This is a response to your column ’senterfold’.
Admittedly you have a taste in depravity. And a big, bloated ego to go with it. How else do you explain starting this column on the back of some really tacky reviews?
Watching a film/show is one thing, assimilating it another and reproducing half-digested bits, completely different. It is a rare feat to accomplish all of this while retaining the same disgusting efficiency.
What I further marvel at is how easily you have converted to sensibilities completely alien to your obviously Indian roots. And if this miraculous transformation is genuine, then you must be a truly enlightened soul to be also able to review an Abbas-Mastan movie.
Now, before you think, this e-mail comes in response to the horrible ‘end-beginning’ review, I must say No. Film critics are fine. Wannabes are tolerable. But a two-in-one combo, totally unpalatable.
But then who cares in the age of ‘ whatever you write about me, just spell my name right?’
Good review?
Thanks for replying to my questions on my blog. Now that you have, I guess I shall ask you more questions as I read your reviews

Hey Raja Sen, hope all is well.
I have been going on rediff.com for the past 2 years and have often read movie review, including yours. Though I do not agree with most of your reviews, and, unlike many other people on this site who comment, I will honestly say that I respect you and your views quite a bit, simply because through your review I have found you have an immense knowledge of cinema, you sure know your stuff (Y)!
Anyways, I would like to talk with you, about a few of your reviews and just a few general things about life, if you want obviously. Speaking about reviews, I just joined this rediffiland thing today so dont know a whole lot about it, but say if wanted to, where exactly could I write my own reviews or views about movies etc.?

Hi Raja…that’s really great! Congrats on your short film too. Lot of members of PFC- PassionForCinema.com there- Sudhir Mishra, Anurag Kashyap, Sourabh Narang etc- great! I am also a member on PFc, though haven’t written there for some time now- busy with college admissions n all! And met Vishal Bhardwaj a month or so back in school…I still can’t stop smiling whenever I see my VB autographed copy of Pulp Fiction! BTW, saw the movie recently- mindblowin stuff man- what dialogue, what direction, what acting and what sheer brilliance, man! Also saw Wong Kar-Wai’s In the Mood For Love- awesomely poignant and lyrical- an absolute masterpiece. Looking fwd to My Blueberry Nights which opens Cannes this year…and Norah Jones!

I am a movie buff and I always thought no one loves movies more than I do and noone understands cinema as much as I do. Arrogance, hmm may be. I still believe that I am the greatest film director who has ever walked on this earth, who could not make a movie.
But when I read you take on movies, I am glad to admit I am a serious competition. I can understand your love for cinema and the frustration you have to go through when watching the Indian movies crap ( I love my country etc. but I have to be honest)
I totally and absolutely suppport you the way you put the ‘Vivah’ to trash. I thought reading your review was more fun than watching the movie itself. Though I think you went a bit overboard; but you are allowed at time.

Brokeback Mountain is a well crafted movie that was worth the nomination. However I am glad that Crash got the award. For two straight actors ? the portrayal was so real. Hi Raja, I’ve been a regular in this blog but this is the first time I’m leaving a message. I’ve been eagerly awaiting the release of Brokeback Mountain in India (Hyderabad to be precise). PVR Cinema has been promoting the Oscar movies for last few weeks. They showed the trailer of Brokeback, had its posters up announcing the release on the 10th of March. Then all of a sudden all promotional materials have been pulled back and the PVR staff pretends that they’ve never even heard of the movie! Has Brokeback been officially realesed in India?? Or is this another one of those “sorry no gay movies, we’re Indians” case?
