Above program on space science will be telecasted tonight (18 January 2009) on the National Geographic Channel at 8 pm, as part of the ‘Brand New Sunday’ show. I wanted to give a proper link to the site http://www.natgeotv.co.in; but the schedule given on this site is totally messed up and not the actual schedule. In fact I am a bit annoyed with this. However the above schedule looks like is the correct schedule as I have taken it from the trailers on the channel. I am planning to watch the program if nothing else comes up at the last moment and also planning to write another post on the same, if I get time. Over past several years I have enjoyed watching Nat Geo and Discovery channels and I feel most of the information I have about our planet and the universe has come from these two.
Another program on space science, I watched on Nat Geo was on the 4th of January 2009, titled 'To the edge of the universe'. It was a two hour program and the most exhilarating experience of any kind of TV viewing that I have ever had. When at 9 pm I came to know that the program is not one hour, but two hour long I almost jumped with joy. And the program did not disappoint me. The program was a journey form earth to the edge (say a conceptual periphery or end) of the universe. And during this journey the narrator was describing whatever objects we expect to encounter, combined with amazing visuals. It included all planets in our solar system, nearest stars to the earth after Sun (4 and 20 light years away) and then the objects further away than that like pulsars, supernovas, black holes, other galaxies etc. If I recollect correctly it was around 9 pm that the journey to limits of our solar system ended and then started a captivating exploration of the rest of the universe.
Watch tonight's program if it interests you and if you get time. Let me know how you liked it, if you do.
:) happy singh.. naaaaa jiya lage na… bina tere bawari se raahaa jaye naaaa…
I watched three episodes on Hubble Telescope, Monster at the center and To the edge of universe. NatGeo is pretty good and I loved the shows. However a lot of the visuals/images shown in the episodes can be seen using http://www.worldwidetelescope.org
Space is a fascinating frontier and puts into perspective the brevity, fraility and the infinitesmally nano size of Man’’s existence, and his significance in the larger scheme of things. I think space teaches us humility.
Thanks for the news…but my bad luck..read it too late! Any retelecast date?
Thnx for your invitation but will not be able to catch it as I have some other engagement.
But yes,I am very interested in space science though the interest is that of a layman’’s…
Can you post something on this…?
I am out at a friend’’s place. So can”t do much today. Maybe, will catch up on youtube or DVD later. Thanks for the info.
no TV, no Nat-Geo :)
I like to wath animal kingdom… This cosmos, galaxies, univerese and unlimite time and space resulting into non-comprehensive Eterniy…. It is all boring and mind-boggling…..
