This realization helped me, in my opinion, get more objective in analyzing issues. Now I analyze an action or idea and try to ignore the source as I do that. This removes bias. But still, parents and wife (and kids in future) occupy a special place. As I tell them frequently, they are the only people I will be around independent of their personalities. The proportion of time I spend with others is proportional to my approval (and my enjoyment) of their personality. For these, it is independent. It is like, we are one person (as we are based on “I want to live forever” and “The nature of self and identity”).

Ref - your comment on “Living Morally - Mankind Attempts a Contradiction”
Discomfort as we consider new ideas, in my opinion, is a flaw in self rather than the idea, Prachi. For example, in my father’’s case, without naming specific traits, I faced a lot of turmoil. Right from my birth I was told parents are next to god, and I treated them as such. Never questioned the ethics of their actions in me. But there were times when I didn”t like some actions, but I told myself there was some unknown reason which I will “understand later”. Some day at 18 or so, I was walking down a road and suddenly realized a major flaw in my thinking. “Good and bad people exist everywhere in the world. The people who are bad are parents to some other person. Now, is it right to support a bad person just because s/he happens to be his/her parent? Doesn”t this prevent any betterment in both the off-spring and the parent?” –>

Ref - your comment on ethics simplified
This post was an attempt to have the issues of ethics “simplified” Anyway, for me the issue is simple (of course, it was complex for a long time). For example, homosexuality is considered a sin (and “disease” for some people). However, a slight change in perspective (or watching the Hanks, Washington starrer “Philadelphia”) brings a whole new dimension to the idea. Basically, I might not be a gay, or can handle polygamy or go to prostitutes. But I don’t see why I should have a problem with them as long as nobody is forcing me to do stuff. For me, forcing a woman to not prostitute if she wants to is as much wrong as forcing a woman to prostitute when she does not want to. Similarly, for other named acts. People have the right to live in anyway they want as long as they don’t force others against their will.

I typed this yesterday, but somehow couldn’t post it. Some problem with rediffiland.
Yes, Prachi. I do believe the biggest problem to women are their well-wishers. It is so ingrained that, for example, I despite knowing this catch myself causing problems to my wife under the cloak of “for her own safety and protection”. It becomes tough to take it back also, as I need to save face; besides the girl herself won’t find anything harmful in my advice, and in fact will like it. Anyway, in the long run people, I think, do get what they deserve.
By the way, I am still having a couple more days of end of semester work and will get back to you over the weekend about your music. Later then

Pra, i think if you can sleep under the same banyan tree peacefully - you are ‘at home’ with it So keep singing, and hopefully the troubled souls around you can slip in to sleep too and be at peace, atleast for a while! I have a great respect for artists, particularly for musicians and singers, for I personally feel a good song (poem) is a simple means to take me closer to the simpler truth of life!

When a child paints, there are some very nice pattern But it depends on the person who sees what. So I agree with you…
But how to differentiate a great artist from a novice? Shouln’t he be able to generate a wanted pattern of thinking in the observers, and that should make him/her great? Otherwise any abstract art will be called great creation, as people won’t understand it, so they will think it must be wonderful?

I first thought it that was a sign of terror or fear. But it was not a sign where one eye was closed. But one thing is interesting. In some of the faces, half face itself is hidden, along with the eyes. But in some, the other half face is visible, but only the eye is not there! And there are innocence on all faces - a commom trait… And one of them wears only a neck-tie, something that is considered a man’s garment! And wait, the middle two faces are something! Two halves of the same face!!! but both don’t have the other eye! Seems the painter was either not sure about what s/he wanted to show, or I am not able to get it…
Your explanation was quite right. (1) But how do you explain the middle two faces, morror images? (2) And why these two wear caps? (3) Above the figure wearing a neck-tie, there is a horizontal bar - it that symbol of hanging?
