I’m fine, VR, with a little suffering that i am trying to patiently overcome :) Thanks for dropping in. I followed the link you provided and also the ones you mentioned on your comment to that blog. Both are pool of knowledge. I think I am going to add Sahiti on my friend’s list soon. I did go through a few chapters of few books on Oshoworld too…. hope all these help me learn a bit… and I hope you are doing fine..

  4. bidisha says

I like to read Osho’s teachings. Although what I have read are mere sprinkles of the droplets from the fountain. I got to read a few articles written by one of his disciples and had since been pretty impressed with the thoughts forwarded to improve the self and gain a better outlook of the world around. I would like to read more… could you suggest me any book… i like to read it from a book form… Thanks.

  5. bidisha says

    :) ..Thanks

hahahahI enjoyed ur response to my comments! wel you are extremely wel read and ‘erudite” ( i say it positively)

  7. ThoughtWorks says

I think Freedom Unbound is a better person to say which Vivekananda’s books to read! But “Life of Vivekananda” and “Gospel of Sri Ramakrishna” are two books by Romain Rolland which I think are must reads for starts.

  8. ThoughtWorks says

I don’t vouch for the accuracy of that story abt Ramakrishna but just wanted to say that I believe giving up ‘all’ desires is the last steps. For a lot of us, as vivekananda says, we need to first change our iron chains to golden ones before we even give up the golden chain that binds us. Trying to do the last one first puts us in some weird states unless we finished iron–> gold conversion in the last birth :) But that is just my opinion…

  9. lakshmi menon says

that s a very nice interpretation and more convincing and clear.thank you so much.

And unlike some self-proclaimed followers of enlightened human beings, I don’t call people I feel unhappy with stupid or egoistic (not that I think having an ego is wrong). I think I can be wrong, and can be stupid. So if I don’t get along with somebody, I just split. Furthermore, I give equal weightage to a statement of Einstein, Buddha, Osho, Ice Candy, Virtual Reality, Thoughtworks or anybody else and analyze each independently. I don’t assume that just because somebody disagrees with Einstein, he is wrong on relativity. BTW, I always try to be honest and direct. I don’t choose specific instances to be that.

Now, continue the long wait that you don’t mind, and hope that the important thing (my coming out) happens. You must be having a lot of company there. But I think my ego (and what you think is my stupidity) will stay with me. Let’s see.

  14. Sarath Chandra says

Yes, I think I understand what you think you “realized”.

Since my teens, people (and many in my closest family) have been waiting for me “realize” something like what you are trying to say. They hoped that I would realize it once I get out of school and go to college; I didn’t. And then they predicted I will realize it once I start my career work; I didn’t. Then they predicted the occassion to be after marriage; I still didn’t. Now, some are waiting for kids to come, and some are waiting for a big problem to knock me into realizing that something. Maybe, there is something. I don’t know. But there’s a crowd waiting outside. You can join it.–>

  15. bidisha says

Ple-a-se… I beg you not to make me a subject of controversy! I just forwarded what I felt I knew about difference between need and desire. On practical front, I do desire for a bigger house, a bigger car, two vacations every year :)), lots of new clothes, shoes, jewelleries….. etc etc…. honestly..

  16. Sarath Chandra says

Keep waiting. It might be a very long wait.

  17. avantika bhaskar says

Well not really.. had joined last year, was here for a few months but then retracted due to some reasons.. and I did make a comment once in your guest book if I recall well..
    Thanks for your comments :)

I too put my son to watch Animal Planet after he is done with his daily study hour.. he needs to know something beyond Cartoon Network and Pogo :), and then join him. I liked Fear Factor hosted by Akshay Kumar.. that was really thrilling and some great stunts done by those svelte ladies/models!!

And, liked your frank comment. Nevertheless, I wish to continue with the copy-paste job too for some time. I did it primarily for myself, but happy to see the number of people liking it.. so…

  19. bidisha says

In a virtual world age, sex, race, caste, colour, creed doesn’t seem to matter much anyway.. after all its a meeting place of minds only. and minds can be forever young :)

  20. bidisha says

Your comment set me into thinking once again. First let me thank you for that. “Can we make the change take place a little faster? Can we?” Let me try to put my understanding forward, and then I am open to corrections. Actually what I have to say would probably amount to one full length post. Prima facie, if we believe that everything, every little event in the universe is unfolding according to a pre-conceived plan, that when we shall be eating or when we shall be sleeping is also predestined like when we shall be born or finally depart, then probably the response to your question would be nothing but “No”, and the last two sentences in my post would become meaningless.

But, although I believe that everything in the universe is preordained, I have a feeling that only the major events in existence are programmed or only the rules of cause and effects are laid down but the smaller events leading to the major events are not programmed in totality and ‘we’, the beings with intelligence, can have some role there. I derive this dual stand on programming of the events in the universe from the mere fact that – a child has no control over his birth. S/he is born out of someone else’s plan who also plans out some kind of future for her/him and helps her/him wholeheartedly if s/he treads in a path that conforms to the plan chosen by her/his guardian. But the guardian does not keep observing nor directing each and every step of the child as it grows. They only keep an eye over whether the child’s activities are conforming to the overall plan. Over time the child may or may not stick to the plan chosen for him by his guardian and could take a number of steps on her/his own that would impact her/his future and existence. If the steps despite being different from what her/his guardians planned are favourable and is capable of bringing in similar desired result to the child’s life the guardian does not mind. But in the process the time required to realize the ultimate desired result may vary from the original plan. Similarly in our existence the mega events producing joy and sorrow, happiness and hardships probably are pre-planned but exactly when they would occur and for how long and how deep they would impact us or how soon we would come out of it seems somewhat controllable by us. We do not have little bit of control over when to be born and neither on when to die, but I have started believing that we can control to some extent how we wish to die.

I could not say it in fewer words. Thanks for bearing with me :)

I also wish to put forth my take on “How about not trying to make any change whatsoever in whatever is, allowing whatever changes are happening according to the wish (or rules) of god (or existence).” If we take the case of a woman who had been a simple house-wife and a mother of one or two young child who meets with misfortune and is now a widow/divorcee. Would the stand of not trying to change whatsoever in whatever is, just watching the changes as it happen, work out in this situation too? For how long? Ultimately, won’t she have to get up proactively and do something to bail herself and her children out of the misfortune? According to me her actions would determine whether the changes would happen early or later. And if we live our whole life by just observing the existence and the changes in it, without trying to contribute or change anything, what happens to the mental and physical faculties that we are born with which can be used for some good cause? Doesn’t it go waste? If it goes waste doesn’t it mean we are letting some nature’s gift go waste?… I am so confused… :)

  21. Sarath Chandra says

VR, I defined my views on god in “God - Identity, Purpose, and Modus Operandi” and the “Creator-Creation Equation”, both of which can be found in my Index. Simply, I’d say god is the state of the universe without creation (alternatively, god became creation). As for the differences between living and non-living, I am working on a concept that all multi-fundamental-particle systems can be classified as conscious. We respond to external stimuli. Plants, though much less complex than animals, are also classified as conscious. Same way virus. What I think any 2 body system responds to external stimuli, and so is conscious. The difference is only in degree. The degree of consciousness in that 2 body system is so low that we don’t classify it as conscious. The degree increases with increase in number of particles and design complexity in the system. A further definition of life is the system has to reproduce itself. But that is life, not consciousness.

Hi… I think by mistake you have posted the msg for Jerome in my GB. Anyways I read some of your blogs… They are good… The way you focus on current issues, your opinion on it… And a good style of writing..

  23. Sarath Chandra says

Anyway, my bottomline is, I think before we start looking up to somebody as spiritual masters, the least we can do is start with an assumption that we don’t know whether he is a spiritual master. If that sounds irreverant, then I am that, and discussions with me will carry that tone. If you don’t like it we can avoid it. I don’t fundamentally differentiate between metaphysics, science, spirituality etc. As I said, I differentiate only between statements backed by reason and those that are not. I have thoughts on fundamental reality, origin of universe, consciousness etc and I don’t assume JK, Osho, or Buddha are enlightended. If you want to go on after knowing this, we’ll continue.

  24. Sarath Chandra says

–> I don’t like to overcomplicate matters, as anybody else, where there is no reason to. Wikipedia says metaphysics investigates principles of reality transcending those of any particular science, and its definition of enlightenment implies the grasping of these fundamental principles (and application). For me, metaphysics is not really different from the state of the art physics concepts today. And I feel many spiritual gurus use too profound a language to make it seem all too much for ordinary people to understand, and I also feel many of them use reverse hypnosis to make people perceive mental stresses and pressures that don’t actually exist and make a career by generating a following; I don’t accuse them of general malice, but sub-conscious errors are a possibility.–>

  25. Sarath Chandra says

VR, Frankly, I wanted to minimize my interactions with you after your response to my comment on your enlightenment post. Spirituality is one issue where I seem to rub people the wrong way, though I don’t think I am wrong (when I do, I will apologize; till then, I act with what I know). I had a similar experience with another guy sometime back when I criticised some guy he accepted as a competent spritual leader. He asked me to go and reflect (on infinity and eternity as I recollect) than talk hastily; I actually thought I reflected and commented.

Anyway, I don’t seem to be getting to discuss anything under that subhead. In a nutshell, for me, there are only two kinds of ideas we can hold; one supported by reason (which includes data) and the other not supported by reason.–>

  26. Sarath Chandra says

VR, I think I conveyed a wrong idea. I did not say I did not like Aamir’s performance in either Fanaa or Raja Hindustani. Both of them do have some fine moments and he was more than adequate.

The man always took it a step higher and in a different direction in each movie, and worked really hard. But, I see these two movies as made to ensure hits and could have been played by any other “star” without loss of too much effect. I don’t think he put in mush effort, nor did he need to, for these two roles. They didn’t “need” him, in my opinion. He was replaceable. Not so, for most of the other movies since Ghulam.

Of course, this is subjective and can never be settled if we disagree. I am only saying I did like Aamir in those 2 movies.

  27. bidisha says

and yes, you’ve got a nice blog.. shall have to come back for more…

About your comment on my other post, well I too had collected the quote from internet and was really awed at it coming from Einstein. And then I had searched for more and found that there are several quotes from the great scientist which reflects the spiritual side him. For example take this one:

“Try and penetrate with our limited means the secrets of nature and you will find that, behind all the discernible concatenations, there remains something subtle, intangible and inexplicable. Veneration for this force beyond anything that we can comprehend is my religion. To that extent I am, in point of fact, religious.” - Albert Einstein, Response to atheist, Alfred Kerr (1927), quoted in The Diary of a Cosmopolitan (1971)

Thanks for dropping into my page and for your meaningful comments.

A life with no past or future and only the present seems really very very pleasant and exciting. Although it is not possible to have a life without past or future, for the very fact that such a thought relaxes our nerves and let us be in harmony with ourselves at the present moment, may be its worth practicing to live like that.. being in the present, just being. But life without dream, hope and goal!! I think only the creator of the universe, if there is one, can live so :) … or the meditative soul who has attained very very high levels of consciousness.. but such a soul also has a goal hasn’t they? The goal of attaining salvation? I would like to know about living without dreams, hope and goal. Does living in the present equate to that?

hey thanks for droppin in and giving ur valuable comments…
memories play a very different roles…happy memories remind us of good times…even though it hurts with the sweet times are gone but it always remind us that life with these sweet memories is worth living…it reminds us tat good people do live…life is really beautiful…bad memories remind us of the experiences..poems are really sweet..few words speaking its own story…

No - spiritual terrorists - it is not a negative comment.. it is just to show the force of their thoughts. and the extreme way in which they deviated from the past teachings and teachers. Who is UG? He is just another awesome guy sometimes better than Osho. http://www.well.com/user/jct/ is a great site to read about him. His statement - “My teaching, if that is the word you want to use, has no copyright. You are free to reproduce, distribute, interpret, misinterpret, distort, garble, do what you like, even claim authorship, without my consent or the permission of anybody.” sums up the man!

  32. ThoughtWorks says

I believe Osho skipped a couple of important steps and not everyone can understand the solution to the Life’s puzzle without those steps. Any chain is a BAD chain, be it gold or iron. Some people break their iron chains and become free and a few replace their iron with gold before they break free. Neither is wrong but the latter one is less dangerous and easy on people. My understanding of what Osho told people is to break free from all chains. Osho and UG are spiritual terrorists. Not everyone can understand some of their great messages without any pitfalls.

  33. ThoughtWorks says

This happens when the Force (Sita) feels extreme pain and longing to get back to the Soul (Rama). And this is IMPOSSIBLE without Will power and our Physical bodies :)

That is the summary of my thoughts. As I said, it might be illogical and irrational. But they are MY thoughts ;-)

  34. ThoughtWorks says

Rama- Our Soul – Knows what is right, follows the instructions of the Father to the T.
Has a brother, Lakshman – Will, in its purest form, Does as the soul wants it!
Sita – Force of soul for leading ‘ideal’ life – Meaning it is what our soul separated from its Father for.
Hanuman – Our physical body – does not know its own strength but when tied to the Soul (Rama) can achieve the stuff that usually sounds impossible
Ravan – Our desires, illegitimate and illicit ones – Have a great power in themselves and are not necessarily bad. Desire is all powerful and in the right direction can even get Shiva’s Atma Linga home.

So the story of Ramayan is simple. Soul wants to work along with its force to lead an ideal life. The Force (away from the Soul becomes directionless) and is lured/deceived by our illicit Desire is hijacked. The Soul then along with its Will (lakshman) power and the support of our Physical Body (Hanuman) retraces the Force and kills the Desires.

Hi VR, you had left an GB entry on space, a subject that interests me a lot. Along with that I am also big time into Sci-Fi and Star Trek is one of my favourite series of all times. Trekkie/Trekker is what Star Trek fans are called. Klingons, Vulcuns and Borgs are the various alien species that show up in Star Trek, so I mentioned them as well. Any program on space make me wonder whether there is intelligent life elsewhere :) Cheers, Jim

Thank you for your comment on my post, ‘Love.’ I agree with you that pain is not an effect of love at all. In fact thats what the blog says, that love has no logical conclusion.. thus it carries on while other feelings dont. The pain refferred to the memories not to love itself.
