here’s a voice from the past. i recall your comments on the debate whjere i argued against chappell (with amit verma, redoubtably a wonderful blogger and writer). u seemed to believe i was all bias (probably becoz of the bong connection, as in sourav ganguly), but that’s like saying ur with amit becoz ur both varmas. both silly arguments. i have written elsewhere very trenchently against ganguly. ask me and i shall post u the piece. anyway to return to the debate. do u still believe chappell has a hold on things. the team is falling apart. KL was a shame. they wanted to lose, it seemed (in the game against australia). where is the motivationa coach ought to instil. all the chopping and shifting has led to a pile of deadwood. sorry, but i stand by what i said about chappell.

The Indian medium pacers bowled with good pace in the home series
against Sri Lanka and New Zeanland. Pathan was bowling consistently
above 130kmph, RP Singh was bowling more than that and Agarkar
    consistently bowled above 140 kmph.

And in the test matches against pakistan, each of them were bowling
atleast 10 kmph below their normal speed in India. What happened in
between these two series? Were they so tired after the Indian series,
that they did not recover even two months after that. Or did they get
complacent and stopped working on their fitness. I would really like to
know what the Indian team members fitness routine is, what they do for
stamina and strength. You could tell that all the Indian players were tired
    in the field.

Dravid and Ganguly now look like skeletons especially after they crossed
thirty. I guess no weight training for them.

Prem, can you find out their fitness routine and if they work keeping fit
    off season.

we need a bowling coach. And we need to
    find really fast bowlers, fast.

  9. lakshman says

we need a bowling coach. And we need to find really fast bowlers, fast.
We should have atleast 1 tearaway to soften up the opposition. Medium
pacers become quite playable after they are on the circuit for 2-3 years.
Zaheer has gone that way and Irfan is going that way. Nehra has
perennial fitness problems. Zaheer, Ashish, Irfan, Ajit, Balaji .. all are
produce good performances once in a while but cant deliver consistently,
especily when needed. They are talented but only so much. And we
keep rotating them. Lets find good bowlers. We are overlooking the
obvious. With the war chest at BCCI’s disposal, its time we set up a
permanent BCCI Bowling Academy to unearth bowlers - fast and even
spin. Otherwise we will only be wasting media time and newsprint.
And batting - we gloat that Irfan is batting well, instead of looking for
good bowlers. How much more do you want to bolster Indian batting?
Its time to give the Saurav treatment to Sachin - he fails at most
    inopportune moment

It will be interesting to plot Dhoni’s average when playing as opener and at #3, #4 position. It is likely to be in excess of 50 with strike rate of 100 plus. I wonder if he doesn’t feel frustrated and deprived of opportunity by having to play at 6-7 position in spite of giving excellent performance on top. Most “humans” are likely to feel frustrated in this situation and I hope this “likely” frustration doesn’t cause Dhoni to lose his excellent positive mental attitude and eventually his batting form.

    Hey Manish,
How about this article by Micheal Holding
    http://content-usa.cricinfo.com/ci/content/current/story/243563.html
sounds interesting!! more the case if you look at the way he compares RPS and akhtar’s actions in super slo-mo at this link.
    http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-735354860630376051&q=michael+holding&pl=true

    My comments on the article:
Fair enough…bowling at match speeds is a good requisite for fast bowlers. But what would the screening procedure be for spinners? There’s no way the angle of spin can be measured to replicate in the lab conditions.

Now this problem is solved to a certain extent….say if a spinner seems to be breaking the 15-degree law only when he bowls the doosra.

But what if a spinner is chucking while bowling a regular off-break and the amount he chucks(degree of bend) is prortional to the amount he spins the ball.

I want to talk about Javagal Sreenath as a commentator.I feel he talks lot of BS.He doesn\’t have any idea what he is talking. His cricketng anal is bad. Looks like he does lot of boot polishing to Dravid/Kumble .I am not a bengalee or ganguly fan, but during 3rd ODI against england I was listening to the conversation between Nazar Hussain and Srinath.Nazar is suggesting that Ganguly needs to be back in the top order due to the recent failures in the top atleast in one day\’s.But this BS srinath is bluntly rejecting without giving any valid analysis.I don\’t care whether he is pro or anti ganguly, but atleast analyze/discuss properly.First of all his commentary is so bad and on the top of that he pulls some one elses legs for which he is not qualified to talk. Some how I feel that he is trying to make india team full of players from Karnataka.That\’s not going to happen. The reason is that I haven\’t seen him praising any player other than Kumble/Dravid.I like Kumble/Dravid,but not thisBS

The good form of no.6 batsmen have saved India many matches in this period. The batting has failed to work as a unit and some individual performances have saved the day. It was entirely individual brilliance. So Chappel’s influence as a coach on the entire team has been nil. His support to youngsters is the only positive I can see.
