Bandra Worli Sea Link

Every thing is statistic these days.Sensational statistic survives rest is as good as dead.How do you prove yourself : By giving statistics which is difficult to prove by others. Bandra Worli sea link is a monument of indulgence and power.When you f*** you dont count the numbers of sperm you ejaculated .You did it because of urge.Why count the tonnes of cement or Iron that went into it.Or the cost and the man hours.You are a party to the decision to construct the bridge raping the sea,you construct it because you talk of Shanghai,you indulge into it because you form a racket with the builder lobby constucting everywhere along the route to south Mumbai till you choke the traffic and now give a solution in the form of a Bridge on the Sea.

Bridges on sea is unknown except in Ramayana or may be some opulent nation has done it .Are we then demigods sitting in the cities and showing off our vulgar riches with borrowed money.How can a bridge of such dimension and cost be constructed when there are no footpaths for people to walk in suburbs.Ok you say that it joins the most affluent circuit in the most affluent city of Mumbai.Are you sure that Mumbai is affluent.And if you constuct it for a priveleged few why should others be a party to celebration.Should a beggar on the road be impressed with  the charity done by Narayan Murthy.Why should he be ? The Model of Development has failed in this country with single largest human populace.A developing nation has to construct footpaths for people to walk on roads .Remember we walked when we could not afford the bullock cart.We took a bullock cart when we could not afford a tonga ,we took the cycle rickshaw when we could not afford a rickshaw and we took a bus when cannot afford a rickshaw, when we cannot afford a car we take a  taxi.The lowest rung is walking.My first concern is have they made a foot path everywhere .First make a footpath all over the country then boast of bridges and if yu think that these are different issues then why talk of socialism and democracy.This country is free but the freedom is skewed because we are not self-suffiicent.We have dearth of basic feeling and logic.We have given into the poitics of power  and are not ready to get over the stupor of Devlopment .Development which is non - inclusive of the smallest person n the city is no development .

The Engineer who designed it was talking of couples sitting on the bridge and taking marital woves,he was playing to the gallery and counting on your humanity that you will go and sit there with your girl-friend  to add emotive value to that piece of engineering marvel.Why the hell should you do it  when the police will not allow it .Mind you it is a private property built on government land for benefit of the company and the government and not the motorists or the citizen.The governent is in business with people .This has ceased to be a welfare state.Every one is in business with everyone else .Except your mother who also expects you to keep her ad feed her when she is old.

Remember a city is a Mother.And mothers never come free.
Postscript.During the construction of the sea link there was reclamation of part of Mahim Creek.Now this is resulting in water logging at Varsova and Malad during high tide .Water is getting into the houses of natives who stay very near the sea coast.If this continues then the reclaimation will have to be refversed
