Appreciation

No matter who we are or what our actions may say, we all want to be recognized and appreciated. I often quote Lou Holtz, the famous Notre Dame Coach, who said, "Why is it that the people who need love, (appreciation), and understanding the most usually deserve it the least?"

Jaime Escalante, the teacher on whom the movie Stand and Deliver was based, tells an amazing story about a mistaken identity and the difference it made in a young man's life.

This teacher had two students in his class who were both named Johnny. One Johnny was an excellent student, a happy child, and always had his homework completed on time. The other Johnny was always in trouble, never had his work finished, and generally made the teacher's life miserable.

The night of their first PTA Open House of the year a mother stayed after the meeting to ask about her son, Johnny, and how he was getting along in the class. Assuming it was the mother of the "good" Johnny, the teacher replied, "I can't tell you how much I appreciate him. I am so glad he's in my class."

The next day, for the first time all year, the "problem" Johnny had all his work done, he spoke up in class, and never once caused a disruption. He even volunteered to help another student. The teacher was astounded!

At the end of the day when everyone else had left, "problem" Johnny came up to the teacher and said, "My Mom told me what you said about me last night. I haven't ever had a teacher who wanted me in his class."

That Johnny became one of the best students the teacher ever had ' and all because of a mistaken dose of appreciation!

No matter who we are and what our situation in life is, we all want and need to be appreciated.

WHERE IS GOD?

Once upon a time, a monk wearing the ochre robe chanced to enter a village full of atheists. He fell in with a gang of defiant youth who challenged him to show them that the God, whom he was adoring, actually existed. He said he could, but before doing so, he asked for a cup of milk.

When the milk was placed before him, he did not drink it. He sat looking at it, long and silently with increasing curiosity. The youths became impatient. Their clamor became insistent.

The monk told them, "Wait a minute. I am told that there is butter in milk. I must say this cup does not have it, for I do not see any of it, however hard I look into it!"

The fellows laughed at his innocence and said, "Silly man! Don't rush to such absurd conclusions. Milk has butter in every drop. That is what makes it so nourishing.

If you must see it as a separate, concrete entity, you have to boil the milk, cool it, add sour curd, wait for some hours for it to curdle, then churn it and roll the butter that floats into a ball."

"Ah," said the monk, "that makes my task of showing you God much easier! God is in everything, every being and atom of the Universe. It is because of this that they exist and we can cognize them and enjoy them.

To see Him as a concrete entity, you have to follow a prescribed procedure, earnestly, strictly, and sincerely. Then at the end of it all, you can experience His Grace and His Glory."

Journey & Destination

JOURNEY AND DESTINATION.

“It’s like that classic story of the young boy who travelled far

From his home to study under a great teacher. When he met the

Wise old man, his first question was, ‘How long will it take me

Before I am as wise as you?’

“The response came swiftly, ‘Five years.’

“‘This is a very long time,’ the boy replied. ‘How about if I

Work twice as hard?’

‘”Then it will take ten,’ said the master.

‘”Ten! That’s far too long. How about if I studied all day and

Well into the night, every night?’

‘”Fifteen years,’ said the sage.

“‘I don’t understand,’ replied the boy. ‘Every time I promise to

Devote more energy to my goal, you tell me that it will take longer.

Why?’

‘”The answer is simple. With one eye fixed on the destination, there is only one left to guide you along the journey’”

BRAIN MACHINE

DEAR ALL

A new technology in Japan could let you control electronic devices without lifting a finger simply by reading brain activity.

The Brain Machine Interface analyses slight changes in the brain’s blood flow and translates brain motion into electric signals.

The Brain machine interface is a technology called optical topography, which sends a small amount of infrared light through the brain’s surface to map out changes in blood flow.

Hitachi scientist are set to develop a brain TV remote controller letting users turn a TV on and off or switch channels by only Thinking.

The technology could one day replace remote controls and keyboards and perhaps help disabled people operate electric wheelchairs, beds or artificial limbs.

just blue sky - act of kindness

NO GLASS CEILING, JUST BLUE SKY

Kindness, as Mother Teresa so beautifully said, is the only language that we all understand. We've all heard the saying, "What goes around comes around," and the following true story is a wonderful reminder of how simple acts of kindness can come back to us when we least expect it.

His name was Fleming, and he was a poor Scottish farmer. One day, while trying to make a living for his family, he heard a cry for help coming from a nearby bog. He dropped his tools and ran to the bog. There, mired to his waist in black muck, was a terrified boy, screaming and struggling to free himself. Farmer Fleming saved the lad from what could have been a slow and terrifying death.

The next day, a fancy carriage pulled up to the Scotsman's sparse surroundings. An elegantly dressed nobleman stepped out and introduced himself as the father of the boy Farmer Fleming had saved.

"I want to repay you," said the nobleman. "You saved my son's life." "No, I can't accept payment for what I did," the Scottish farmer replied, waving off the offer. At that moment, the farmer's own son came to the door of the family home.

"Is that your son?" the nobleman asked.

"Yes," the farmer replied proudly.

"I'll make you a deal. Let me provide him with the level of education my own son will enjoy. If the lad is anything like his father, he'll no doubt grow to be a man we both will be proud of." And that he did. Farmer Fleming's son attended the very best schools and, in time, graduated from St. Mary's Hospital Medical School in London, and went on to become known throughout the world as the noted Sir Alexander Fleming, the discoverer of Penicillin.

Years afterward, the same nobleman's son who was saved from the bog, was stricken with pneumonia.

What saved his life this time? Penicillin.

The name of the nobleman? Lord Randolph Churchill. His son's name? Sir Winston Churchill.

I shall pass through this world but once. Any good, therefore, that I can do or any kindness I can show to any human being, let me do it now…for I shall not pass this way again. –William Penn

Abraham Lincoln was elected to Congress in 1846.
John F. Kennedy was elected to Congress in 1946.

Abraham Lincoln was elected President in 1860.
John F. Kennedy was elected President in 1960.

Both were particularly concerned with civil rights.
Both wives lost their children while living in the White House.

Both Presidents were shot on a Friday.
Both Presidents were shot in the head.

Now it gets really weird.

Lincoln's secretary was named Kennedy.
Kennedy’s Secretary was named Lincoln.

Both were assassinated by Southerners.
Both were succeeded by Southerners named Johnson.

Andrew Johnson, who succeeded Lincoln , was born in 1808.
Lyndon Johnson, who succeeded Kennedy, was born in 1908.

John Wilkes Booth, who assassinated Lincoln , was born in 1839.
Lee Harvey Oswald, who assassinated Kennedy, was born in 1939.

Both assassins were known by their three names.
Both names are composed of fifteen letters.

Now hang on to your seat.

Lincoln was shot at the theatre named ‘Ford.’
Kennedy was shot in a car called ‘ Lincoln ‘ made by ‘Ford.’

Lincoln was shot in a theatre and his assassin ran and hid in a warehouse.
Kennedy was shot from a warehouse and his assassin ran and hid in a theatre.

Booth and Oswald were assassinated before their trials.

And here’s the kicker…

A week before Lincoln was shot, he was in Monroe, Maryland
A week before Kennedy was shot, he was with Marilyn Monroe.

INNERLIGHT

Allow Your Own Inner Light to Guide You

1. There comes a time when you must stand-alone.

2. You must feel confident enough within yourself to follow your own dreams.

3. You must be willing to make sacrifices.

4. You must be capable of changing and rearranging your priorities so that your final goal can be achieved.

5. Sometimes, familiarity and comfort need to be challenged.

6. There are times when you must take a few extra chances and create your own realities.

7. Be strong enough to at least try to make your life better.

8. Be confident enough that you won’t settle for a compromise just to get by.

9. Appreciate yourself by allowing yourself the opportunities to grow, develop, and find your true sense of purpose in this life.

10.Don’t stand in someone else’s shadow when it’s your sunlight that should lead the way

RULES FOR BEING HUMAN

RULES FOR BEING HUMAN

* You will receive a body. You may like it or hate it, but it’s yours to keep for the entire period.

* You will learn lessons. You are enrolled in a full-time, informal school called life.

* There are no mistakes, only lessons. Growth is a process of trial, error and experimentation.

* The “failed” experiments are as much a part of the process as the experiments that ultimately “work”.

* Lessons are repeated until they are learned. A lesson will be presented to you in various forms until you have learned it.

* When you have learned it, you can go on to the next lesson.

* Learning lessons does not end. There is no part of life that doesn’t contain it’s lessons.

* If you’re alive, there are still lessons to be learned.

* “There” is no better than “here”. When your “there” has become “here”, you will simply obtain another “there” that will again look better than “here”.

* Other people are merely mirrors of you. You can not love or hate something about another person unless it reflects to you something you love or hate about yourself.

* What you make of your life is up to you. You have all the tools and resources you need.

* What you do with them is up to you. The choice is yours.
