Stopping by woods on a snowy evening..

August 4th, 2008

Whose woods these are I think I know.
His house is in the village, though;
He will not see me stopping here
To watch his woods fill up with snow.

My little horse must think it queer
To stop without a farmhouse near
Between the woods and frozen lake
The darkest evening of the year.

He gives his harness bells a shake
To ask if there’s some mistake.
The only other sound’s the sweep
Of easy wind and downy flake
.

The woods are lovely, dark and deep,
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep

This poem by Robert Frost is one of my favourites. I have been found guilty of reciting this one many times behind closed doors of my room, standing in front of the mirror. Although I grew up in city my only solace was every summer I would end up in my nanu’s village…It never snows in south India…but the early morning walk through the woods….sitting on the steps of the nearest pond……the sun rising…the chirping of the birds…the first drops of dew on the grass….the tranquility was my equivalent to the snowy woods….Time and again I have gone into a trance…Thought Ill share this with you all….One more of my all time favorites will be coming up soon too…

  24. Glitterize Your Images

    Beauuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuutiful -

The beauty of the poem is that you feel you are in the woods and you can almost feel the soft kiss of the snowflakes as they fall on your cheeks, nose, and hear the gentle swoosh of the air on that snowy evening - oh my what a lovely poem - and this poem stays with you for ever and for ever and for ever -
