The Neanderthals became extinct from this earth 30,000 years ago.  Now a technology has been developed which will help us understand how the Neanderthals used to speak.  It is a computer model developed by Florida Atlantic University.  Robert McCarthy is an anthropologist at Florida Atlantic University.  He used fossils dating back 50,000 years old and reconstructed Neanderthal vocal tracts to imitate their voice.  He opined that the Neanderthal speech lacked quality vocal sounds, which are the basis of modern speech.  Mr. McCarthy pointed out that the quantal vowels offer clues that help people with different vocal size tracts understand one another.  He said this in a meeting held at Columbus, Ohio of the American Association of Physical Anthropologist.  They had spoken differently.  They have not able to produce these vowels, which is the basis of the spoken language.  The researchers modeled the sounds of the Neanderthal vocal pipes.  They engineered the way a Neanderthal would produce the sound of E.   Mr. McCarthy would try to imitate a Neanderthal would speak a full sentence.

Anthropology is the scientific study of man.  We see lot of problems in life and some of them can be solved with the knowledge of anthropology.  We find people face problems and we all experience the number of vehicle is more and pollution is increasing.  Let us try to think of  the solution of the problems in the following way:

1. Bus seat:  Bus seats in private buses are short in width and the seats in the rows have spacing which makes it difficult for a man to sit.  Even two persons cannot comfortably sit.  With the help of anthropometry, we can solve this problem.  We take a survey of the measurements of the people's thigh and their average height, so that the roof of the bus can be of a good height also.
2. Computer related work stress:  The work stress increases when we sit for long hours in front of a computer monitor.  So we need the knowledge here of  the minimum distance our eye should be placed from the computer screen and the antiglare monitor should be used for the back office and IT jobs involving long hours.
3. Slum dwellers and hawkers on the pavement:  The politicians do not want to mess with these people as they know that disturbing them will affect their vote bank.  But here social worker and anthropologist can play role and government can do something by moving them to a place far off the city where there will be no hindrance.  The government should give them jobs of what they are suitable.
4. Eradicating poverty and making people productive.  We need a counseling unit or center at every educational institution.  The primary work of these counselors will be to guide the students to the careers that will suit where they have the aptitude.  It is important for "YOU" to get your right career, otherwise career improvement will be rather too slow to meet your expectations and as a result you will be frustrated.  So the best thing is to chalk out a solution and do the best you can with your set of skills. 
5. Interacting with people at workplace:  The office is a place where a large number of people from different backgrounds come and work together.  Productivity can be increased in the following way:

a)      Identifying the employee's potential, his work capacity, etc.

b)      Solution of the day-to-day problems.

c)      Giving benefits to employees and perks for added productivity.

6.      Television watching and its impact:  Watching television for long hours or in   front of monitor can cause eye strain and neck strain.  It can cause stiffness in the shoulder.  Watching a horror movie has its impact on mind, making mind agitated and  you are unable to sleep.  On the contrary, watching Mr. Bean, a humorous character making you laugh will give you a good sleep.  To tell the truth, I have seen that after watching a humorous movie, I slept well and far better than the other days.  So what you have to do is to see what is good for the mind and "feed" it in that way!

I may have highlighted some of them but you can think and add more and make your life a far better place to live.  Anthropology is a subject which can be studied by all.  You can understand your life better by gaining some knowledge of anthropology just by searching the internet and reading a few good books. 

One fine morning I woke up!  It was my off day.  I  logged in the internet and entered "Youtube."  I listened to some good music of Tagore and some synthesizer tunes and some harmonica and I searched further and listened to some violin tunes.  This makes me chill and feel better!!!  When I  wake up at 4 in the morning, I just listen to the radio.  I have a mobile with radio facility.  I listen to the lovely English tunes and the Bengali tunes.  The Bangla Band tunes, some of them are too westernized and I feel I am listening to the western songs.  I listen to 107.8 Power FM.  The RJ say "0.8 makes all the difference!"  It is true.  Power FM gives you Hindi and English songs you will love to listen.  I think that those who give advertisement in radio get more listeners.  If you think deeply, you will see that listening to something makes you remember more than seeing it.

I often listen to the Western Classical music of Bach, Beethoven, Mozart, Hadyn, Chopin and Vivaldi.  Bach has a style that is quite heavy while Chopin and Vivaldi music are too cool and it soothes your nerves.

It is far better if you listen to the tune and start humming it.  The humming process makes you get involved more with the tune.  When I am going in the bus to my office at Gariahat, I listen to the tunes and hum them along with it I read yesterday's newspaper. 

When I started playing harmonica, I felt that it is quite a difficult instrument.  But as time passed by I felt that it is not a big problem, you can play at ease and you feel so happy when you feel the 'RHYTHM OF MUSIC VIBRATING IN YOUR MIND" and the lovely tunes that makes you "feel good." 

What is the effect of listening to so much music?  Will it affect your hearing ?  You may ask these questions .in reality, it "elevates" your mind and you will see and "I guarantee"  your productivity in office will be more!!!  You will feel that there is little work pressure and you will notice the marked difference. 

You can listen to these music and tell me how they are!!!  Just live with your beloved music and you will see that some music are too good!! Always try to explore new types of music every day!  Expand the area of interest in music! Never be confined with one type, say you love classical, try to explore and you will see that there is fun!!

A person who does his job with person gets appreciation and adored by his superiors and no one can stop his promotion and earning!! 

I have seen people in my office who were simple but it is the hard work that makes all the difference!!  A car needs diesel to drive.  A human being needs food to drive him biologically.  He also needs willpower to get something out of life!  It is important to think and chalk your day in such a way that maximum productivity comes out of it. 

I have seen some people just moving out of office as they have an important family member falling sick and admitted to hospital. It is good to do something for the family.  But I think it should be done without hampering work. 

Because when you are working, you have to think in the following way:

You are working for the company ' Helping the company grow ' The company makes profit and you are getting salary ' Work you are doing affecting the country's economy also .

Sometimes people think that government service is better as there is less work and more leisure.  Many people spoil them time just gossiping but some people utilizes this time for their improvement.  If Albert Einstein had not used his time to write papers while working in the patent office, then probably relativity will not be discovered.  It is important to multitask!!  It is important to utilize time and get the most out of it!

The ways to increase will power:

1. Meditation will help you built up a calm, cool and steady mind.
2. Proper knowledge to channelize your strength.
3. Do SWOT analysis of yourself.
4. See the future of the work you are doing.

This quotation is given by Holbrook Jackson.  This is quite a valued quotation and I have seen people learning medical transcription and doing good job in our office.  I have seen my father doing a job that is helping students far away in America.  I have seen people crossing their national boundaries and reaching new heights by acquiring new set of skills.

It is important to constantly develop new skills.  This is something my father, Swapan Banerjee, says often to me!  Under his guidance, I learnt science journalism, French language, recitation, stenography etc.  He is a guiding light, in fact a light house for me.  My mother also takes care of me and  motivates me a lot!  Parents can be your friends and you can get motivated from the good work they are doing.  My mother was a member of a social organization and she was a member of Oriflame and now she is trying her hands in artworks like embroidery etc.  She is learning new cooking and she can cook well.

In fact the learning process is a continuous process that can help you reach new professions and careers.  I have seen a friend who was a senior editor in our company.  I saw him move to a new company and now as he had acquired a degree in SAP, he will be working in TCS at Sector V, Salt Lake!  That's what I am talking about!  You acquire new sets of skills while working and I have seen people going to USA and elsewhere from simple jobs and you know what drives them to such heights????????  It is "AMBITION!"
