Nataraj Circus

Today is Sunday..a pure fun day!!  I went to see the circus called Nataraj Circus.  The circus is wonderful and I got to see the show that lasted for 2 and half hours.  It was in our Talapark.  The circus was based in Kerala.  The circus had shows at 2 p.m., 4 p.m. and 7 a.m.  I was quite happy to see the funny clowns and the wonderful trapeze shows and elephants playing cricket.

The show started with balancing acts by a girl followed by a group of girls in a revolving table.  The show had young performers and a large number of boys are performing and assisting the performers.

Shows with The Dog:  The dogs are passing through the ring, they are balancing over each other and moving with the wheel.  They are moving on 2 legs instead of 4.

Shows with The Elephant:  The elephant can identify numbers.  The instructor asked the audience to tell numbers and the elephant is picking up numbers.  The elephant did some acting.  One laid down and pretended to be sick and the other with spectacle and stethoscope came to the sick one and put the stethos like the doctor and that acting to tell you the truth was great!!!

Shows with The Girls:  A girl stood over rope and was putting cups over her head with her legs.  She put 7 to 8 cups over her head.

A group of girls in a revolving table posed one over the other and in different poses of like Lord Nataraj and it was wonderful and fascinating to see them perform.

Girls with bicycles, here some healthy looking girls are taken and each show accompanied by music making it more charming and soothing to the audience.  The girls first posed in the following ways:

  1. Cycling with one leg.
  2. Posing with the paddle holding it hand.
  3. Sitting on one side, etc.

Girl with World's Smallest Bicycle, here the girl rode the very small cycle with tyres the size of a cake was cycling along the borders of the show area and it was amazing!!

Dare Devil Boy:  Here the boy was playing with fire, spraying fire through the mouth, dancing with fire on the two wrists, passing below fire bars, and girls dancing in front of him.  He has a nice muscular chest and he was looking like any damn good bodybuilder!! Ooooh!!!

Clowns:  Two clowns were there.  One clown was sitting and another was cutting his hair and it made people laugh as the scissors are unusually large!! The clowns entered the trapeze and due to his huge pant of a normal person it fell and the audience laughed!!  The clowns were a major attraction of the show!!

Hippopotamus Walking:  The hippopotamus was walking slowly across the circus area and it was wonderful to see huge mouth of hippo swallowing food and its glossy body shining in the bright lights!!

Trapeze Shows:  Trapeze shows are wonderful and the group of boys started the show and before this show, the area was covered with protective nets.  The boys are jumping from one side to another.  Then the girl jumped from one side and another boy held her.  Trapeze shows is a matter of great timing and the show ended nicely and everybody seemed satisfied!!

The major attraction of the show was beautiful presentation of the trapeze and the balancing act of the girls.  The elephants are wonderful who were playing cricket like Sachin Tendulkar scoring six at ease!!  If they had been at international cricket team, they would have scored more runs and made world record like Brian Lara!

Anyway if Nataraj Circus comes to your city, you will enjoy it.

pleasure and pain of living in india

We are in the bottom of the pyramid in starting business, property registration, closing business, dealing with licences, enforcing contracts and many more.  If you go to a government office, you will see the delay and feel disgusted!!

Still some cities in India are doing better in some services and if they are followed nationwide, we would go up the ladder in terms of best practices.  The cities that are progressing rapidly are:

Starting a business: Jaipur

Delaying with licenses:  Bhubaneshwar.

Registering property:  Hyderabad.

Paying taxes:  Bhubaneshwar and Chandigar.

Trading across borders:  Chennai

Enforcing contracts:  Bhubaneshwar.

Closing a business:  Bangalore.

It has been calculated the number of hours/days it takes to do the following activities in India on an average:

STARTING A BUSINESS:

Procedures:  13

Duration:  33 days.

PROPERTY REGISTRATION:

Procedures:  6.

Duration:  62 days.

CLOSING BUSINESS:

Duration:  10 years.

DEALING WITH LICENCES:

Procedures:  20

Duration:  224 days.

PAYING TAXES:

Payments:  60

Time:  271 hours.

ENFORCING CONTRACTS:

Payments:  46

Time:  1420 hours.

TRADING ACROSS BORDERS:

Time for imports:  21 days.

Document for exports:  8.

Time for exports:  18 days.

So from the above statistics it is clear why many people just move out of this country and settle in USA or UK or somewhere else?? There are some who loves this country and take the reality and manage to live a happy life!

never overcook foods.

We can reduce the risk of ovarian or womb cancer by having a healthy diet.  We should not overcook foods.  European researchers have found a chemical  called acrylamide caused by frying, roasting or grilling can double the chances of cancer in women.  Acrylamide is found in cooked foods such as bread, breakfast, cereals, coffee and also meat, and potatoes roasted, fried, baked, grilled and barbecued.  Janneke Hogervorst of the Maastricht University in Netherlands thinks that this is the first study that links dietary acrylamide intake and human cancer.

comparative study of networking skill of modern and tribal societies

We communicate with our friends around the world with networking sites like MySpace, Facebook etc.  We make friends with people we hardly know in real life.  We protect our real identity with small images representing us.  Researchers are trying to explore the parallel between modern and tribal societies.  The scientists see ancient style of oral communications.  Lance Strate, a communications professor at Forham University thinks that orality is the base of all human experience.  He loves to use MySpace also.  The popularity of social networking has its origin in prehistory.  We evolved with speech more than writing, Mr. Strate adds.

We have different ways of communicating with friends such as:

  1. Blog posts.
  2. Comments.
  3. Home made videos.
  4. An outpouring of epigrammatic oneliners using services like Twitter, Facebook.

Irwin Chen is a design instructor at Parsons.  She is improvising a course to explore the emergence of oral culture online.  Orality is participatory, interactive, communal, and focused on the present.  Father Ong stated "Oral communication unites people in groups."  So oral culture is more than just talking, they are social dynamics at work.  Michael Wesch, a cultural anthropologist at Kansas State University spent two years living with a tribe at Papua New Guinea.  He studied how people forge social relationships in an oral culture.

Even I have studied a tribe called "Kolam" in Maharashtra at Mulgawan District.  The study is based on material culture of the tribe.  The Kolams speak Kolami as well as Gondi language.  The Gonds, being their neighboring tribe, they speak the language and also their mother tongue Kolami.  We studied 2 villages, Mulgawan and Bhimnala.  We are fascinated by their music, their art, etc.  The tribe lives in a hilly area.  There were lot of crops going and the tribe was quite friendly.  Some of them could speak Hindi and so we could communicate easily with them and with others taking the Hindi-speaking members as interpreter.

My graduation in anthropology final year project report was on the Kolam tribe where we took photos and drew the articles used the tribal people.  We spent days with them to complete the projects.  We spent nearly 23 days with them and it was really a fascinating experience.  Every morning we used to visit them and we used to talk with them and  took down notes.  We used to visit the schools where children used to sing and study under the bright blue sky!!  Schools in tribal society are so wonderful, so lovely and so unique that we could never feel in our school-setups in the concrete jungle.

In tribal society, people routinely give each other jewelry, weapons and ritual objects to make their social bonds strong.  In the networking site, Facebook, what do we do? We sent symbolic sock monkeys, disco balls, and hula girls.

In a tribal society, forging social bonds acts as a tool for survival but it is not in case of our favorite networking sites.  We communicate in Orkut, Facebook, Hi5, Sesty, Yahoo 360, etc.  The colorful pages attract our imagination and we try to give the world a wonderful feeling and people get drawn to such people with gorgeous profiles and beautiful profile pictures Its all a world of glamour and hot pics get noticed and get friend requests more.  People love to create fake profiles in networking sites just for fun.  But it might be different in case of primitive contemporary societies.  In social networking site, we log in just to have fun and wipe out the monotony of routined life isn't it???

stem cells repair broken skulls

We now can repair broken skulls by cells from human embryo.  A new technology boasts such a great step!!  Scientists have been able to plug holes in the skull of mice by transplanting the stem cells, which grew into bone tissue.  It has been published in The Daily Telegraph.  Human embryonic stem cells can be used in treatment.  They are immature found in pinhead sized early embryo which are pluripotent.  A pluripotent embryo can develop into any part of the body except egg and sperm.

Now lets understand  how it is done .

The scientists grew the stem cells in a laboratory.  They then derived mesenchymal precursor cells.  It is a more developed cell type giving rise to fat, cartilage, bones, muscles.  They are then seeded into tiny 3D scaffolds and grafted into the mouse skulls.  The scaffolds are made of biodegradable plastic like material and a gritty material called hydroxyappetite.  This hydroxyapetite makes the cells intra-membranous bone tissue, which cements the skull, jaw and collar bone.  This mineral's absence makes the cartilage.

Ten Ways to Start Your Day

I think there are many ways to start your day.  Morning is the time when our mind is fresh as a full bloom flower and anything learned during this time gets into our memory.  Also shocking incidents in the morning can change the work flow of the whole day.  Here are some of the ways to start the day:

1.  Meditation:  Meditation is good for the mind.  We can do our work throughout the day with concentration and we remain stress free during the day.

2.  Jogging:  Jogging is good for the body as it enhances blood circulation and good for the heart.  It also reduces fat and makes the body fit.

3.  Morning Walk:  Morning walk is good for the body but according to latest scientific researches, jogging is better.  Old men cannot jog, so walking is good for them and it is good for the old people who lead a sedentary lifestyle.

4.  Reading important books:  Studies and preparation for exam is good in the morning with a fresh mind but some opine it is good at night before sleep.

5.  Creative writing:  It is an advice to all writers from my side.  Creative writing is best and productive work can be done in the morning effectively as the brain is fresh and works fast in the morning.

6.  Listening to music or playing music:  Music enriches life and it makes you stress free.  So listen to radio for at least half an hour or to FM with headphone, you will be able to understand the rhythm in work throughout the day.

7.  Drinking a glass of water and then do other activities.  This may seem a silly thing to some but a glass of water will rejuvenate you and make you fresh and healthy individual and drinking water at regular intervals throughout the day will make your skin glow!

8.  Yoga:  Yoga is good thing to start the day.  If you do the stretching exercises and the asanas regularly everyday and never forget to give a single day off in a week as it will tax your muscles a lot.  People going to gym will laugh at me! But it is good to do yoga as it acts as a medicine for the body preventing you from harmful diseases and making you a healthier individual not only physiologically but psychologically also.

9.  Eat chocolates:  Eat a piece of chocolate in the morning.  It has been scientifically proven that chocolate elevates mood and makes you happy.  So a chocolate a day makes you happy and instills the "feel good factor" in you.

10.  Take apples or any fruit in the morning.  We all know that an apple a day keeps the doctor away.  Taking a fruit everyday in the morning helps you be a healthy individual.
