Bt Brinjal will carry the same inserted Bt gene as Bt Cotton.
This uncomfortable truth and the results of studies on mice make us
very anxious as to the consequences of human consumption of this GM
food crop. As per the Austrian government study, many of the symptoms
aggravated in the long term, consequences that short-term study will
not be able to detect.

More
recently a French scientific study led by Caen University professor
Gilles-Eric Séralini, a study team of the Committee for Independent
Research and Information on Genetic Engineering has branded Bt Brinjal “unsafe for human consumption”.

The study says eating Bt Brinjal brought down appetite in goats,
altered prothrombin (which helps blood clot) in rabbits and glucose
levels in broiler chickens in its tests. It also induced resistance to
kanamycin, an antibiotic.

The study raised serious doubts on safety data presented by developer Maharashtra Hybrid Seeds Company Ltd (Mahyco) to the government. The
study questioned safety tests conducted by Mahyco, based on which the
government is conducting trials. It said in toxicity tests on insects,
Mahyco used an “improper” toxin. “This could also make these tests not
valid,” it informed.

Genetic Modification of plants has also alarmed medical practitioners worldwide
who depend on the plant kingdom as a dependable source for a majority
of the medicines they prescribe for various common and critical
ailments. The widespread contamination with GM crops that has been
observed and recorded wherever such crops have been cultivated will
threaten the biodiversity and interfere with those very basic
characteristics of food and medicinal plants based upon which medicines
are prepared from them.

Eminent
homeopaths of Orissa have pointed out at the recently concluded State
Level Homeopathic Conference, “Through such activity (Genetical
Modification of plants) we are destroying the natural gene pool and
creating new mutations in the natural world resulting in harmful flora
and fauna around us. Widespread introduction of this technology
will result in completely nullifying the whole principle of homeopathy
as most of the drugs in homeopathy are produced from food crops and
medicinal plants. Medicines prepared from genetically modified plants
will not work, as the symptomalogy will have changed. Our entire
Materia Medica would be rendered useless. The whole system of
homeopathy will be jeopardised and will lead to chaos amongst homeopaths
.”

In
your widely acclaimed book, “The Garden of Life”, you have given a
vivid description of the medicinal plants that are a part of our
national heritage. Genetic Modification poses a real threat to such
plants that are being used for medicinal purpose by all systems of
medicine. The life you have so vividly described in your well
illustrated and meticulously written book is already under threat as
Biotechnology Research Institutes in Kerala have begun research into
such commonly used and essential medicinal plants as Brahmi and
Ashwagandha. Both of these medicinal plants have found mention in your
valuable book.

Our
Hon’ble Union Health Minister, Dr Anbumani Ramadoss, has publicly
protested against the introduction of GM crops after going through
research findings made available to him
. The
regulatory officials seem very concerned about “public health” but do
not find it necessary to consult the Health Ministry on the subject.
They have also said that it is not necessary to educate doctors so that
they can prevent, diagnose and treat the various health problems that
will result from the consumption of GM food and crop
s. Their only
motive seems to introduce this highly controversial and widely
protested food into India at any cost. They also do not mind that the
patents of such seeds will “be held by the seed companies as long as
they wish to.”

Dr
Pushpa Bhargava, appointed by the Supreme Court to look into the
regulatory process resorted by the Genetic Engineering Approval
Committee, has come across gross irregularities. He has decried the
method of approval that relies solely on the “summary results”
presented by the seed manufacturers. He has called for a moratorium so
that the country can build up the required infrastructure to test such
food, and monitor and protect human, animal health and biodiversity.

We
have been witness to eminent scientists of Orissa desperately opposing
GM food crops for adverse effected noted by them during laboratory
tests in the Biju Pattnaik Hall of the OUAT where a workshop on “Management and Monitoring of Field Trials of Genetically Engineered Crops” was
held on the 3rd January’09. Veterinary surgeons have questioned the
trial results approved the RCGM, GEAC and such other bodies. They have
informed that cattle and goats are suffering and dying in the cotton
cultivation districts of Orissa where large scale illegal cultivation
of Bt Cotton has taken place. Very senior scientific researchers have
warned against the inevitable consequences of widespread GM
contamination.

The
State Agriculture Secretary has personally cautioned against the
introduction of GM crops, even as he was forced to adopt a pro-GM
stance in this workshop sponsored by an organization formed to promote
GM food and crops in the country
. In response a senior DBT official
referred to these eminent personalities as “donkeys” just because they
dared protest “scientific procedures”. We are enclosing a minutes of
the meeting that has been prepared by us after attending the aforesaid
meeting. We would request you to kindly go through it before deciding to introduce Bt Brinjal into Orissa.

We
strongly protest the highhanded methods that are being adopted by the
officials of the regulatory bodies to suppress the loud voice of
dissent emanating from respected Indian scientists all over the
country. As GM food crops like Bt Brinjal will be consumed by one
and all such coercive methods, which lack a proper scientific approach
and transparency, should not be resorted to in a democratic country
like India.

We
earnestly appeal to your goodself to kindly intervene and stop the
poisoning of brinjal, the favourite food of the Oriya’s in its many
preparations and which is consumed daily
. The
lack of labelling which is an impossibility as confessed by the
regulatory regime will force the population to entirely boycott this
crop leading to loss of livelihood of the growers, distributors,
stockists and retailers of this profitable food crop.

We are sure we do not want such a scenario to emerge.

Respectfully yours,

The same friend has sent me this also, which shows that BT Brinjal is not safe for Human consuption, the question arises here is “why are we after such technology which ruins us internally, physically, financially, psychologically and takes on us completely. I would request all concerns to stage a mass revolution irrespective of cast and creed and STATE to stop using this technology.

OPV Paralising Children…..How safe is this immunisation?

ToSri Naveen Patnaik,
Hon’ble Chief Minister
Orissa.

DT: 12.01.2009

Sub: Jana Swasthya Abhiyan Reveals 1,28,375 children affected by AFP since introduction of OPV into India.

Respected Sir,

Please accept my pranam and best wishes for a very happy new year.

The
figure of children adversely affected by the Oral Polio Vaccine (OPV),
provided by the Jana Swasthya Abhiyan and reproduced below, is only up
to 2006.
Subsequently the OPV1 was unethically introduced into
India and experimented on Indian children. As per senior doctors of the
IMA who have privately confided in me, the
OPV1 has increased the rate of AFP cases by up to five times. We could
easily have more than two lakh official cases in India.

Unofficially,
as per a Telegraph report in 2006, the cases up to that year were
3,00,000. I doubt even this figure. The real incidence should be much higher. Polio is not just cases of
paralysis of the limbs or AFP. It is also aseptic meningitis, cerebral
palsy, Guillain Barre Syndrome, Coxsackie Virus. All the statistics must be combined.

Again, we really do
not know how the OPV, administered orally, is doing to the intestinal health of
infants. Dr Pushpa Bhargava has told me personally that we do not know enough about intestinal
immunity to trust the OPV.

The OPV, which consists of a live virus, is inducing the disease in the children. All the adverse effects of the vaccine should be considered as polio and compensated. Even a person who handles the diapers of a freshly inoculated child is at risk.

There are 60 carcinogenic viruses in the monkey
serum used in OPV which have been identified so far before the research project was aborter for ‘the greater good’. The Simian
Immunodeficiency Virus (SIV) that is almost exactly similar to the HIV
that causes AIDS in humans also was transferred to humans via the OPV
and the Small Pox vaccine.

We
do not know how many have been killed by the vaccine. Medical records
are ‘kept free’ of such incidences so that the public is not ‘unduly
alarmed’.

The
OPV causes diarrhoea. The Rotavirus vaccine (another very controversial
vaccine) is being offered in India as a solution to the increase in
cases of diarrhoea. Do we now have a vaccine that is actually preying
on the damage caused by another vaccine to promote itself? There are a
lot of questions to be answered.

I
do not understand how the medical establishment
prefers to keep quiet. In Orissa people are threatened by the
administration if they do not allow their children or grandchildren to
be administered the OPV. Recently the Government of India has gagged
the press and warned them not to report OPV adverse effects. People
working to protect children are being openly threatened with dire
consequences. There is a doctor couple in Orissa who have lost a child
to the OPV and the other is paralysed waist down. They are too scared
to complain!! This shows how barbaric the campaign has been in this
avowedly democratic country of ours.

What are we doing? Are we not jeopardising
our entire future? Are we not helping the country to disintegrate? We have exposed the children of this country
to horrible risks.

We need to identify the children and
find out lawyers who will fight their cases. We demand for Rs.
20,00,000 per child victim and not the paltry 2 lakhs that a court has recently
awarded to the parents of a child killed by the OPV, that too after a potracted litigation of 10 long years.

We
should also remember that the IPV, which is being projected as a
solution to this grim scenario carries similar risks. It is behind all
the polio cases in the USA today. It also causes the dreaded Guillain
Barre Syndrome and has the same set of simian viruses that the OPV
contains. Officials in the US have conceded that the carcinogenic
simian viruses continue to be in the polio vaccines.

I do not
have words to condemn the entire episode. The medical community is
crying for protection and have been provided the same whereas it is the
patients who need to be protected from them.

I would sincerely
request you to kindly ensure that the OPV is immediately discontinued
and a drive to identify the children affected by the OPV is initiated
so that they may be suitably compensated. Instead of depending upon
medical records a fact finding team consisting of ethical doctors and
public representatives must be entrusted with this job. We owe it to
the children of this state of ours.

A friend of mine has sent me this. Which is definitely sarcastic. Let’s hope that the Orissa Govt will do the needful at the earliest.

I request all concern to appeal to the Government to look into this matter and act immediately.
