In the movie Ghajini, there is a scene in which Aamir is travelling in a bus. A police inspector is chasing him and the inspector fails to catch the bus. Aamir is looking out of the bus and camera captures ex-pression on his face. That ex-pression says a lot. Aamir has done it very well. Because of that look we feel convinced; that this is a person who forgets everything in 15 minutes. I don't know about others but I felt that way. It is as if god has just splashed some water on his mind and wiped away all stupid memories; making him look fresh, like a new born.
When a human child is born, it is helpless. It can not even hold its head still. Slowly through the years it gains strength; slowly becomes able to take care of it self; till then parents take care of the baby. That is not the case with other animals. New born of many of the other animals are able to stand up on their feet, the moment they are born. They are fully grown, ready to face the world the moment they are born, a little weak though. I was just wondering if a human baby was born like this, fully grown, directly able to stand up on its feet, ready to walk, this would be the ex-pression on its face; blank totally blank. Like a totally empty canvas, ready to be splashed colours on.
When I watched this scene in trailers I liked it and even more while watching the movie. But I felt a connection between a meditative state and that look when I was practising some meditation myself. Random thoughts keep moving through our minds always, but sometimes it becomes a bit too much. At such times I tend to use a general meditative technique of watching the thoughts. So when I was watching my thoughts, one day I felt that I am looking around at things in a specific way; looking at things in a way that is less contaminated by thoughts. At this moment Ghajini's scene came to my mind and I remembered the look on Aamir's face. I thought the way I was looking around; that look must be something similar to Aamir's look.
After TZP and Ghajini; I have started to consider Aamir as a very good actor. God knows what Aamir did to get that look; whether he used some meditation or simply his imagination.
Welcome, to the wondrous world of Aamir’’s magical performances! Each and every role from his first in yesteryear’’s .Yaadon Ki Baraat, to the over hyped C
Ghajini…Aamir has always been nothing short of brilliant.~~! Go check it out…in his array of films…..Never mind the movie…. Aamir ALWAYS puts in a A+ performanc~~….
Short version is an Innova advt he did a year or so back… It showcased characters from his considerable repertoire of films… Each time a character appears…. the viewer thinks… “Tapori/ Raja/ Bhuvan/ ACP Rathore/ Mangal Pandey/” etc.. Never ONCE does ”Aamir Khan” come to mind.. Getting UNDER the skin of each character. and BECOMing him…That is the essence of his genius… ~~! But u got that in a meditative, moment’’s FLASH… Stay with it…
GOOD ONE…………..
Wish we had a ”recycle bin” in our brain too… to empty the contents we would not like to use in future and a ”refresh” button too to get that look like on Aamir’’s face whenever we wish!! Haven”t watched Ghajini, someone told its too violent and just about revenge, but could visualise the look on his face from what you said… nevertheless am a fan of aamir since his QSQT days, and TZP touched my heart to the maximum
Aamir has been a long time favorite to me, since around his performance in Ghulam. Except Raja Hindustani and Fanaa, both of which by the way were major hits, he put in a tremendous amount of effort in the rest, and just kept getting better. Still, TZP was an unexpectedly good work for me :) I wasn”t expecting that quality in there.
Vinay, Surely… Please write a post on this and let me know when you do. Even I feel this urge to write separate posts in response to other ilander’’s post. That’s because this limit of thousand letters is too small sometimes when I need to say much more in response. So far I have done this once. Regarding the discussion on meditation send me an email and let me know on my guestbook. Re. VR
Congratulations !!
A very concise thought-provoking post by you. I felt like ex-pressing my reaction in some 2 or 3 pages (honestly !) and I wish to write it in my blog, if you permit. There are several points about meditation that we may discuss, but that should be a private talk between you and me only.
Thanks !
