Aye, aye tis’ goodbye…

December 30th, 2008

As I continue my musings with solitude and soliloquy, I silently reflect on the year gone by.

So nearly nearing the end of 2008….So, what exactly was 2008 like ??

For some, there have been major triumphs and acheivements in life…for some, personal tragedies and losses…

We should extend our congratulations where due, and sympathies to all those affected…

2008 has been a cornucopia of various things…the world continues to hurtle relentlessly and hurt in many ways, too…..

The credit crunch and recession !! will say no more, probably we all need another ” Seabiscuit.”

Bomb blasts and terrorism spread a pall of gloom and despair in every soul..I hope and pray this waywardness of some does not become a way of life for us all to suffer.

India signed the nuclear deal and joined the elite group of landing a spacecraft on the Moon..feats which consolidate our footprints on the world map..

From the time when they had to use separate washrooms, travel by sitting at the back end of the buses, from when they had to send their kids to separate schools….times have surely changed !!

He underplayed the black tag !! well, actually he overplayed it in a subtle way !! The arguement surely continues..

From Rosa Parks to Muhammad Ali to so many more unnamed people from centuries who overcame racial prejudices in different parts of the world, today Barack Obama has renewed faith and made history and we are all witness to it…

Kashmir..people came in large numbers to vote…hail democracy !!

Cricket gave us unlimited joy this year. From being the financial superpower in the game to becoming one of the top teams in all forms of cricket, Indian cricket has reached its pinnacle…. From Perth to Chennai to Mohali we are going places…

We saw the doyens of cricket, Ganguly and Kumble retire graciously, From Sachin to Sehwag…from Gambhir to Yuvraj…from Zaheer to Ishant they have all made us jubilant….Dhoni, 2008 surely was yours !! Dravid, I hope 2009 is yours mate !!

Vishwanathan Anand reigned supreme, Saina Nehwal showed immense grit and character. Abhinav Bindra, Kumar and Kumar made the nation proud in Olympics.

Taare Zameen par and young Darsheel were a revelation, Wednesday was hard hitting…the common man’s anger was poignant and palpable..Welcome to Sajjanpur was endearing…transported me back to the era of Basu Chatterji and Hrishikesh Mukherjee..I loved Singh is Kingg however audacious or ghastly it might sound…am a humourmonger you see…

While on one end we witnessed Taj Mahal officially entering the wonders of the world….we saw another Taj burning to embers…

There was so much to celebrate but there is still so much that is a cause for concern….

The cash for question scam…indeed a sad day for democracy…

The dwindling numbers of the Indian Tiger…

The Kandhamal and Bangalore saga….the increasing reigious strife and intolerance…

The trivialisation of sensitivity by media…

The safety of the girl child, India still ranking high among the IMR rates…the divide between the rich and the poor…votebank politics, corruption…and so much more…

====================================================

As for me this year has been a mixed bag…I had my share of highs and lows like most people. I made my first trip to Uncle Sam’s land. I managed to complete some of my exams successfully…..from being a patient doctor I had become a doctor patient from which I have reasonably recovered.

I had taken a brief break from work and now am all set to explore unchartered territories… a career change is on the anvil…

Landing on iLand eight months back, I have lasted so far. But, my romance more or less with iLand was marred by few controversies that I needlessly got embroiled in. My humour and me as a person was certainly misunderstood. In many ways that has slightly put me off the iLand and made the exprience a little unpleasant.

Since past few weeks I have neither been able to read others much nor write a lot. I do have lots of issues that bother me and which I would love to blog about but somehow I have this gnawing worry at the back of my mind if my thoughts and opinions would be misconstrued…..

On the positive, I have been truly blessed with many showering their affection magnanimously on me…what would I be without these friends…

I have decided to take a break from iLand..whether it is permanent or temporary only time will tell…but I do feel I need to stay away from iLand…

Wish you all prosperous and peaceful New year….with each passing day…

And remember….keep smiling….cos smile looks good on each one of us…

PS I watched ” Slumdog Millionaire ” couple of days ago…and Boy was I zapped or whattt…a must !! a story of faith and hope…some stomach churning scenes but great pace…Taj Mahal has never been portrayed so humourously since Bunty aur Babli…The weaving of the game show questions and Jamal Maliks life story seems seamless…The music by A R Rehman doesn’t hamper the pace of the movie…you would know what I mean when you see the song ” Aaj ki Raat” from Don in it…Oh there is so much more I could carry on writing…but honestly …See it to believe it….
