Previously on Miranda Season 3 Episode 1 “It Was Panning”, Penny threatens to cancel Miranda’s Christmas unless she attempts to sort her life out. She makes her go into detox. Stevie has a new executive job and Miranda decides to try and get an office job as well but it all ends up proving too much.

On this week’s episode title “What A Surprise”, Penny manages to embarrass her daughter after she decides to run for local councillor with Tilly supporting her. Gary decides to join the dating scene and Miranda decides she has to do the same. They both attempt to find dates for Stevie’s birthday party.

Miranda is desperate to fit in, but can’t. Her public school background and posh accent make her a misfit down the pub. She has never fitted in with ‘the girls’ (not least because she’s a foot taller than them) and due to years of agoraphobic tendencies she doesn’t know how to behave socially or how to avoid embarrassment, especially around men.

She’s a constant disappointment to her mother Penny, who’s desperate for her to get a proper job, or even better, a husband, but Miranda’s happiest playing with and making up silly games in her joke shop.

Lacking any real capacity for business, Miranda employs her childhood friend Stevie to manage the shop. Stevie tries to run the business like she’s competing to be Alan Sugar’s apprentice, but her principal task is keeping Miranda’s childish absurdities under control.

It doesn’t matter what Miranda attempts in life – be it dating, joining the gym, or dealing with her overbearing mother, she always seems to fall flat – literally. She can never seem to leave a room without knocking something over.

Picking up where the last series left off, Miranda and Gary have agreed to be ‘just good friends’ and so future episodes find Miranda determined to get herself a new man to obsess over and keep her mother, Penny off her back.

Will Miranda and Stevie ever be responsible enough to make a real success of the shop? Will Miranda ever attract a man? Will Miranda and Gary finally get together or will they find new love interests and go their separate ways?

Executive Producer Jo Sargent says: “We were so excited to see what this series had in store and Miranda Hart has exceeded expectations with hilarious new material. The whole production has worked so hard to produce something we are all extremely proud of. We were as keen as the audience is to catch up with Miranda and her friends and have loved being part of the process of bringing the stories to life on screen.”

Miranda Hart says: “The first two episodes are quite slow moving establishers compared with previous series and they set up what happens from episode three onwards. There are two new regular characters, quite a few kisses, a couple of celebrity cameos. And that’s all I am saying!”

Miranda just gets better and better. She’s so funny and I love the way she looks into the camera and comments. She’s a really funny person. If you want to watch something light hearted and entertaining – this is it. The romance between her and Gary (Tom Ellis – Mr. Gorgeous!) is ‘such fun’ as Miranda’s mother would say. I hope this continues for a long time as it’s refreshing to watch. A lot of comedies nowadays are terrible, not remotely funny – this, on the other hand, is full of laughs. The fact that Miranda can laugh at herself is one of the best things about it. I settle down with my family to watch this and it entertains all ages. We were rolling up with laughter at yesterdays episode (series 2 episode 3). I won’t say anything to give it away but it was absolutely brilliant!
