Resuming with the train experience - last Feb I boarded a train and on the way we found train became late by an hour, but all people reacted like there is no fuss! it will make it up ultimately. There is the need of attitude, when we will realize that if train is late then all people who are travelling got stuck for an hour and that is a big loss. It can never happen in developed countries, because people there are very cautious about time. In Japan the train delay is escalated, they do several meetings/analysis to find the cause and again they have to pay fine of 100,000 Yen/Min (Rs 40,000). We are lacking of such system. We have never thought of such system because we think few minutes delay is not a big deal.
Another example is the roads in our small cities. From my own experience I am telling you they never built concrete road. In my town every couple of years they build road, but that is washed away. Once I asked one contractor, why people do not build proper roads? and jokingly he replied “If they build good road then there would be no contract next year!”. And later I felt at some point his joke is true. And this is the scenario where we loose more money on repairing again and again.
Tell me at how many places we have dustbins? Government builds very good complexes but they forget to put dustbins at right places. Even if it is placed, it is hardly cleaned regularly some are not cleaned ever. From the cost perspective they avoid to put many more dustbins, but indirectly we are paying more. First it pollutes the environment, and lastly people pay the price at hospitals. Even if government places dustbins people will forget to use it, even if people use it, the responsible person will forget to clean it. This is happening because every one cheats in his own work. We never mind if someone comes late to office, we often consider a 30 minutes delay is normal.
I am not saying India is not improving, but our pace is too slow, we lack attitude. Irrespective of the investments by government we people can do lot more to accelerate the progress. I see there are many spaces of improvement and that could be done without any Rs investment, that can be done with the mind-set, attitude of people. In my view change in attitude is very much required along with the infrastructure and other things for a better life. Though it is known to everyone, still I felt I need to blog it. Comments are welcome.
Thank You,
Subhransu

Well Suhranshu, whatever you”ve said is asolutely correct- i agree. The point you r missing is that we are on a path of development-we still have a long way to go.
THIS IS THE BEST BLOG EVER
PLEASE KEEP WRITING ,TAKE CARE
AND I HOPE THE ATTITUDE OF OUR PEOPLE CHANGES
I HOPE I CAN CORRECT MYSELF AND OTHERS AROUND ME
well said my friend..after 100 years also people say “india is developing country”..we never going to hear “india is a developed country”..becoz there r somany block holes in the system..
what we lack is not attitude… what we lack is the attitude that there are no lousy jobs… & that we must put forth our best efforts & no less in anything we do
we are not proud of India…
well said…well said…but about train scenario i do not agree with for many of us get so frustrated or loose a lot if a train comes late most of us know its wrong we utilize roads daily we are experiencing the pain daily,we are often ridiculed if we take garbage to dustbins…lot of us have initially tried but we later succom to this…we are living in frustration ,we want things to change but we adopt an attitude what can we do??..and we just move on,its our nature to please the society, if our friends ridicule us for acting pro-India we do not courage to stand up to them, there is something called society and its norm kindly visit first blog for understanding it.one of the reason India is not developing is because we are not able to break the norm, something that was invented by our ancestors but has an iron claw on society that prevents it from changing and lack of basic needs(money) further tightens this grip
Yeah, blogging, I think, is one of the most effective ways that can bring about the change in attitudes you are talking about.
Hi Subhranshu, every word of what have you written is right….yes people lack attitude, they have tremendous tolerance where it should not be….but problems are so deep rooted, if you start fighting against the system, you will end up with frustration and depression….Yes, change in attitude….but people prefer easy way out…check out my blog soon to be out!!…..Well, your post is definitely thought provoking, Congrats!…Keep writing!
I agreee with Inder Vig… also as stated in the post…. if perfection is there, then there will be no new contracts in the next year/
i cant change any body ,me can change my self only
All is part of the well thought of long term plannings ,,,,,,,,,heheee elections costs and every party need money for that
u r true, our pace is very slow, and the biggest reason for this is the adjustable attitude of Indians. There are people who want to speak up but they are silenced by thier own family, friends because nw all this is the part of life. We need to change our attitude.
well one thing, you were lucky that train was just one hour late, in Indian railways delay of one hour is nothing.
there is a need to inculcate discipline in our life and in this process the young parents can play major role by generating strong discipline in future generation.
i think some narrow minded people are breaker in progress, thinking style of indian people are changing, india is the high population city and it will take more time, but no doubt it is shining
