Know Your Self Through Meditation

Knowing Self will be the best investment of time and efforts anyone can do, which will bring the highest and the most meaningful returns. Knowing Self might drastically change your life, your attitude, your way of thinking, your approach and your living. It can transform your life into a brand new, very different or even entirely opposite to your previous life till now. All this will lead to the reality, the truth, the fulfilment and ultimately the enlightenment.
Meditation is a way to know Self. Meditation is a way to be able to see clearly the interactions of Self with everything around. Meditation is to be fully aware of Self. Regular practice of Meditation, is a consistent direct communication with the Self. Meditation is to know and finally master the Self. Meditation is an art and science of Self.
Some questions might arise in mind, such as:
What kind of difference this knowledge of Self makes?
Why to invest time in knowing the Self?
We all know our body and also get to know how to take care of it. We constantly feel the presence of mind, and  try to manage it. Self is something which is not so obvious. Self is subtle. Though Self is the real core and much more  important than the body as well as mind. Self determines who someone really is. Mind and body more or less just follow and act as per the directions of the Self.
Some people are successful, rich and happy whereas some are not. External conditions are more or less exactly the same. If the success and happiness would have depended on external factors, then pretty much everyone would have been either happy and successful or unhappy and unsuccessful. But this is obviously not the case. So it is clear beyond any doubt that whatever is the condition of someone is, that is due to that person’s own Self. That also means that once someone could get this concept, then someone can know the real source of everything. Cause of everything is Self, rest all are mere effects. The conclusion is that everything falls down to Self. Now, if the Self is under control, then that person can manifest whatever he or she want in his or her life. Self is the secret. Self is the real substance. Self is the Science. Self is the truth.
If Self is so much important, then we must know more about it. We must be observant of it. We must be intelligent enough to modify, change and improve it as per the consequences we are facing, especially when what we are receiving is very different than what we want in life. Meditation is one way for anyone to be able to be in touch with Self. Once someone establishes contact with Self, one can observe the state of Self. One can see the flaws. One can see the confusion. One can see the reasons. One can understand the causes of the stuff happening. Regular practice of Meditation, consistently keep the practitioner connected with Self. Continuous observation, interaction and communication with Self, brings the possibility of continuous change towards right positive direction, in which someone finally can attain fulfilment, happiness, success and enlightenment. The Shri Amarnath Shrine Board Friday said the annual Amarnath Yatra 2011 would be held from June 29 to August 13. The Board, which met here under the chairmanship of Governor, N N Vohra who is also the Chairman SASB, desired that a very strong advisory should be issued to the Yatris to undergo a proper medical check-up to assess their fitness for undertaking the Yatra.

SASB Chief Executive Officer, R K Goyal told the meeting that 68 people died last year due to various medical reasons, particularly cardiac failure, while undertaking the Yatra.

As compared to the last year’s death toll of 68, 45 persons lost their lives in the 2009 yatra, he said. The Board asked the CEO to generate awareness among the people about the difficult nature of the yatra through print and electronic media.

Goyal said each registered Yatri, labourer, Ponywallah and Dandiwallah was being extended a group accident insurance cover of Rs one lakh and necessary arrangements had been made with New India Assurance Company.

The Board was also informed that on the directions of the Governor, the amount of insurance cover for the ponies had been enhanced from Rs 20,000 in 2010 to Rs 25,000 this year, for the benefit of ponywallahs who lost their animals in accidents during the yatra.

The meeting was attended by the Board Members, Sri Sri Ravi Shanker, Dr Kapila Vatsyayan, Justice (Rtd.) GD Sharma, Dr (Ms) Sunita Narayan, Vijay Dhar and Dr (Prof.) Ved Kumari Ghai.

The Board expressed satisfaction about the arrangements made for the conduct of Shri Amarnathji Yatra 2010 and particularly appreciated the measures taken for environmental protection, including the operation of two Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs), based on the eco-friendly biological treatment, at the Baltal and Nunwan Base Camps.

Amarnath Yartra Introduction:
There is famous Rigvedic Verse that says “Ekam Sat” that is “There is one Being ,the sages call Him by many names.” The God (Parmeshwar) has three deities who carry on the world .This is Known as Holy Trinity. Brahma- the creator, Vishnu - the perpetuator of life and Shiva (Mahesh) -the purifier and perpetuator of good and destroyer of evil. Rig Veda refer Shiva as Rudra as in its following verse. “We Worship Tryambaka (Rudra), Who spread Fragrance and Increases Nourishment, May He release me ,like the cucumber from its stem , From Mortal Life , But not From Immorality . “(Rig Veda Mandal VII Sukta 59 and Mantra 12).

The Yajurveda describes Shiva as ascetic warrior Whose robe is of Deer Skin and He carries Trishul. According to the verse Satyam, Shivam ,Sundaram ,the life is described as having three facets Truth (Satyam), Good (Shivam) and the Beautiful (Sundaram).

Shiva is a living God. The most Sacred and ancient books of India, the Rig Veda narrates His presence in the hymns. Vedic myths, rituals and even astronomy testifies to His existence from the dawn of time .The Mohindaro and Harapa findings confirm Shiva worship in the ancient India. According to the older scriptures, He has three places of His residence. One is Kailash Parvat another is Lohit Giri under which Brahamputra flows and third is Muzwan Parvat .

Tigers in India

Project Tiger, launched in 1973-74, is one of our most successful conservation projects in recent times. The project aims at tiger conservation in specially constituted ‘tiger reserves, which are representative of various bio-geographical regions within the country. Is committed to maintaining a viable population of tigers in the wild.

An estimate of the population of tigers in India at the turn of the century, placed the figure of 40,000. Subsequently, the first tiger census in India was conducted in 1972 revealed the existence of only 1827 tigers. various pressures in the second half of last century led to the gradual decrease in the desert, destroying vital habitat of the tiger. At the meeting of the IUCN General Assembly in New Delhi in 1969, serious concerns have been expressed about the threat to many species of wildlife and the shrinkage of natural areas of the country. In 1970 a national ban on tiger hunting was imposed in 1972 and the Wildlife Protection Act came into force. A task force was then established to formulate a plan for tiger conservation with an ecological approach.

The project was launched in 1973, and the tiger reserves were created in the country on a strategy of “core-buffer”. The main sectors were exempted from any kind of human activity and buffer zones have been subjected to “land use to conserve.” Management plans were developed for each tiger reserve, based on the principles set out below:

1. Elimination of all forms of human exploitation and biotic disturbance from the central and rationalization of activities in the buffer zone.
2. Restricting the habitat management only to repair the damage caused to the eco-system by human interference and the other in order to facilitate the recovery of the ecosystem to its natural state.
3. Monitor changes in flora and fauna over time and conduct research on wildlife.

Initially, 9 tiger reserves were established in different States during the period 1973-74, by pooling resources with the central government and the state. These nine reserves covered an area of about 13,017 sq.km-viz Manas (Assam), Palamau (Bihar), Similipal (Orissa), Corbett (UP), Kanha (MP), Melghat (Maharashtra), Bandipur (Karnataka) Ranthambhore (Rajasthan) and Sunderbans (West Bengal).

The project started as a ‘Central Sector Scheme “with the full support of the central government until 1979-1980: later to become a” center-sponsored Scheme of 1980 to 81, with a fair division of costs between the center and states.

The W.W.F. gave an aid of 1 million dollars in the form of equipment, the expertise and literature. The various states are also responsible for losses due to forgo registration in the reserves.

The main results of this project are excellent recovery of habitats and consequently an increase in population of tigers in the reserve areas, a simple 9268 reserves from 1972 to 1576 in 27 reserves in 2003. Tiger, being at the top of the food chain, can be considered as an indicator of the eco-system. For a viable tiger population, a habitat should possess a good prey base, which in turn depends on an undisturbed forest vegetation. Thus, ‘Project Tiger’, is essentially the conservation of eco-system as a whole, and apart from tigers, all other wild animals also increased in number in the project areas. In the following five-year plans, the main objective was to expand the buffer and core zones in certain reserves, intensification of protection and economic development in buffer zones of existing tiger reserves, creation of tiger reserves and strengthening further the activities research tiger tours in India.

Management strategy has been to identify limiting factors and to mitigate the appropriate direction. The damage to the habitat needed to be corrected in order to facilitate the recovery of eco-system as much as possible. management practices that tend to push the wildlife populations beyond the carrying capacity of the habitat have been carefully avoided. A core minimum of 300 sq. km. with a buffer size has been recommended for each project area. The general administration of the project is monitored by a steering committee. The project comprises the governments of respective states. A “camp director is appointed for each reserve, which is assisted from the field and technical staff. The chief director of wildlife in the various states are responsible for the implementation on the ground. In the center, a true” director “of the project, coordinating work for the country.

Cricket World Cup Tour Packages

With a few days left for the cricket World Cup to kick off, the tour packages for all the India matches besides the semi-finals and the final are almost sold out, according to the travel partners of the ICC.

At the same time, chacha travel firms that are not officially associated with the ICC are stepping up efforts to cash in on the excitement around the mega-sporting event to be played in the sub-continent from 19 February to 2 April.

UK-based ‘Cricket Logistics´ which is the official travel and tour provider for the International Cricket Council (ICC) had appointed TUI India and Mumbai-based Cutting Edge Events to sell special travel packages.

These include hotel stay, air travel, meals, match tickets and transport in India.

While India is the most sought after team, packages designed around South Africa and England are next on the popularity list amongst the fans.

“The response has been great. Most of the inventories for India matches, semi-finals and finals have already been sold. We have kept some inventory to be offered later,” TUI chief operating officer Rajiv Duggal said.

He said, TUI is offering packages priced between Rs. 10,000 to Rs. 45,000 per person per match.

“There is a lot of interest from corporates and we are also getting individuals booking on the website,” he added.

India will play six qualifying matches and can play three more matches if it reaches the final.

Similarly, according to the co-founder of Cutting Edge Events, Mayank Khandwala, because of the limited availability of inventory, the packages are selling like hot cakes.

“We are also getting a lot of inquiries and bookings from international travellers from Middle-East, Singapore, Africa and Hong Kong,” Khandwala said.

Besides the official partners, online travel services providers, including Make My Trip and Cleartrip, have also seen increase in bookings for air tickets and hotels.

“We are not promoting any packages for the Cup. However, we have seen a massive jump in air tickets and hotel bookings done on our website,” Cleartrip vice president Business Development Tarique Khatri said.

For instance there has been a 100% jump in air travel and 120% jump in hotel bookings on Cleartrip’s website for 27 February when India will play England in Bangalore, compared to the same date in 2010.

Similar pattern has emerged in case of bookings on other days of India matches at different venues.

“The travel business overall is growing and the World Cup is giving a boost to it,” he added.

Even MakeMyTrip has seen increase in queries for the cricket season from both India and abroad.

“We have been receiving queries from Australia, UK and UAE for World cup. We already have few groups and lot of individual travelers flying in for cricket and extending their holiday to explore rest of India,” MakeMy Trip co-founder Keyur Joshi said.

Another company, Travel ChaCha, is promoting match specific tour packages for destinations like Sri Lanka, Goa, Mumbai, New Delhi and Chandigarh.

“We have been getting around two to three enquiries a day for such packages and till date we have finalised 66 tour packages from all parts of World,” Travelchacha CEO Sanjay Bhasin said.

This time there is 30% to 40% increase in tour packages for cricket World Cup,“ he added.
