Science fiction In Hindi

The roots of Hindi sci fi could be traced in  Indian mythological stories-stories of heaven and hells,various incarnations, intergeneric surgical skills[Lord Ganesh!],Clones[birth of Kauravas ] and the like but genre sci fi in its real sense appears to have originated in 1884 with Aasharya Vrittant[a strange tale] written by a famous litterateur Pandit Ambika Datta Vyasa in Peeyush Pravah,a popular contemporary Hindi magzine.It appears to have set a trend in Hindi literature following the publication of Chandralok ki Yatra in Sarswiti,yet another reputed magzine, in 1900.Notwithstanding such an early start this relatively new literary genre could not attract the attention of Hindi litterati belts for long despite the ardent appeals of some stalwarts of Hindi literature like Rahul Sankrityayan.Acharya Chatursen Shastri and Dr Samurnanand.
Rahul Sanskrityayan himself wrote a beautiful sci fi in1924 in order to break the ice entitled ‘Baisvee Sadi[The Twenty second century].Likewise Acharya Chatursen Shastri wrote Khgraas[Total Eclipse ]which appeared  in serial form in Dharmyug in 1959.But it took long time to get this genre established in an organised way of writing in Hindi and it was only with advent of Yamunadatt Vaishnav ’Ashok’,Naval Bihari Mishra on the scene that it got a real impetus and  momentum.More next…

Musings on Science Fiction{S.F.}

Many of us are not aware what science fiction is all about! It’s a literary genre originated in west in its present form and now getting recognition and momentum in India.As a literary genre it describes the future of man and human society in a lucid story telling style,but of course with a scietific background.Its infact man’s literary response/reaction to the real as well as imaginery impacts of science and technology on humanity.This usually does not entail a plot or charecters of contemporary society as is case in our familiar social fictions,but depicts settings of a
possible/probable world not in existence in present world.
Much of it{ie S.F.} today!Looks boring!Isn’t it?But is any one interested in this queer field?Welcome please!
