Abundance of Eagle in United States

Since World War II, the number of bald eagles have risen dramatically.  This is as per the report of the Fish and Wildlife Service.  This US department has decided to remove it from the once-enlisted Endangered Species list! By June 29.  The America's National Bird is Bald Eagle.  The presidential seal has a bald eagle in it.  In the lower 48 states, there are 9789 breeding pairs of bald eagles.  Minnesota tops the list with 1312 pairs of white headed birds.

America is watching all over the world with eagle eyes.  It is keeping a watch whether you are creating nuclear plant with the help of sophisticated satellites.  There are spies of United States every where in the world.  It attacked Afghanistan to counter terrorism.  It has attacked Iraq heavily.  US government failed to catch Osama Bin Laden but it caught Saddam Hussein and hanged him.

The America's eagle eyes have become a threat to Korea where there was a fear of the America's attack as it was trying to develop nuclear power.  America is controlling the world and the only weapon it has is its advanced technology.  This technology development is mainly due to the scientists from all over the world.

New Species of Humming Bird

A new species of humming bird have been discovered.  The Gorgetted Puffleg is a rare species of humming bird.  It has a plumage of violet blue and iridescent green decorating its throat.  This bird has been discovered in the forest of Southwestern Columbia.  This species of bird is facing the threat of extinction.  The farmers in this region cultivate cocoa in a slash and burn system.  This cocoa is used in the production of cocaine.  The name puffleg comes due to the presence of a thing like cotton balls in their legs.

In the nature, there are so many species.  We have discovered so many, still you will find that new species gets discovered.  You will see that the human exploitation of nature for wood and cultivation and industrialization is making the species extinct.  Beautiful birds like this species of humming bird is facing the threat of extinction.

Sometimes I see The National Geographic Channel and buy the journals for gaining more knowledge about nature.  I love nature and love to know more about nature.  I feel that birds should be preserved and unnecessary deforestation is forcing nature lose its balance.  A time will come when man's greed for more space to live will force him to lead in an artificial world, in a world of concrete jungles.  I think that humming bird has a beauty and charm that surpasses the colorful parrots and other exotic African birds.

Ramkrishna Mission of Ghatsila, Madhupur and Barrackpore

Today I am going to tell you about the branches of Ramkrishna Mission I visited.  I traveled to Ghatsila, Madhupur and Barrackpore and enjoyed the ambience of this place where religion and education meets.  The setting of Ramkrishna Mission is primarily natural in all places.  The compounds in these three spots are surrounded by trees.  There is a prayer hall and there is a wonderful set up for education to be given at a very low cost.

I should first start with Madhupur.  This is because this is the earliest I visited.  I love traveling and visited this place with my mother and father.  I stayed there for 2 days.  The compound of the mission was surrounded by flowering plants with flowers of different colors adding charm to the place.  I felt as if I have entered another world.  I felt I have entered a mini botanical garden.  During my stay there, I saw the prayers performed in the evening.  I saw the beauty of the evening atmosphere.  The fragrance of incense sticks makes the atmosphere more mystical and charming.  A large number of Santals live this place.  Madhupur is located in the Deoghar District of Jharkhand.  The climate was wonderful.  One day the Maharaj of the Ashram invited the Santals, distributed sarees, offered them lunch and then requested them to dance.  This dance was a spectacular thing to see.  Their song and their dance was the special attraction in the evening.  This evening is something I cannot afford to forget!  I feel lucky being a student of anthropology to see the Santals and enjoying their dance and music.

Now lets go to another place in Jharkhand where I traveled recently.  It is Ghatsila.  The place filled with rocks and where the beauty of Subarnarekha river forces you to take pictures one after another!  You feel great!  You feel happy when you see the sunset behind the mountains far away!!  You feel happy to see the Ramkrishna Mission whose ashram surrounded by trees added charm to the land of Subarnarekha river.  This place has a shrine to worship God where I saw a priest performing puja.  I gave a donation.  I feel great to give donation to Ramkrishna Mission.  I feel that my money is going to a place worth its value!!!  I feel that Ramkrishna Mission provides the right ambience for your prayer to the God.

In this year, 2008, a few weeks ago, I visited Barrackpore Ramkrishna Mission.  The place is wonderful.  It has an atmosphere that is unique.  It is located beside the Ganges.  The soothing breeze of the Ganges makes the place even more charming.  The environment of Barrackpore Cantonment is wonderful.  There is a school within the campus.  My friend Jyoti Prakash Mitra studied this place.  I saw a wonderful botanical garden here.  There is a Gandhi Ghat and the place has a charm.  Think of the summer days when you can sit underneath the trees and meditate for the upliftment of your soul.  The place has a charm which surpasses other places I visited, i.e. Ghatsila and Madhupur.

Thank you for reading my memories of Ramkrishna Mission.  I love Ramkrishna Mission because of the heavenly ambience it provides to its devotees and the students who study in it.  It is a place where you can visit again and again and feel the charm of the place where thousands of people visited and prayed to the God.

Animal Care — Cataract Surgery in Orangutan and other stories

A South African veterinary surgeon performed an operation in the cataract of an Orangutan.  This surgery was done in Malayasia.  It is the world's first cataract surgery.  Animal ophthalmologist Izak Venter performed the operation.  This lasted for 2 hours.  He was assisted by Frik Stegman, a South African anesthetist and S. Amilan, local veterinarian.  The orang utan lived in Matang Wildlife Center in Sarawak state of Borneo.  This orang utan was 19 years old.  Its name is Aman.  It was suffering from severe cataract on both eyes.

Having studied anthropology, I think this operation on the orangutan will help it to live in a better way.  The eye is a vital organ and the loss of it will lead to near total disability.  It gives you the opportunity to see the world full of colors.  It helps you perceive the surroundings and make you aware.  If you provide life to a orangutan by performing a difficult operation, what you are getting is the direct blessing from the God.  You have provided him the way to live life to its fullest.

I think you have seen orangutan in the National Geographic and the Discovery channel.  You have seen it in the zoos.  Its wonderful to see an animal who belongs to the order Primates.  You have seen how much time researchers and doctors spend on the care of these cute animals.  Orangutan is generally quiet animal.  It has long arms and a hairy body covered with brown and black fur.  It lives in the forest and it grooms each other.  This grooming is found in all primates like gorilla, chimpanzee, orangutan and gibbon.

I have seen my Botany sir who lived close to my house.  He loves cat.  There are a large number of cats in his house.  He used to feed them and spend money for his pocket if they have any disease.  He used to consult a doctor (veterinary) for their treatment.  I like this animal care.

I have seen a businessman who lives beside my house.  He is a nice gentleman and deals with cigarettes.  He loves to feed the birds in Tala Park.  There are 2 swans in Tala Park.  He takes some food and offers to those ducks.
