Mohd Rafi

These are some clips from youtube of the great phenomenal genius Mohd Rafi. Naushad can also be seen in some of these. This is a treasure of God’s own voice. I dedicate this selection to dear friend Ekantapadhika. Enjoy.

There has been none like Rafi. Right from ‘’suno suno ae duniya walon bapu ki yeh amar kahani” onwards he wove magic into the songs. Deedar was one of the many high points. And when he teamed with Talat Saab, like in the duet ”gham ki andheri raat mein” it was sheer magic.

Eka’’s comment (contd)And which woman’’s heart does can withstand the immense tenderness in his voice when he croons maangke saath tumhara, aise toh na dekho, aawaz deke hume tum pukaro, hum bekhudi me tum ko pukare. The list is endless. I”ll have to listen to Johnny Walker singing ”Sar jo tera chchakraye” :-)

I have been trying for two days to post these comments on your page with no success. Hence, mailing it to you. I”ve just been googling for Rafi’’s songs just to ask myself which of his songs do I like the best . It’’s impossible to decide. The man is just astonishing in his range. He sings songs like Din dal jaaye, maang ke saath tumhara, khoya khoya chaand, aap ke hasin rukh pe and you will think his voice is just made for Dev Anand. And then you listen to chaudvin ka chaand and wonder how easily his voice moulds itself to the romance and pathos of Gurudutt’’s characters. Many of the songs he sang for Shammi Kapoor like yeh chaand se roshan chehra, aaja aaja mei hoon pyaar tera are so lively.
