I loved Rang De Basanti and Omkara to death. But I have a serious grudge against the guy who writes the subtitles of the DVDs of these films.
Both films are excellent in every aspect ' technical and creative. When it comes to this detail, however, they slack big time. And that's quite a shame considering how hard-hitting the dialogues of both these films really are.
The sad part is: international audience which mostly relies on subtitles to understand the film, never get the real punch or essence of the conversation.
How do you dub regional gaalis? I say with the same ferocity as they were uttered in the movie. How do you dub in-jokes between characters? I say by not translating it literally.
Subtitles are not translation. It's expressing a whole thought and concept through the medium of another language.
When will our filmmakers take the concept of DVD packaging more seriously? Having behind-the-scenes or made for TV interviews is not enough, really.
A little more interest and effort should be taken/made in this direction.

The Dor DVD was also dissapointing.
This was Nagesh’’s first visually-beautiful-like-Discovery-In-HD movie. However,
the DVD did not have that impact at all. I realized this when the “Making
Of” part started after the movie ended, and the movie clips looks so much
more crisp and colorful and beautiful.
Hope Dor will be released on HD-DVD in 1080p@24 some day and I will be able
to watch it again.
It is not just the filmmakers who don”t care (and they should, because DVD’’s rake in a lot of money from overseas), but its also rip off companies like EROS. Im sorry to say, but for all its influence in Bollywood, the company makes the worst DVDs imaginable. The transfers are weak, as a paying customer I am often forced to sit through several unskippable ads everytime i want to watch the DVD and there are no special features, poor packaging, poor subtitles (Omkara had pretty good subtitle work however). Yet, every EROS dvd has multiple ads proclaiming how great Eros is. Its a shame that the same filmmakers who make a big deal about how great their movie is before it is released won”t take any steps to ensure that it is preserved and remembered the way it should. not too much to ask. Why should I pay 15-20$ for such a product?

well before the film makers may i Take the mike in between , you are exactly correct that subtitels should be the complete thought conveyed , but even for enlish or any other language movies , subtitels are treated this way only that is litereal translation.
