The show on the
TV “Balika Vadu“, is an eye opener for all the parents who
think that a girl child is a burden and that she should be married and sent to
her in-laws as soon as possible. The day a girl child is born in a rural
area the parents are worried about her marriage and dowry. It is a worst thing
that happens to a new born who has just stepped into this world and not even
opened her eyes yet.
In today's age when gov't is giving chance for the girl child to grow and
study, then how this cowardly practise is still going on.It should be totally
eradicated from the root itself. And any one found doing such act should be
penalised severely.Infact each and every girl child should be given
proper knowledge about the ill effects of early marriage and its consequences. Also
the parents of every girl child should me made aware of this and should be made
to commit that they will not let it happen to them or any near or dear
ones.Gov't and private bodies can come ahead for the purpose and give such info
through the much famous method such as audio/video presentations etc.

very sensitive post !
I agree with venkataramana.. there is a total lack of awareness among women about their legal and other rights. if its incorporated ins chool lessons, everyone wud be sentisied about the issue early on in life, which will have a deep impact
thanks for the nice post and the view expressed by u. there are several laws to protect the child marriages, but the govt is not enforcing them strictly. lacs of marriages are being solomanised by the educated/illeterate families in the northen states. education to the girls in the need of the hour to oppose this act . hope that people will think over it ……
serials shows and soap operas are not the solution for eradicating this barbaric menace and atrocity against humanity…A chapter ought to be incorporated in the school and college syllabi highlighting the social, legal and other socio-economic implications of such a wrongful, evil, criminal practice.May all men in power exhibit their respect towards women of this great country by firstly bringing in the women’’s quota bill …eventually, this particular issue will be addressed and adequately tackled by them.
we have double standards- the show is popular because it is showing yet another “sas-bahu” conflict under the guise of a plagiarised title. however gauri-dan (giving the child away) is prevalent even today, and needs to be got rid of!
fighting for a right cause. keep going..
truly, one should take a step forward to stop such evil acts….
nice post…
mai serial nahi dekhta hu… but charche jaroor sune hai ess serial ke…. thanx 4 ur good thought
You are correct in your analyses. But in India, this an age-old social problem. There should be a mass movement for a change in social beliefs and attitudes. Mere government regulations and isolated efforts will not suffice because this is a deep routed malady. Why rural India, even the educated, socalled elite class also ill-treat girl children, especially in North-Indian States.
right…the attitudes of parents need to be changed before anything else… bias against the female child exists even today in many parts of india…much as we try to project ourselves as the nation of tomorrow….
absolutely correct… i agree with your Opinion…. your post is also eye opener post…
Well, problems are there, but from the Ladies R-iLanders Friends I can proudly declare that Time is changed…. so males also have to change…..
