  23. Think Tank says

Only because of Gandhiji, he came to be interested in politics and came to fight for freedom. So we can take it that he lacked “inner instinct”.

After a generation or two, the real “rich man’s disease” was aroused in his family and now the family is all about its lust for power. Gandhiji was a Saint. And you know, Sainthood doesn’t have inheritance based on blood or genes. Inheritance of sainthood is in their disciples – a shishya takes the position of a teacher – not his son. Hence, the real Gandhi’s family suffered…

What do you think about this?

    Regards,
    Rahul

  24. Think Tank says

Very good observation :) But I think it is not about daughter Vs son thing. Though in politics sons have better chances of getting swayed away when they get infected with pride and start abusing power while daughters are always insecure about their inheritance, and by nature they are more loyal too and hence are more likely to remain on the lineage.

This is more about the values the two families inculcated.

Both Gandhiji and Nehruji went abroad to study. Gandhiji started fighting for the poor there in Africa itself. What he did in India was continuation of his work. He kept growing, spiritually, and was almost a Saint when he departed.

Nehru was the son of a landlord. They had migrated out of Kashmir a long time back, so we can suspect he had lost his roots to some extent. He was a rayis, a rich man’s son. He enjoyed life and when he came back to India, started his practice as a money making thing.

    (contd..)
