These days' I am learning to operate Sounforge' a recording, mixing & editing software' Thus tried to record something in my voice sitting right in front of my PC, without taking any external support like musical accompaniment etc.. A complete domestic recording this is'

This is a poem written by Gurudev Tagore' also it is a component of the Divine Music created by Him' Robindro Shongeet' I recite this song in a live programme called 'Kabyer Kotha' ' based on Tgaore's poetry'
Poem 'Krishnokoli..' Celebrates the beauty of a dark village girl & the dark - divine nature which surrounds her' Here is the translation of original Bangla Poem' done by Smt. Rajlukshmee Debee.
'Black Blossom' I call her, though
The village-folk call her 'the dark one'
On a cloudy day, I saw at a meadow
The black girl, with eyes
Black, like the eyes of a doe.
She had no veil on her head '
Oh her back lay the open braid.

A sudden gust of easterly wind
Made waves across paddy-fields

Amazing, Prachi..! It took me to a different world all together…! I floated like a leaf, over the shades of Calcutta, the overflowing Hugli, the quintessential structres, the nooks… the darkness.. the light.. the shadows..! The sweet and rich Bengali.. it filled my heart. The divine voice.. Classic, friend! I can go on.. listening to it!

wow….I could hear the “music”…then realised there was no music only your voice….awesome…..I didn”t understand the words since I don”t know bangla but there was sweetness and lot of drama expressed thro” words….neat….you must have practised it a lot….since you are classical singer you brought lot of beauty to this one….keep it up.
Decades ago heard the same number by Suchitra Mitra. Now, from you…Hmmm. I am speechless. You mastered the bong pronounciations, dictions, the pauses and more..perfect. I approve. Have to visit here more often.

I don”t know Bengali. But the song quality was great; if you did not mention it I don”t think I would have known it was domestic. Further, I loved the emotions you brought into the song at various stages. Somehow, for me personally, more than the music or the voice, if I could feel that the singer is feeling the words s/he is singing, I literally melt. This was the best (from the few songs I heard of you). Frankly, there were places I did not like the pitch (maybe I would understand it if I knew the language), but that is just nitpicking

And while we are on the subject of “Krishnokoli”, I wiould ask you again to listen to Suchitra singing the same song. It is evident that her passion is not directed to a woman. She sings of her love, her need to achieve union, with an ideal, which in our culture is symbolised with Krishna. That is true religion … re-legio, to re-yoke, (yoga), oneself to a God, an union which mankind loses after birth as a human and must re-discover once again before death to attain nirvaan.
On the subject of pronunciation, Prachi, my advice would be to not try and achieve a perfection which doesn”t really exist. I have listened to English women, French women, Finnish, German … esp around this month of May, Rabindra Jayanti, and around the Pujas … and while it is clear that the singer is non-Bong, so what? I have listened to guys singing Beatles, Doors, Deep Purple and it was always clear that the singers were not native, so what? … besides, I quite like that special quality of your voice, that particular lilt … very charming.
It sounds better than on de phone … your pronunciation is fine … I have listened to umpteen Bongs singing and let me tell you there is no such thing as a standard pronunciation …. besides, if we want people to sing songs from other traditions, I would say ” Let there be more”. You are that rare singer trying to master traditions other than your own … congrats and jubilats
Excellent. Considering the fact it is ur first attempt, it is certainly gr8. As II says, all u need to work on is the accent, pronunciation etc. And gr8 solo recording too… no noise- almost a studio like effect!
