Over the years America has been dominating the air as well as the seas with its vast number of fighter jets and unbeatable carrier fleet. No other nation has been successful to beat its super carriers and fighter jets over the past decades. But with China’s development of the Dongfeng 21D Chinese Missiles, things are expected to change now.

df 21 missile Dongfeng 21D Chinese Missile Is Ready For The Apocalypse!

The DongFeng 21D is a missile that could be launched from land and has the ability of accurately hitting and destroying moving super carriers up to more than 900 miles away. Basically, it is anti-ship ballistic missile and said to be the first of its kind in the world. The DongFeng 21D is the latest from China’s DongFeng 21 which apparently is a two–stage propellant as well as single-warhead medium range ballistic missile system developed by China Changfeng Mechanics and Electronics Technology Academy.

The DF 21 is originally created for strategic missions, but later versions turns out to be designed for both nuclear as well as conventional missions. And apparently, the DongFeng 21D is the latest variant from the DF 21 system and according to some reports China is still in the process of perfecting the 21D and final testing of the missile is scheduled by the end of this year.

The development of DongFeng 21D could transform China’s position in the Pacific balance of power and could significantly weaken Washington’s ability to interfere in any conflict between Taiwan and North Korea. With the DongFeng 21 D, US ships will also find some difficulty to get to international waters near China. Beijing has been widely vocal with its demand for the US to stay away from China’s territorial waters.

But some experts find it a little doubtful for China’s ability to perfect the Dongfeng 21D specifically pertaining to having that kind of accuracy in hitting a moving super carrier. And despite China’s effort, it would take some time for China to be able to catch up against US carriers.

A version of the Dongfeng 21D missile has been shown in the Chinese military parade held last year. If the Dongfeng 21 D could really do what it promises to do, even if it will not really match up the amazing fleet US has, US will still find it difficult to penetrate the international waters near its territory.

How long will it take for China to perfect the Dongfeng 21D? Will the Dongfeng 21D give China the ultimate power in the Pacific region? These questions are yet to be answered.

Sachin : Student of the game

Unruffled composure over two decades, in the face of the world’s most hostile attacks and the frenzied demands of a celebrity-fixated society, confirms the true greatness of Sachin Tendulkar.

For a man in his 38th year, Tendulkar’s appetite for runs remains unsated and his unrelenting determination to keep wringing the utmost out of the gifts so lavishly bestowed on him at birth is phenomenal.

So, too, is his ability to remain unaffected either on or off the field by the relentless glare of public adulation which makes a private life impossible in his native India.

No hint of scandal has touched the man who last weekend became the first person to pass 14,000 test runs in the second test against Australia and he remains the complete team player.

“It is about what I want to do for my team,” he said after scoring his sixth test double-hundred in 171 tests and his 11th century against the team who have dominated cricket during his career. “And I will not compromise on that.”

Tendulkar has shown unqualified commitment to his team and his sport since Pakistan’s Waqar Younis bloodied his mouth with a short-pitched delivery in his debut test in 1990 at the age of 16.

Eight days later he became the youngest man to score a test half-century and 20 years on he holds the records for most test and one-day runs and the most test and one-day centuries, a scarcely believable 95 in total.

BRADMAN ACCOLADE

The ultimate accolade came from Don Bradman, whose test average of 99.94 dwarfs all his rivals before or since, including Tendulkar whose current mark is just under 57.

Towards the end of his life Bradman, the first celebrity cricketer, whose run-scoring feats for Australia in the depths of the 1930s depression bolstered an emerging nation’s morale, called his wife into the room to watch Tendulkar on television.

“I never saw myself play but I feel that this fellow is playing much the same as I used to play, and she looked at him on the television and said, yes, there is a similarity between the two,” recalled Bradman, who was no more inclined to make unconsidered statements that he had been to play rash shots.

“To me his compactness, his technique, his stroke production, it all seemed to gel as far as I was concerned.”

Tendulkar scored his first test hundred at Old Trafford at the age of 17 and he had still to celebrate his 20th birthday when a century off the Australians at Perth won the unstinted praise of cricket’s fiercest competitors.

The West Indian, Pakistani and South African fast bowlers at the start of his career held no terrors. His later duels with Shane Warne became the stuff of legend.

Tendulkar, who overtook compatriot Sunil Gavaskar’s world record of 34 test centuries in 2006, has reserved his best for Australia.

Under Steve Waugh, Australia fielded a side comparable to Bradman’s 1948 Invincibles or Ian Chappell’s swaggering buccaneers of the 1970s.

WARNE TAMED

They met their match in India in 1998 when Tendulkar launched a sustained and successful assault on Warne, generally regarded as the best spinner of all time, to average 111.50 in a 2-1 series win for India.

On Tuesday, while Warne fumed via Twitter on Ricky Ponting’s field placings, Tendulkar was still Australia’s nemesis, scoring the winning runs to give India a 2-0 series victory which consolidated their place at the top of the world rankings.

Unsurprisingly the relentless demands of modern cricket have taken their toll and Tendulkar was troubled by injuries to his elbow and his shoulder and a slump in form in the middle of the last decade.

He rebounded to such effect that this year he was named the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) cricketer of the year for the first time, after averaging 81.84 in 10 tests during the review period and 65.28 in 17 one-day internationals.

Tendulkar intends to play next year in the first World Cup to be staged on the Indian sub-continent for 15 years, a tournament which all India fervently hopes will give their team the trophy for the first time since their upset victory over West Indies in 1983.

That unexpected triumph sparked an explosion of one-day cricket in India accompanied by a commercial boom which has helped to make Tendulkar a wealthy man by any standards.

Wealth and fame, though, seem to have scarcely affected a man whose work ethic has been a constant since he accumulated prodigious scores as a schoolboy.

He was predictably named man-of-the-match and man-of-the-series after the second test against Australia but preferred to praise his team mates rather than talk about himself. When he did it was with humility and respect for his sport.

“I’ve played 20 years but that doesn’t mean that I know everything about cricket,” Tendulkar said.

“It’s important to be a student of this game. That’s when you can actually learn and get better. Learning never stops.”

LORD GANESHA

Gokarna Mahabaleshwar

Gokarna Mahabaleshwar

Ravana, the king of lanka, was a great devotee of Shiva. He often went to Kailasa. There he worshipped Shiva with great devotion.Once,as usual, he had gone to Kailas. Lord Shiva was very pleased with his devotion.”I am pleased with you” he told Ravana.”askfor any boon.

I shall grant it.”when all the world will end in the great floods,”said Ravana, “Lanka should be spared. That’s the only boon I want!Shiva was little puzzled. Ravana had already proved troublesome to the gods. Having the boon granted he would trouble the gods still more.

So what should be done? Shiva thought of a clever idea He gave Ravana a Shivalinga.” take this Shivalinga,”Shiva told him, “wherever you put it down, it would stick fast there That place will be protected from the floods.

If you wish to protect Lanka, make sure you put it down on reaching Lanka! Ravana was overjoyed. But shiva warned him, “hold it in both hands. If you leave it anywhere else it will stick to that spot,Then it will not be possible to remove it.So be careful with it!”Ravana eagerly started for Lanka. Meanwhile, the gods learnt of Shiva’s boon to Ravana. They were horrified They went to Ganesha for help.

They told him what had happened.”please do something,God,” they pleaded to Ganesha,”so that the Shivalinga does not reach Lanka.if it reaches there;Ravana would become more powerful.” Ganesha thought for a moment. He had a bright idea,”all right,”he assured them a solution” I shall see that the Shivalinga does not reach Lanka.”then Ganesha, in the disguise of a cowherd, stood in Ravana’s path.Ravana had walked a long way, was tired and sweating. He wanted to wipe his sweat. But he could not do so;cause he had the heavy Shivalingain his hands.

Just then Ravana saw the cowherd boystanding in his path.Behind him there was a river.”hey boy! Come here.” Ravana called out to the boy.”What do you want?” the boy asked;without moving from where he stood.”I am very thirsty,”replied Ravana. “Please hold this Linga for just a minute. Do not put it down. I wish to go to the river for a drink of water.I shall not take long.”"All right!” said, Ganesha “but the Linga seems very heavy;if my hands get tired I shall call you three times If you don’t come immediately back, then I shall put it down!” he warned.”Don’t worry! “Ravana said.”I shall be quick.”With a great relief he handed over the linga to the boy. Then he hurried to the river.

And as soon as Ravana reached the river; the boy called out;”Ravana, Ravana, Ravana!” and quickly put the linga down.Immediately it stuck there. When Ravana came back from the river;there was no sign of the boy. And the linga had stuck to the ground. Ravana tried to pull it.But it did not move a bit.Yet,because of Ravana’s great strength it lost the shape. It now resembles the ear of a cow. That is why it is known as Gokarna. The place became a famous place of pilgrimage. Even to-day we know it as Gokarna Mahabaleshwar.

SOCOTRA ISLAND

Socotra Island, you’d be inclined to think you were transported to another planet - or traveled to another era of Earth’s history.

This island, which is part of a group of 4 islands, has been geographically isolated from mainland Africa for the last 6 or 7 million years. Like the Galapagos Islands, this island is teeming with 700 extremely rare species of flora and fauna, a full 1/3 of which are endemic, i.e. found nowhere else on Earth.

The climate is harsh, hot and dry, and yet - the most amazing plant life thrives there. Situated in the Indian Ocean 250 km from Somalia and 340 km from Yemen, the wide sandy beaches rise to limestone plateaus full of caves (some 7 kilometers in length) and mountains up to 1525 meters high.

Socotra Island

The name Socotra is derived from a Sanscrit name, meaning “The Island of Bliss”…

Is it the beaches? The isolation and quiet? or the strange and crazy botanical allure?

Alien-looking plants: H. P. Lovecraft’s secret inspiration?

Was the famous Chtulhu myths creator aware of these forbidding mountains with their hauntingly weird flora (think of plant mutations from his “The Color out of Space”) ? We almost tempted to call Socotra the other “Mountains of Madness” - the trees and plants of this island were preserved thru the long geological isolation, some varieties being 20 million years old… We begin with the dracena cinnibaris or Dragon’s Blood Tree, the source of valuable resin for varnishes, dyes, and “cure-all” medicine; also (predictably) used in medieval ritual magic and alchemy -

The branches spread out into the sky and from below appear to hover over the landscape like so many flying saucers… and from above they have a distinct mushroom look:There is also the Desert Rose (adenium obesium) which looks like nothing so much as a blooming elephant leg:Dorstenia gigas - apparently does not require any soil and sinks roots straightIt also has a distinct personality and likes to smile for the camera:

Socotra Island

Somewhat similar to the weird Dorstenia gigas, is this “bucha” vegetable, found as far north as CroatiH.hope it’s not pregnant with anything malignant inside this sack. John Wyndham (with his “The Day of the Triffids”) would’ve loved it:

Socotra Island

Getting around can be a challenge, as there are almost no roads. Despite the fact that this island has around 40,000 inhabitants, the Yemeni govenment put in the first roads just 2 years ago - after negotiations with UNESCO, which has declared this island a World Natural Heritage Site. I would prefer a camel ride to what is bound to be a bumpy and slow 4×4 ride… It is a quiet and peaceful enclave in an otherwise troubled world. If you decide to visit there, you can forget about beachfront hotels and restaurants; this island is geared towards eco-tourism and sustaining the local economy and way of life.Socotra warbler, sunbird, starling, bunting, sparrow and cisticola are among the ones found here. There are also Socotra Cormorants:

THE UNDERGROUND VILLAGE OF MATMATA

As society advances people seem more and more drawn to the sky and build their homes higher and higher, but you’ll be surprised to know somewhere in Africa some people choose to live underground.

The Underground Village of Matmata
Matmata village

In Tunisia, 450 km south of the capital of Tunis, lies the small but impressive village of Matmata, the largest community of troglodytes (people who live in caves) in the world. The name Matmata comes from the Berber tribe that lives in this area of the country.

The history of how and why this place was first built is unknown but instead there are many stories regarding its beginnings. The most popular one says Matmata was born a long time ago, shortly after the Punic Wars, when the Romans sent two Egyptian tribes to the region and gave them permission to slaughter the locals and make the land their own. The original inhabitants left their homes and fled to the desert where they built new ones into the ground. They would leave their well disguised homes at night and attack the invaders until they managed to drive them away.

The Underground Village of Matmata

Other stories say this ancient settlement was born 700 hundred years ago when the people just couldn’t handle the burning sun. The whole village turned into an underground labyrinth where the homes were linked through intricate tunnels. The temperature inside one of these troglodyte homes remains constantly between 20-22 degrees Celcius during both summer and winter.

The Underground Village of Matmata

One of the most amazing things about Matmata is that although it has been around for at least 1000 years, no one even knew it existed until 1967 when heavy rain flooded the troglodytes’ homes and they were forced to send a delegation to ask the authorities for help. Many underground houses collapsed but with the help of the state, new surface residences were built. Now there are only around 100 dug-homes but they are enough to draw in hundreds of tourists from all around the world, every day.

Now you might say to your self: “this place looks familiar”, and if you are a Star Wars fan, you would be right. This is the place where George Lucas shot the scenes set on planet Tatooine where Uncle Owen and Aunt Beru used to live. In fact if you’re interested in experiencing the troglodyte way of life you can rent a room at the Sidi Driss hotel, it’s surprisingly comfortable and it has served as a set in the science-fiction blockbuster.

INDIAN LUNAR MISSION

Dreams of establishing a manned Moon base could become reality within two decades after India's first lunar mission found evidence of large quantities of water on its surface.

Data from Chandrayaan-1 also suggests that water is still being formed on the Moon. Scientists said the breakthrough ? to be announced by Nasa at a press conference ? would change the face of lunar exploration.

The discovery is a significant boost for India in its space race against China. Dr Mylswamy Annadurai, the mission's project director at the Indian Space Research Organisation in Bangalore, said: "It's very satisfying."

“The observations presented here show a combination of hydroxyl, OH (oxygen hydrogen molecules), and H2O (water) that resides in the upper few millimeters of the lunar surface,” said Jim Green, director of NASA’s Planetary Science Division. “The average amount of water reported, if we were to extract it, is about a quart of water per ton (of surface soil).”
To put it another way, he said, about 16 ounces of water might be present for every 1,000 pounds of surface soil near the moon’s poles. For soil near the equator, only about two tablespoons of water is believed to be present in every 1,000 pounds.

Early results from Nasa's Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter (LRO) recorded temperatures as low as -238C (minus 396.4F) in polar craters on the Moon, according to the journal Nature. That makes them the coldest recorded spots in the solar system, even colder than the surface of Pluto, and could mean that ice has been trapped for billions of years, the journal said. The LRO has also detected an abundance of hydrogen, thought to be a key indicator of ice, at the poles.

WORLDS TALLEST MAN

Sultan Kosen, a former basketball player from Turkey, has been acknowledged as the world's tallest man, by the Guinness Book of Records.

26-year-old Kosen is 2 meters 46.5 cm tall and he also holds the record for the world's biggest hands (27.5 cm) and the world's biggest feet (36.5 cm). He grew as a normal child until he turned 10, then, due to a dysfunctional pituitary gland, his body developed at an accelerated rate.

During the presentation of the 2010 Guinness Book of Records, in London, Sultan Kosen declared he hopes this new found fame will make him more successful with the ladies. Because of his unusual stature, women have always been afraid of him, but now he hopes he will finally find his soul-mate and get married.

The former world's tallest man, Ukrainian Leonid Stadnyk, allegedly measures 2.57 meters, but refused to have his height officially measured, saying fame brought him nothing but problems and he needs peace and quiet.

FRIENDSHIP BRIDGE

BAHRAIN STARTS WORK ON $3B CAUSEWAY

The Bahrain Government said that the new $3bn Friendship Causeway, linking the country with Qatar will be the LONGEST IN THE WORLD. The new causeway, construction work for which has already started, is expected to boost the economy of the island nation.

Billed as world’s logest causeway, the new link will be one of the most important infrastructure projects in the region. Once the bridge is completed in about four years time, it will boast more than 40km of twin carriageway, running across 22km of viaductsover the sea and 18km of embarkments.

Travel time between Bahrain and Qatar by car at an speed of 120km per hour will be reduced to 30 minutes from the current four-and-a half hours.

This new link will help boost Bahrain’s role as an ideal access point for international companies to develop their business in Gulf region.

Bahrain has a strong history of working closely with neighbours and it is already linked by the very successful KING FAHAD CAUSEWAY to Saudi Arabia. The completion of these second causeway will be a welcome addition to Bahrain’s impressive air, sea and road links and will provide new opportunities for companies based in Bahrain to further develop their business, not only in Qatar but right across the GCC.

The causeway will also provide a connection for future high-speed freight and passenger rail lines between the countries. There are also plans to extend the route to link Istanbul, Turkey and Muscat in Oman.

Tallest man-made structure

EMMAR TO BUILD WORLDS TALLEST TOWER IN SAUDI

Emmar Properties, which is already building the worlds tallest skyscraper in Dubai, has won a chance to outdo itself with a tower rising to a height of  more than 1,000 meters - this one in Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Kingdom holding company, a Saudi property company, announced on Saturday that it has picked Emmar to build a 100 billion Riyal (26.6 billion $) mixed use real estate project called Jeddah Kingdom City and Kingdom Tower, outside the Red Sea City of Jeddah. The tower will be “the highest in the world” Kingdom said in a news release.

Kingdom Chairman Prince Alwaleed bin Talal bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and his Emmar Counterpart Mohammed bin Ali Al Abbar signed a joint venture agreement for the project on Saturday.

Emmar is building Burj Dubai an 800 meter-high tower that now ranks as the worlds talles man made structure.
