Perfect First Shot

We gathered as a team in one school to play a friendly basketball tournament. We looked perfect with our navy blue t-shirts and white skirts. There were few boys and girls gathered around the basketball court to cheer up the basketball team players. Our team had 10 members headed by our coach (my dad's student & family friend) and my mom (Games teacher). Fortunately my dad was the referee of that particular match.

Before starting the Basketball game

Coach ' "Hi Girls! You girls are going to be the main five. You 3 take up the defense position and the other 2 girls take up the offense position".

I wasn't in that main list.

He drew the basketball court in his scribbling pad and started to show the main five players how to take up their respective positions and tackle the opponent team. His actions were similar to Laker's team coach in NBA.

His stunning actions ' Clapping, whistling and scribbling on the paper! I liked the way he asks for "Time Out" & "Man Change" in a professional way. My coach doesn't speak much. We used to call him "Mr. Action King" in his absence. He had few girl fans following him in our School and that's another story. : ) I would say that he was the most popular young chap in our school those days. I know once he had to bunk his college just because we had zonal tournament on that day. In short, he's very sincere and hardworking guy.

Time to play

My dad started the game. Our coach was standing and shouting ' "hey you, run fast, move that side, cover that man, take your position, dribble fast man, pass the ball to her, convert it" At one point he had to yell at the girls because one girl missed the shot and few free throws. First half was over. Opponent team was leading.

I entered the court in the second half of that match. My mom at one end and the coach at the other end shouting come on shoot! I missed one shot and my Coach got wild at me. When I was dribbling the ball to reach the opponent team’s shooting area, one player hit me with her elbow and I fell down. My dad blew the whistle and showed the foul signal. My dad gave the right judgment. I thought my coach would ask for "Time out or Man change". Unfortunately, he didn't. But he encouraged me to play. Second time I took the ball from the opponent player and tried to shoot from three-point area. Alas! That shot was missed. My coach got angry and said "Do you have any sense?" I know I shouldn't have tried that shot. I felt discouraged because he scolded me in front of my parents. However, I didn't give up. I told myself, "Time to prove myself". I played really hard. Somehow I managed to take control over the ball and start to dribble very fast. There were none in the shooting area, which paved a way for me to chuck the ball into the net. That was a perfect shot and my first shot too! I was so happy. This time I really made it!!! My coach came inside the court and shook his hands. I could see a big smile on his face. He was so proud of me. Mom smiled at the other end while dad didn't show any facial expression, as he was the referee. Finally, we won that match.

My coach said, "I couldn't believe that you did it!" I just smiled at him.

I left that basketball court with lot of confidence. Very first time I knew that I could achieve what I want in life.

I learnt this attitude that day ' "Don't easily give up at any point, Just fight for it."

Question About Love Marriage

I asked my dad “What do you say about love marriage? Is it bad getting married that way?” Dad knew that I was still in my 11th standard trying to find an unexplained answer. He politely replied, “There is nothing wrong in that Sweety”. He added, “You need to do your higher studies and then get a job. This is not the right time for you to think all this. Study hard and reach at the top in your career”. Dad’s answer convinced me a lot and I was relieved from the tricky question that was asked by my friends in the school. I went back to school happily and told them what my dad had said. I did follow my dad’s words like a Bible. He is “The Perfect Role Model” in my life!

My Long Sleep Ever!!

Whenever I used to get cough in my school days, my mom gave me Benadryl cough syrup. She gave just one spoon and I liked the taste very much. I started tasting it quite often as soon as I come from school. Infact, I used to wait for the chance to taste it when no one was around. My list had Horlicks, Ghee mixed with sugar and Benadryl. One fine day, I started taking one spoon, then two and finally I completed the whole bottle. It was really tasty. :) After a while, I felt the wooziness and went to sleep. Thanks for the Benadryl for taking me to the dreamland. Soon my parents noticed that my sleep was very unusual. I was in my wonderland from morning until around 9:30 PM. They sensed that something really went wrong with me. They tried to wake me up and didn’t succeed. The bottle in the table gave them the key for my long sleep. At last I woke up and asked the typical filmy style question -
Where am I??”
