Stand by me!

Ben E King recorded ’Stand by me’ in 1960 inspired by a gospel number. Later it was used in the Levi ad in 1987 and even by Muhammed Ali. This clip features both the original song and parts of the coming-of-age movie “Stand by me” starring *River Phoenix(the boy with the guitar), the older brother of Joaquin Phoenix of Galdiator fame! River died of a drug overdose at age 23 just when his career was zooming!

When the night has come
And the land is dark
And the moon is the only light we’ll see
No I won’t be afraid, no I won’t be afraid
Just as long as you stand, stand by mel

So darlin’, darlin’, stand by me, oh stand by me
oh stand, stand by me, stand by me

If the sky that we look upon
Should tumble and fall
Or the mountains should crumble to the sea
I won’t cry, I won’t cry, no I won’t shed a tear
Just as long as you stand, stand by me

And darlin’, darlin’, stand by me, oh stand by me
Oh stand now, stand by me, stand by me

Darlin’, darlin’, stand by me-e, stand by me
Oh stand by me, stand by me, stand by me

Whenever you’re in trouble just stand by me, oh now now stand by me
Oh stand by me, stand by me, stand by me

* River Phoenix was a vegan from the age of 7 and campaigned for PETA and won their humanitarian of the year award in 1990. He also supported various environmental charities and bought up 800 acres of endangered rainforest in Costa Rica. Phoenix also denounced the use of all animal by-products and refused to wear leather or fur in any of his films or television work throughout his career. His brother Joaquin follows this Phoenix family tradition of boycotting all animal products in his film work.

:0) Heard… and savoured. Felt a couple of years shimmer and melt momentarily. I hear this song 2-3 years ago when I was on a road trip with dottir. She was asleep in the back seat, and I alone at the wheel, listening to this song. We were around Alibagh, heading back into Bombay, and it was forenoon, I think. Ah NOSTALGIA!!!
