PLATO IN TOTO?

The Republic has come a long way.Not PLato’s book nor is it of any other concept of State and Politics.I refer to the sixty-second anniversary of the Indian Republic,one of whom I am proud as a citizen and an Ambassador of Humanity .Despite the murky tales which do the round [courtesy,the popular media]of corruption and avarice;of slumdog millionaires and slum-wellers ,INDIA is a Nation to watch out by the rest of the World .Not merely for the sheer size f its population ,human resources,work-force,nativity or unique Constitutional framework where a federal structure cushions the shocks and eccentricities of a multi-religious cauldron in the name of being a Socialist,Secular,Democratic Republic but also since it is one country that has come of age .
As prez.Obama announced in his joint address a few weeks ago to the Indian Parliament ,India is a nation which has ‘emerged’ from the mist of suspicion,distance and mystrey towards an era of joint Treaties ,Pacts and Exercises for World Peace,Amity and Unity .
It is a Republic comprising of 31 States, 1618 Languages, 6400 Castes, 6 Religions, 6 Ethnic Groups, 29 Major Festivals and a billion-strong mass of HUmanity !
It is one country where Hospitality and Humility go hand in glove with Exploration of humanities and Arts even as Science and Technology take a quantum leap to keep strides with the most advanced of Nations.
All things considered,January 26th marks the day of adoption of the sacred Constitution of India in order to amalgamae the diversities in a united new Nation carved by separating the erstwhile British-Raj ,a mini-empire where the sun never set under the Union Jack-flag!
Constitution of India has several remarkable features such as the guaranteed fundamental rights spanning all important spheres of existence of Mankind even as ‘Directive Principles of State Policy’ are unenforceable but laid down to act as a beacon light of Statecraft.Special care has been taken to provide for both transitional powers and permanent powers to be exercised by the three pillars of the Democraic set-up,viz; Legislature,Executive and Judiciary .Constitutional offices created by the Constitution ensure accountability and free interaction and monitoring by those enabled and in the know of the rule of Law .
Constitutional safeguards and democratic systems of procedures evolved therefrom do not permit anti-social and anti-national elements from succeeding in a sinister design to break the fabric of ‘one nation,one peoples’!Thishas been evident thrughout several testing instances of external aggression and internal strife witnessed as the young Nation evolved over the last six decades of its formation.
INDIA is one testimony of the co-existence of Humanity in an uneven world and uncertain times of our Age and Time of History .
Without delving deep into the finer aspects of the Republic,I would rest my case by reading through the many personal accounts of Happiness and Joyful memories related by every world citizen who has landed in this former mystical land of the rope trick, the rajahs ,the queens, the lush green fields and spices of food and dietary delights but ended up with marvellous accounts of the rich cultures, dances, costumes, traditions and more significantly reliable business systems in place giving scope to earn plenty of profits and with absolute respectability and Honour…!
I rest my case with a call to one and all around the world to not to be [mis] led by negative accounts of bigoted or partisan mindsets which seem to rule roost of late.Happy Republic Day to all of India and all REpublics whom Plato envisaged and several successive generations of Statesmen and Founding FAthers of Nations experimented upon - for the sake of posterity and Peace On EArth!
