Hobby less world!!!

I often find that people lack any absorbing hobbies nowadays.  My hobby is interacting with people, playing synthesizer, reading English books and magazines, creative writing, and stamp and coin collection.

Not only we need work to live our lives, we also need something beyond work….an absorbing hobby!

It can be anything from reading literature to drawing and painting, playing musical instruments.  Some peoples passion of hobbies are worth appreciating.

I have been playing synthesizer since I was in class 2.  I took tuition under the guidance of Tarak Roy and later I was taught by the reputed musician V. Balsara.  I love playing and love to play in front of my visitors.  I never thought music will be my bread and butter! But I took it as an absorbing hobby.  It became my friend when I felt depressed!!!

Stamp collection and coin collection came when I was doing my graduation in anthropology in Bangabasi College.  I collected old coins whose price is low and I also collected old tickets of buses.  I love the past and love to preserve it for the future to see!!!

Creative writing is something that comes spontaneously to me and I write often when I feel bored.  I love to share my past and present experience.  I love to talk about recent science inventions and also my personal opinions on different topics.

my distance learning experience

I am doing a distance learning course of hospital administration for 1 year in Medvarsity Online Ltd.  The course is on Hospital Administration.  It is a post graduate diploma in Hospital Administration.  The course fee is Rs. 25000.  The fee has been paid in advance with no installments.  I took up a distance learning course as I was working at Infovision Software Pvt. Ltd.  I worked in that company for 2 years.  It was difficult to balance job and work.  In Infovision Software, I used to go to my Tollygunge Office in Kolkata.  Later the office was shifted to Gariahat in Kolkata.  The new office was nice.  The work pressure like any other private firm was quite and I could not manage the work pressure and the pressure of my hospital management.  I kept it secret for the past 9 months.  In the last 3 months, I joined a small company in Picnic Garden in Kolkata.  I worked there for 2-1/2 months.

In my distance learning course, the study materials with course CDs were sent.  The course has been divided into 4 parts i.e. 3 months each.  After the first 3 months, an exam was held online and then again after three months another exam was held.  There were 2 books.  The first book was for 6 months and the second book was for 6 months.  The books were neatly printed with the picture of Apollo Hospitals, Hyderabad on the cover.  The books were nicely written with the topics on general administration on the first 3 months.  Then comes hospital administration as one goes on learning further in the later 2 units.  After each unit, an online exam is held and within 15 days, a candidate is allowed to give the online test.  The results obviously is shown instantaneously and your stand in the students taking the online test.

I got certain advantages after joining the small back office in Picnic Garden.  I found the Apollo Gleneagles Hospital was quite near to the office.  This hospital is located in Eastern Metropolitan Bypass in Kolkata.  The hospital was quite big with a big campus.  I used to go there for my enquiry and from there I took permission letter from the HR manager to do a survey, which was scheduled at the fourth semester.  I did my survey work on Patient Satisfaction at Apollo Gleneagles Clinic in Kolkata.  In this clinic, everybody cooperated with me.  The receptionists were good.  The staffs helped me.  At the end of the report, I needed a certificate from the clinic head and Ms. Indraxi Choudhury gave me the certificate.  She is the Manager Operations of Apollo Clinic in Gariahat. I had previously sent the report as e-mail attachment.  She saw my report and remarked that the data analysis was good.   The survey on the patients was done from 2nd to 8th July 2007.  The survey revealed that most of the patients are satisfied with the service of the clinic at Gariahat.  Some patients were very cooperative, some filled up the formed, some patients answered a few extra questions.  I did my survey and my work.  The life was quite a struggle as I had to juggle job and studies.  I used to go to the clinic and start my survey from 9 a.m. and my survey ends at 11 a.m. after that I went to my office and did my work; I had already told the boss to make adjustments.  In this way, life moved on as usual but suddenly on 6th July heavy rain in Kolkata spoiled my survey.  Before I had already done survey on many patients and one or two days was all I needed to complete the survey and reach a target of 40 patients so that I can analyze my facts.  This report was written down in Microsoft Word.  In the data analysis, charts and graphs were made and graphs were colored.  But I was quite unlucky that color Xerox could not be made.  I had to send the report in black and white.  My father being a professor of English helped me a lot in editing the file on patient satisfaction.  As instructed I sent a soft copy as e-mail attachment and a hard copy.  The hard copy was sent to Hyderabad at the office address of Medvarsity Online Ltd.  As the report was nicely written and neatly typed, I got a A grade from Medvarsity.  I feel proud to have a good grade.  In this part, I faired quite well.  In the online examination, I did as much as I could but due to pressure of a back office, I had not reached the marks I should to get a very good job.  Now it depends on vacancy and my luck.  Probably I will have to go to outside state for a better career in hospitals.

Now I look forward the contact program, which will be held from 30 July to 10 August.  I would like to fair well in this program and create an impression of my respectable trainers there.  In this contact program, the Apollo Hospital trainers will help us know the functioning of their hospital in first hand.  This will be a great experience.  It will help us know how the hospital functions for the patient cure and the way a hospital runs to provide the best healthcare service to the community.

I should advise everybody to pursue studies with jobs if the job is light one.  If it is a government job with little work, only then you can apply for a course in distance learning.  A distance learning course does not mean a light one, as  for example, in this course, I had to sit everyday with books even after a tiring day in office.  I had to take a little rest and study for the exam which was held at the end of every 3 months! As each exam is crucial,  for a better job and a better future! What is more important in a course like hospital management is proper understanding of the patient care and a dissatisfied patient is like a boomerang!! It is like an asteroid which might hit you any time if the service is bad or of poor quality!

It is always advisable to stick to the job. It might sound quite odd as I am saying job satisfaction is something which is not so easy!! After 2 years of hard work in 3 shifts in Infovision Software Pvt. Ltd., I had learnt that:

  1. One must love his work and do it dutifully.
  2. If a person leaves office suddenly, there is an economic loss.
  3. He loses provident fund savings.
  4. A person who proposes a good job to the experienced person may not be telling the truth!
  5. It is always advisable to plan and make good enquiries before a job change!
  6. Never run after easy jobs.  No private firms will give u money without hard work! You have to work with the sweat of thy brow and earn well!
  7. Earning is not so easy! It is not like the movies!!!
  8.  Love the work you are doing at present and forget about the complications or difficulties attached to it as in every job you will face some difficulties which might be a thorn in your throat!!!

After reading the above experiences, will you not think for a while before changing a job??????????

I know everyone will and one should not go to a small company for easy job as Easy Job Gives You Little or NO MONEY!!!!!

The future of my hospital management studies is that I have to apply for jobs in different hospitals and then I have to wait for the response.  As I have seen the response for general jobs are almost NIL.

Everybody wants experienced people but from where will this experience come?????? Will it drop from heaven? This is the million dollar question!!!!!

So it is better if we search our soul and find the right path for our survival!  It will be better to make us happy so that we can make other people anyway our family and friends happy!! Happiness comes after a reward! It comes when we work hard and see the reward in hand! It makes us smile! It makes us feel relaxed and makes us anxiety and tension free!!!!!

fingerprinting-diet, sex and race determination!

In a crime scene, the detectives come and take some objects and send them for fingerprint tests.  Fingerprints of the family members and suspected persons are taken and analyzed to hit the person who committed the crime.  But there are certain disadvantages in this conventional method of crime detection. The powder, liquids and vapours can alter the prints and erase the valuable evidence.  It also includes traces of chemicals that might be in the prints.

The researchers have developed a tape made from gelatin that will help them know the diet, gender and race of the suspect.  The gel tape can gather fingerprints from door handles, mug handles, curved glass, and computer screens.  The gelatin is then irradiated with infrared rays inside a highly sensitive instrument. This instrument takes a kind of "chemical photograph."  This process of identification takes less than 30 seconds.  This wonderful discovery has been done in Imperial College of London by a physical chemist called Sergei Kazarian.

It is surprising to note that fingerprints contain a few millionth of a gram of fluid which is equivalent to a grain of sand.  But the researchers at the Imperial College, London assert that it is enough to determine the gender, race, diet and lifestyle of the suspect.

It has been found as males have greater amounts of urea in their fingerprints, the race will be easily identified.  The complex brew of organic chemicals will throw light on age and race of people.  It will also hold traces of items people come in contact with.

night time activities makes u antisocial

We often stay awake at night for studies.  Nowadays we have to stay awake as the back office workers have night shift duties for one or two weeks every month.  Young people stay awake at night for chatting.  Sometimes we often come across work pressures when we have to stay awake at night to complete our tasks.  We often carry our work from office to home for their completion at their scheduled time.

A new study reveals that night-time activities might be the reason for antisocial behavior in adolescence.  It has been found to be in children as early as eight years old.  It has been found that those who go to bed late becomes antisocial.  These children do not want to wake up early.  In Pennsylvania State University, Elizabeth J. Susman finds that those who go to sleep late at night have lack of sleep.  As a result, these children suffer from problems such as lack of control and attention regulation.  The scientist finds that it is associated with antisocial behavior and substance abuse.  These studies have been done on 111 subjects.  The age group of the children taken by the researchers has been 8 to 13 years old.

The scientists noted also the cortisol levels from the morning to afternoon and noted the age at which the subjects reach puberty.  The researchers found a number of factors related to antisocial behavior.  The researchers took the factor where the boys were more rule-breaking than their peers.  This wonderful research finding has been published in the Developmental Psychology journal.
