Writing science story is a fun !

 Hi Everyone!
I know many of my Ilander friends are very good story
writers .Chaitali and Aravind Das for example. Therefore I find it hard to
resist my temptation to invite them and my other Ilander friends who are
equally talented but have not exhibited their talent of a story writer as yet.]

They are all invited to the wonderful world of science fiction [sf] writing.
Believe me friends, it's a very joyful activity and let me convince you I am
not just joking. Like many other stories sf also contains all the elements of a
typical story but it is usually set against future not against our own societal
backgrounds. It's anachronous in nature! For example, if you are watching a
film depicting Gandhi ji as its main  protagonist and find that he is working at a
computer with fingers moving fast on the keyboard or for that matter Lord Rama
is seen driving a Mercedes!. Both scenes are anachronous in nature, out of
time! An sf is just that known more for its background than the content. And it
is that characteristic of sf which makes it damn easy for a beginner sf writer!

You write any story and give it an anachronous setting and
it shall be an sf! You imagine a sport in zero gravity of space in a picnic
party it would be a sf. Or something of a routine husband wife tiff in an environment
not familiar to us today it would be again an sf. Yes you have to weave a plot
usual to stories but in a setting against a non familiar background! And of
course a little bit understanding of basic science would enhance the joy of the
game. Like playing in zero gravity would require a specially designed space suite
and some rules and regulations so that the football is not lost during the game
as mere a jerk/kick in a wrong direction[ if there is sense of direction at all
]would throw the ball to the brim of universe!

Let me recapitulate that any mystery, murder, suspense,
detective and jungle stories could be altered in sf provided you change its
background from a familiar to non familiar one keeping the characters and other
many elements of the story known and familiar to us.
Why not try your hand at an sf story  yourself?

See how simple is
it! Do not hesitateto write your  maiden sf and contribute to the enrichment of the
genre which remains very much neglected in India.

Good Wishes,

arvind

    Dear Sir,

Its a wonderful invitation for short story writing (Sf). Your article will definitly inspire readers to look into this aspect of writing. It will also help to revive this art in a country like India, where many literary genius are born. The article is wonderfully brought about and is praiseworthy. To be very true, after going through it, I also thought of writing a piece of story of my own. Hope I can do it! Besides, though I haven”t gone through blog of Mr. Arvind Das and Chaitali as mentioned in your articles first para, but will also look into it.
Thanks a lot also sir, for inspiring us in those activities, which needed attention.
