Comment on South India through the eyes of a typical northie. by Sathish Shanbhogue K http://blogs.rediff.com/xbhp/2006/12/01/south-india-through-the-eyes-of-a-typical-northie/comment-page-1/#comment-39 Sathish Shanbhogue K #comment-39 Restriction on wearing the lungi inside because "Lungi" is perticularly built for use inside the house only but "Dhoti" or "Mund" (White coloured one) is for public places, functions etc. You cannot were Lungi inside Govt. Office and Schools but you can were Dhoti there. South Indian temples have their own set of cultural and moral code of conducts do you know ito enter inside some temples in Kerala you remove shirt and banian and also restriction to wearing trousers and hats, (yes you can use Dhoti). Not only this to visit "Sabarimala" Temple of Kerala you have to take 40 Days "Vrutham". In this period one cannot take alcohol, Non Veg meals, No Drugs or smoking etc.) and apart form this they have separate dress code also (Generally Black or Blue). During these period people generally prefered to stay outside the hosue (i.e. temples etc).
