New Look Rediff - A test
Had a sort of a detailed dekho at the new-look ‘improved’ version of this platform. I actually like it. It has a lot of features which are quite similar to WordPress.
However, some bugs remain. If they manage to remove/fix them, I am sure this place can rock again.
Random test with fonts, colours, highlighting and crap. Image too?
Oops! It actually reduces the size (dimensions) of the image. Will give it another go after sometime.

Been a while now, so this is NOT s knee jerk reaction.. “Not so New” Rediffland is far from “Improved”. Gives me the claustrophobic feel of Newage Neighbourhoods with so much Hi Tech Security that robs you of the chummy neighbourhood feel of yore…. But glad you’re still Here~~!
1I agree with PGR that the old feel
2There are still a lot of bugs and navigational issues in iland. I too am getting accepted to this one. I had a lot of correspondence with the guy. I am concerned that they are a bit tardy in resolving the bugs. They have commissioned the new site and have disappeared. Still the old feel and warmth is missing here. A bit of dampness persists. Glad to see that you are back VT. Hope you would continue with your uproarious posts…..PGR
3All recommendations fixed on this post , some more things coming in soon - Keep checking http://blogs.rediff.com/rediffblogshelp/
4HEy finally I reached u. Why does this show me an edit option on your page? Ignore mail please. I m surprised that one can actually find another without knowing urls or seeing them elsewhere.
I m still tryiong to figure out this comments thingie.
Nice to see u back.
Regards
Misty
5Hi VT. Glad to see you’ve made a spirited come back.:-)(No pun intended). You’ve pretty much covered all the problems being encountered here. I hope they act on them. At least the place has become a lit more friendlier than the initial days . Was feeling totally frustrated then. Happy blogging
6u jus snatched the words from my keypad should i say VT. lols.. u have covered most of the points that i have discovered till now as nischal says. the ‘g’ factor is peculiar only to this theme. other themes dont have this prob. u can choose to change the theme VT. as for the 2 sites not showing correctly is again a problem with the respective themes. i think that they might display the content properly if they change the themes. to be honest i liked this theme which nischal chose and promptly changed to it. but am open to change it in future if some other theme has a better interface.
7thanks to my `old’ and trusted `honest pardner’, am slowly getting to feel the new and improved version; will take some time, though, i guess!
8I find this place pretty sad really….don’t get to meet the old friends the way Iland allowed us to….I feel very “alone” here…
9just got to see your suggestions! will check them out soon. i want to believe you when you say that this rediff version is better! regards, dilip
10ah.. i can see you’ve covered everything so far… as for the “G” you can try other templates… they do have pretty good ones there.
let’s hope rediff listens to you and does something. (:
11My yesterday’s comments have not appeared in full, VT. Instead of sending e-mail alerts in respect of posts of friends etc, the Rediff people have tried to merge information reg. Blogs, Q
12My today’s comments also seem to have been cut, VT. Pl. go throught my post dated 18th December, titiled New Rediff Blog.
13@ Rajesh. I agree, it is a lot more niftier now, more contemporary, as u say. They should still call it a beta version actually. It still is buggy.
I actually got a mail from a rediff guy (Blog Mgr) asking for feedback and comments. This is what I wrote back. Are there any other peeves?
(1) The ‘display name’ in the comment section does not hyperlink to the commentator’s blog. It must. (This problem exists with any new comment that has been put in the new version).
(2) The old (existing) comments do connect to the old blogs.
(3) I tried to upload an image; it compressed the dimensions of the image. I think the image upload and display options need to be thoroughly tested.
(4) The blog display templates (the Appearance, as you call it) are not consistent and is buggy. For example http://blogs.rediff.com/sugarspice/2009/07/ and http://blogs.rediff.com/abitofsunshine/ both of them do not display the blogs correctly. What is “To put some content here, go to Site Admin -> Appearance/Presentation -> Widgets -> Select “Left Sidebar” -> Click “Show” -> Click on “Add” on one of the widgets on the left side -> Click “Save changes” -> Done” etc appearing on the page?
(5) Any new posts added to my existing contacts’ blogs in my ‘Friends List’ does not send me an email alert as it used to send earlier in rediffiland.
(6) If I land into anyone’s “Profile” page, there is no way I can naviagte to that person’s blog. (This is critical. I should be able to naviagate to their blog).
(7) I can not navigate to the commentator’s blog from the Guest Book.
(8) The comments in general should display the date and time. At this moment, it does not.
(9) The image that you show along with the comment (a kind of an inverted ‘G’) is not cool at all. Ideally it should display the commentator’s profile picture.
Let’s see what they make it out to be.
14i like the more no. of control options available to the user as now.. and have noticed a few bugs (which is a typical rediff feature.. they jus cant live without them.. lols) too… this site looks more contemporary, professional etc. etc. only thing i miss is that there we used to call each other iLanders.. that was something very cool and unique…. but anyways.. i am all happy to see u back in the business of blogging pal.. very very happy in fact. expecting to hear from u regularly like before.
15This is perhaps the first post in praise of new Rediff!! The new rediff may be having good looks, but it is a total failure, VT. They have tried to merge blogs, Q
