"Robotics" what a glamorous ring this innocuous looking word carries with it! And it was this very ring that sounded in our eager minds when LEVEL3 robotics was announced as the event in TECHNOVANZA'06. And it was this very ring that urged us to scan website after website on "how to build Robots"
We felt like those sacred engineers in those sci-fi movies, as we oogled at pages with pics of robo cars using cutting edge technology! Our egos swelled. It did not take us long to realize that to employ even a mite of this technology our wallets needed to be swollen too. And so began the cost cutting. Finally we settled down for a decent looking automobile that our slim pockets could support & our limited capabilities endure.
Piece-by-piece the chasis become a reality. We rejoiced! Unbelievable as it may seem, we had surmounted the disabilities associated with being "degree engineer" when asked to work with his hands and not just on paper. The ckt was ultimately assembled.
Ebullient now, we began to burn the microcontroller. Burn we did & in what a way! Burn it did & literally! Only we shouldn't have done it by tossing it into the fire. It smoked away & with it fantasies of ever making it to Silicon Valley.
What took the cake in bugging us though, was the debugging. Were we really expected to find out exactly which pins were shorted every time the ckt didn't work? Assembling had been (atleast comparatively) a piece of cake but debugging was like looking for a needle in a haystack . and why the hell did that LED keep blinking at us?
We have now to begun to resemble tramps, what with disheveled hair, unshaved faces, bloodshot eyes after innumerable "sleep" overs and never ending excursions to lamington. Surprisingly enough our robot car looks well on its way to success. Just when we thought all was over all the motors began whirring in sync. Maybe one of the loose hairs from our beards had shorted the right pins. And the wheel alignments look pretty good too. We are guessing that one of our numerous thuds leveled them in place!
Whatever it is our car is all set to roll tomorrow. How wouldn't it ? WE have made it!!!

The excitement across the campus on the eve of technovanza is palpable. It doesn’t take an expert to know when a college festival is approaching.
The crowd is buzzing with enthusiasm…Technovanza is finally here. The energy of the students is contagious. The tent is up, the tracks for Formula 1 and all the other robotics events are ready, banners are being put up all over college and books…well they’re no where in sight. A campus full of people and loads of activities to paticipate in await us. The next three days are going to be so fun-filled, its good we all have so much work to do, it would be plain torture to see the hours crawling by, waiting for tomorrow.

Are you bursting with ideas but need a platform to express them?
Can you solve problems with out-of-the-box thinking?
Then Technovanza'06, V.J.T.I.'s technical fest is the place to be!
ISP ' Innovative Solutions to Problems is a presentation event at Technovanza '06, which lets you do just that ' be innovative! The participants are given a number of real-life situations/problems where there is scope for innovation. The participant should then provide an innovative but practicable solution for any one of these problems.
The problems cover a wide variety of issues ranging from largely urban problems like urban drainage to rural problems like electricity distribution. Many of the problems are associated with the 'Save Mumbai' theme. A case in point is security at railway stations. So people who think they can do better than the authorities in tackling these problems can suggest radical new solutions.
This is your chance to ease the world's woes and who knows you might end up putting your plans into practice some day!

The first thing that comes into our mind when we come across the word textile sector is clothing. This exhibition is about everything but that.
VJTI has the oldest and the biggest textile department in Mumbai. Having history on our side, we decided to have a look into the future with a novel exhibition. This exhibition showcases the unprecedented growth of textile sector in five fields: defence, geo, electronics, aerospace, and medicine. With the help of a variety of models and presentations we have tried to display how the textile sector, hand in hand with these sectors, comes up with high-utility products that include more than just clothes. A variety of exhibits have been utilized to demonstrate how textiles are slowly but steadily entering into innumerable fields.
Most people cannot fathom the utility of textile in these diverse fields. Say, how many would know that certain fabric's mixed in while laying of the road surface lead to smoother roads! Or that internal ailments of the human body can be cured using fibres! The textile exhibition is definitely worth a watch.

This exhibition display is one of the feature events of Technovanza’06 that showcases the technical brilliance and dedication of VJTI students. The central idea of this project is to make a robot which has more or less the same maneuverability as that of a human. The robot is multi-functional in the sense of the variety of tasks that it can handle with precision.
The robot is packed with many amazing features like:
Motion wirelessly controlled.
Speech Recognition over all commands
Complete Computer control over all function.
Self Powered.
Arms for grabbing.
Automated task performing capability.
Webcam Support.
Manual Interfacing capability.
Remember R2D2??

The idea:
Imagine AD 2030. One Wankhede, many sports. There's an India vs. Pakistan twenty20 match scheduled there in the morning followed by a international athletics meet in the afternoon, and a National hockey Leagues match in the evening. That's the scenario Playstation9 tries to make possible.
The event:
The project is an exhibition display of a prototype of a sport stadium that can play host to nine different sports. The stadium morphs from one form to the next at the click of a button. In the process everything from the dimensions of the field, the seating arrangements for the audience to the overhead roof get rearranged. According to each sport, the audience seating expands/contracts as per the size of the field of play. There is a retractable roof overhead. It works somewhat like a matchbox, with one layer sliding out from beneath another
Multitasking is the name of the game for the 3.5×2.5m model can be used for cricket, hockey, football, lawn tennis, volleyball, basketball, badminton, table tennis, and athletics.
The inspiration:
The germ of the idea was taken from Yokohoma stadium and Sapporo stadium in Japan. The Yokohama stadium, which hosted the finals of the FIFA World Cup 2002, can also host athletics, baseball, and rugby. The conversion is done by removing artificial turf in patches using hydraulic cranes.
P.S: Make sure you aren't in the stadium when its changing you may not come out!!

Do you have an idea that could make a difference?
X-CON, VJTI's national level exhibition contest provides you with the platform to showcase your design. This is an event for people with real talent and real commitment..
This contest tests the creativity, organizational and presentation skills, data interpretation, and problem-solving skills of the participant.
This exhibition contest challenges the participants to come up with a feasible solution for one of the following four themes:
1.Making earth a better place to live.
2.Let us convert our dreams into reality
3.Simplifying life
4.Technology 2020
The model they present must have practical relevance and feasibility. It must be beneficial to mankind in some way. The project and presentation that is judged to be the most innovative and efficient will be declared the winner.
Entries will be short listed on the basis of their abstract. These participants put up a stall during Technovanza'06 where they displayed their working models/projects. Based on the response to this stall, their performance in the question-answer round with our judges and in the brainstorming sessions, the winners will be decided.
