GATI : The Assembly Line

This is our attempt at bringing a slice of life-in-the-industry to the students. It is an exhibition event where a Light Weight Motor Vehicle will be built from the chassis up by a method that combines real-life efficiency with our own innovations.
The 2 x 1.25 x 1.25 feet prototype is built on a conveyor belt in a completely automated process (in real manufacturing units substantial amount of work is done manually).

The Process:
We start with the chassis at the base and at each stage of the process a component is positioned properly and then put in place by a pick ‘n’ place mechanism. The different components that are to be assembled include the muffler, engine, propeller, axles, wheels and finally the body.

The first step is to mount the muffler on the chassis. Next, the engine will be mounted on the chassis. Again the conveyor belt moves to the next stage where the propeller is assembled. Likewise the axles, wheels and the body will be attached to the chassis one by one. The pick ‘n’ place mechanisms used are pneumatics-based and lead to a completely automated assembly of a vehicle.

Thus, this event brings the making of a car to your doorstep and allows the audience to have an inside peek at what goes on in a car manufacturing unit.

Wireless Formula One: Monaco:

Last year, VJTI launched a new robotics event. F1. And what a response!! Lets be honest we didn't expect it to go so well .hehe Over 51 teams from across the countries bid to outrun each other over 2400square meters of tarmac circuit, competing for total prize money to the tune of Rs.23,000.

Guess who's back this year??

The Circuit:
Lets go to Monaco . All the robot-cars will race on a concrete track of 60m length that's a replica of the actual track; it has got the elevations, curves and even the tunnel just like the real thing. Our tunnel, 13.26m in length is made of aluminium mesh, so that the drivers can see their cars as they navigate them through it.

The Format:
The event will have four rounds: qualifying, league, semifinals and to top off the festival, the Finals on Sunday.

The Real thing:
And to give you the "real" deal:

1.The elevations, turns and tunnel of the original track have been proportionally incorporated in the circuit.
2.The surface is made of concrete, not the most common of surfaces for robotics competitions.
3.We've even got a side lane where all robot-cars must pit-stop to "refuel." As per the rules of the competition, if any car needs to change batteries during the competition, it can only do so in the side lane and nowhere else on the circuit.

And obviously you can't use toy carparts .

Technovanza 2006

What??

Technovanza 2006 .technical festival of VJTI, Mumbai.

A little about it:

This national level festival serves as a platform for all engineering as well as non engineering colleges to display their expertise in various technical, management as well as fun events.

The events cover a wide range from core technical events like F1(wireless robotics), Gati(a simulation of the Automobile assembly line), Play station 9(working model of a convertible stadium).

Technovanza also has management level events (Be an enterpreneur, Virtual stock market, Simulation city )

When??:
The fun rolls on straight from 18th right through to the 20th of August '06.

Crowd pullers:

* Wireless Formula One: Monaco Grand Prix
Race your wireless machines around the sharp curves of the miniature Monaco circuit ..calling all speed demons!

* XCON: Exhibition Contest:
The best ideas with better implementations .rekindle your grey cells and experience technology at its grandest.

* GATI : The Assembly Line
Watch a motor vehicle assembled right before your eyes .don't miss this opportunity.

* I, Robot;
The central idea of this project is to make a robot which has more or less the same maneuverability as that of a human. The robot is multi-functional in the sense of the variety of tasks that it can handle with precision. Voice recognition, robotic arm, webcam support .(Remember R2D2??)

* Robotics:
This is from classic sci-fi. Autonomous robots roving across chess boards, aerorails pushing the limits and water bots guiding helium balloons .the robots will be omnipresent.

* Young Managers:
And for the non-technical junta test your managerial prowess and launch your business brainchild. If unsuccessful, head for Dalal Street making money was never this easy.

* Model United
